  • Except for wen the tempo changes I don't really like that part.

  • ooh I used to love this shit!!! but I'd like to find a little better quality of it, though.

  • @SonicTheJackrabbit

How did you record the MIDI files in DosBox? I have tried to record MIDI files in DosBox as well, but I don't know how.

  • Comment removed

  • Go look up Stockhausen's Klavierstück IX, and then listen from 1:45 to about 1:50 of this video. Notice anything unusual?

  • I feel like im playing transport tycoon....

  • omfg wow

  • progressive dream funk. It exists!

  • man this brings back so many memories!!!! As a kid i used to play this every day passport and canyon!!!!!!

  • nostalgia

  • A funny thing happened on the way to the forums: The other person's video is not only much quieter then yours (or is it your video is louder?) and the other person is one second shorter missing the ending orchestra hit.

    You have the full thing.

  • I remember when this was just about the only digital music I could get my hands on. Those were the days.

  • god!! i miss my opl3 sound card

  • I love this song. Too bad your recording is so bad. :(

  • @spyro303 How is this bad quality? Haha

  • @BoxLineProductions You really can't tell? The volume of the recording is way too high and is peaking, causing huge distortion.

  • @spyro303 I can most certainly tell. I believe it's either one of those you-have-to-have-good-ears sort of thing to detect and/or the person who uploaded this is/was so excited they cannot handle it when someone says their quality sucks..........even if it outright does but however this video DOES have the last note.

There are plenty of videos on this site where one version will suck and the other will be like heaven to your eyes and ears. Makes me wonder why the sucky video are up.

  • LMAO i remember this in my sound blaster 16, but it used to sound better than this o_O

  • if ANYTHING, this music sounds like it is from simcity 200

  • @GreasedMunky Yes!

  • @GreasedMunky FM Synthesizers m8. Makes everything sound SimCity 2000 and Transport Tycoon. :)

  • dat AdLib

  • Its bundled in Windows 3.1 to Windows 2000

  • @lancededcena123 or Windows 95 to Windows 2000

  • Actually there is no way to have media player in Dos Box as it's designed for games only and not all games even work on Dos Box. Sorry.

  • Hm i have a sound blaster 16 too and i don't know what to do with it, maybe i will put it into my minecraft server computer does it still work with newer computers?

  • awe63 version is a lot better

  • Takes me back.

  • Super .. . oohh what a feeling hearing this legendary original OPL music mmmmmmm.. GA-G31M-S2L motherboard should have the ISA slot ! :\

  • @Tomasm21 Just use an old Pentium 3\Athlon system, they usually have an ISA slot somewhere. I have a few here myself.

  • What is OPL?

  • @BluestreakPictures

    FM Operator Type-L

It is the chip used for MIDI music on Sound Blaster/Ad Lib or compatible cards.

  • Preety cool!

  • Softcore porn soundtrack

  • the first 10 seconds sound banjo kazooie like

  • @anriric23 This

  • Can somebody tell me why they don't make music like this anymore? I'm 13 and I hate all this new shit that everyone thinks is good!

  • @BluestreakPictures Because they think you have to move on. You have to find more realistic ways of doing things. Also, they think "popular" music will become popular, but pop at about £1 a pop, is a bit much. My tunes/songs are all royalty free. Find them on my channel's website.

  • @BluestreakPictures You might like the instrumental of the new song "Party" by Beyonce. It has a nostalgic feel to it. Good day.

  • @BluestreakPictures Finally... Someone actually came to their senses. You don't find a lot of 13 year olds that prefer this over LMFAO or some shit like that... Im 13 too...

Sorry if that sounded a little corny... :(

  • @duhskills129 Not corny at all.

  • @duhskills129

Typically brats. Why don't you shut up and face the fact not everyone like the same music at you?

  • @SgtThom Ok Then. Sorry for starting such a controversial subject... I.. I.. I just didn't think my comment would get noticed as much. You're right. I do kinda feel like a brat now... Sorry... :(

  • Reminds me of the 80s for some reason!!

  • Sounds like 16-bit Jazz Music

  • Sounds to me like a lost Simcity 2000 track!

  • OPL at its best. Just bitchin'.

  • Reminds me of Theme Hospital.

  • Comment removed

  • whoa this is awesome! =)

    thumb up no. 83!^^

  • The real title is "Passport Please"

    ®1991

    Passport Designs, Inc.

    Prod by Music Data Company.

    George Stone also sequenced "CANYON.MID".

  • my goodness this is awful! Sounds nothing like a real OPL3 chip.

  • I also have a computer with a Sound blaster in it!

  • Sounds like farting at the beginning XD

  • Sounds like something from Animal crossing after the trumpet solo.

  • Wow reminds me of primary school.. used to listen to this in the library, lol.

  • I remember these days when I was shocked to find hidden midi files as well as the game Hoover where you capture the drone flags in three settings.

  • @Luciferminusone YES!!!! i love that game!!!!!

  • FUCK YES AWFUL FM SYNTHESIS!

  • Fuck yeah I suddenly remembered listening to this when I was a kid

    NOSTALGIA

  • this reminds me of the game F-22 Lightning II with the sound blaster.. i used to play it all the time when i was like 3 or 4 on windows 98. total nostalgia trip :D

  • i remember this on my ibm aptiva... but it came with a soft device called yamaha voyetra or something like that... it hat a much better sound... the instruments sounded almost like real ones... where can i find these tunes? "cool", "fusion" etc...??? HELP :)

  • @FieserBauer Funny, a few weeks ago I picked up an IBM Aptiva at the thrift store by house to restore and turn into a DOS gaming machine. It did actually have a Yamaha instrument set, and Windows 98 installed. Did you just donate that computer? Because I *may* be able to get you the instrument set, I haven't wiped the hard disk yet, I just replaced it and the old one still has all of the files on it... Also most of the Windows midi's were included in c:\windows\media

  • @retronuggetdev

Hi, this would be awsome!!! i send you a pm ;)

  • OH MY GOD! Thank you for posting this. I used to play around all the time with the midi synthesis as a kid on my Windows 95, or was it 98? Nevertheless, I totally remember this. Nostalgic!

  • Lol, I remeber stumbling upon this song back in the day when looking for where I put my Duke Nukem Midis

  • Any other 90s fanatics here reminded of Transport Tycoon by this song?

  • how i will play that on DosBOx?

  • 1:17 (cries) I miss Windows 98 so much!

  • @shadow524951 Who doesn't, I still have a virtual machine (and in fact a real one) with 98, that was one of the best ;)

  • theres a lot of different sound versions

  • This sooo has that Sim City 2000 vibe!

  • It remind me SimCity 2000... Ahh good times

  • oohh my god, i was looking for this song lol

  • Hey, it's the song I was looking for! The one that reminds me of level 7 in Nitemare-3D. Except this version sounds way different. Damn discrepancies in MIDI interpreters.

  • in windows chicago build 189 you can hear an 8-bit sounding version of this

  • hahaha we had trhis soundcard on my first comp, no one knew what i was talking about when I mentioned the "old passport"

  • this sounds like the old DooM music...

  • @Wesley683

Eh, I wouldn't really say so. Doom used a completely different OPL instrument set from the common set that alot of DOS games use such as Descent and Hocus Pocus, as well as Creative Lab's sound drivers.

  • @SonicTheJackrabbit The first couple of beats sound like it

  • lol XD i like doom >:-j

  • where i can download this song?

  • @pingy86119pivoter Just search for "passport.mid" on Google, you'll find tons of websites where you can download the file

  • so... 90s

  • straight from my childhood :D

  • now this is the hot jam

  • I had this song on my Windows 95. I had some good times on that version.

    Thanks for uploading!

  • ive played mad robots with this melody

  • Pretty sick song

  • woooooooooooooow i remember this song.... i loved it

  • Ah old kinda Windows 95... Bill Gates was look's young, doom and doom 2 was on the top of the games. Ah nostalgia...

  • This is the exact same synthesizer I use on my Windows 98 PC that I used to have back in the day... Hang on, I think I'm having a nostalgia... :o

  • Am i the only person that thought this sounded like a porn music track?

  • @SalasSnake

    What?

.............gotta get ur head outta duh gutta brah

  • @SonicTheJackrabbit That's modern U Tube 4 U. :)

  • @SonicTheJackrabbit I love when the two top comments complement each other.

  • @SalasSnake If the porno took place in a cave maybe?

  • @SalasSnake Yes.

  • @SalasSnake

I thought the same thing. Sounds just like porn music. lol

  • @SalasSnake LOLOLOL!!

  • @SalasSnake haha, and at 2:00 he's like climaxing xD the song fits PERFECTLY. btw 69th comment GET!

  • @SalasSnake to me, everything sounds like porn music

  • @SalasSnake

    Errm, no.

  • @SalasSnake Ah man... you made my day with this comment... now i see Peter North everywhere.

  • I actually really liked this when I had my old PC.....

  • Snazzy.

  • i miss my childhood :[

  • I have an old '98 Packard Bell in the loft, it was my first pc, AMD K-6, 44MB RAM, but some Sound Blaster "compatible" sound thing.... this brings back memories!

  • This is a classic song!

  • the version i have on my windows 98 computer sounds a little different from this

  • @crisss994

Must be because your 98 PC has a different MIDI synthesiser. Here, the original OPL3 FM synthesiser is used. Classic.

  • omg i remember this on my windows 98 computer :) brings back so many memories lol i still have the computer in my room i should see if its still got the original file on it

  • Reminds me of Wacky Worlds.

  • I hear this since my childhood on Windows 3.11. The file is exactly the same from the 3.x versions to 98SE. On Windows 2000, the Passport.mid and Canyon.mid get the main channels repeated to produce a kind of echo. I prefeer to hear all my midi files on the OPL2/OPL3 Synth, on the Voyetra Midi Orchestrator.. is nostalgic!

  • @horuscurcino As you might see in a video of it on my channel, the Windows 2000 versions double the melody on piano, which sometimes is isolated depending on playback conditions.

  • my first computer had windows 95 on it...and I distinctly remember playing this song 24/7. Thanks for the upload dude, this brings back so many memories of my childhood and my first computer!

  • This one's also on 2000, but not on XP or Me.

  • My favorite tune from Windows 3.1-XP.

  • @Karlslasher80 Dang, that's stupid, using all that bad language over a great song

  • Don't listen to him, he's just a stupid fail troll. I've dealt with him a few times on some of SonicKAI's videos.

  • Out of curiosity, does anyone know what synth table Apple used on the aluminum unibody (Late 2008) MacBook?

  • @megamanfan3

I'm pretty sure all macs use the built in QuickTime GM DLS file, which is, I think, based on Roland sounds.

  • This is the way I WISH I heard it back then...

It's a shame, I had only PC Speaker back then, no SoundBlaster, no Adlib, no Roland or Gravis Ultrasound :-(

My current soundcard is ok, but does nto support either FM synthesis or soundfonts....

  • Install it in Virtual PC or Sun Virtualbox.

  • Yeah, but in Virtual PC, the SB16 emulation sucks ass....

As for Sun Virtualbox.... I don't know.

  • DOSBox was used here and provides the most faithful emulation of the original hardware.

  • @MiracleKD18 Parallels Desktop 5.x emulates an AC '97-compatable sound card.

  • I have Realtek AC 97.... my problem with it is that it doesen't have it' own FM synthesiser or MIDI device.... and I have to stick with the shitty MS Wavetable.....

  • Who makes it? If its a Creative SoundBlaster card then it should work as long as its in an older computer.

  • You can install a SoundFont compatible synthesizer such as SynthFont and a MIDI loopback device such as LoopBe1 or MIDI Yoke. You can make good use of MIDI loopback device if you find some other sound system emulators which have a realtime input, but no driver.

  • nice!

  • I want to know what onestop.mid sounds like... but it's on ME-Vista

  • yeah, i'm curious as to what onestop, town and flourish sound like on the classic yamaha chip too :-)

  • SWEET! its been a long time since i've heard this in OPL3, rather than MPU-401 :-) 5*****

  • how can I play my midi files with that sound??? I tried installing win95 on vmware and it's impossible to install a sound device!!! is there a player with this kind of midi function???

  • Do you want me to do some MIDIs in OPL3 for you? I do take requests. :)

  • Thanks but, I would have a LOT, and I already own them, it's old games that still work, but the synth has changed to a more 'recent' one, but not as good... ;) can you PM me onn how you do that?

  • Are you using DOSBox? You can change the music setting to Sound Blaster or Ad Lib in the game's SETUP.EXE.

  • @nightsaturn install vmware addditions u should have audio after that

  • Comment removed

  • i first heard the midi like this on sound blaster 16 FM Midi. its amazing the sound of the drums! :)

  • Hey, its also bundled on the Windows 2000.

  • How did you get the echo on the FM?

I really wish Microsoft used better FM instruments for the OPL3 chips. The OPL3 was capable of so much more.

As for the song, it's okay I guess, as far as the Microsoft midi's went.

  • My sound card came with reverb, so I enabled that while recording the music from DOSBox.

  • @Eep386

I definitely agree with that statement. I've been looking for this Voyetra FM driver for Windows 3.1 that's supposed to sound better than Creative's own timbres, do you know where I could find a download?

  • @SonicTheJackrabbit I don't remember offhand, sorry. ESS chips seem to have custom FM MIDI instrument definitions too, which sound very interesting, though the ESSFM is less than 100% accurate to the real OPL3 if memory serves.

  • @Eep386

Yeah I heard ESSFM is pretty much a inaccurate clone of the OPL chip, and it might just use the same timbre set in Windows, so I don't think that's really worth getting.

As an upside though, I hear a non-pnp AWE32 actually has a legit OPL3 chip, and can actually use reverb and chorus, since it's transmitting data to the EMU8K chip. Combining that with drums from a softsynth or MIDI module would sound friggin epic. :D

  • This is the best of the "hidden" songs, composition wise. It's basically cheesy lounge jazz, but when played with a good soundfont, it's pretty awesome...

  • WHAHHAHAHA ! This stuff is cool! My first windows PC!

  • Reminds me of Sim City 2000!

  • Sim City rocks. This music reminds me about Theme Hospital.

  • WOW holy shit I remember this FUCK!!

  • brings back memories, even though i heard the song on wavetable synth first, before i heard it on OPL3 MIDI. ^.^

i tended to explore my computer's C drive to see what's inside, and that's how i found this song, and (can you beleave it?) PROGRAM MANAGER hidden inside the Windows 98 operating system, and it still worked! (kinda)

  • Program manager is in XP also :-)

  • I know. But in XP, Program Manager is practically useless. When you click on the icon, nothing happens, where in 95 and 98, it works. O.o

  • hmm really? something's not right there

  • seems like it

  • hey guess what! i've just recorded canyon, onestop, passport and town playing on my Sony Ericsson K320i phone - uploading soon :-)

  • @KlonoaKawaiiDesu XP SP2 and beyond replace Program Manager with a dummy icon library.

  • yea, this is the real sounding one right here! I love this song still until this day!

  • This reminds me that I have to buy some speakers for my Windows 95's. (Their broken.)

  • You know, I always wondered: What the hell was the point of this song? I mean, did Windows actually ever play it or was it just a sweet gem hidden away in the depths of Windows 95? ;-)

  • It was part of the midi files which were bundled as an optional feature during installation of Windows. They were copied into the C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA directory. It was mostly for entertainment and to test out the midi capabilities of your sound card.

  • @ShawnBronald Midi sound card test.

  • @ShawnBronald It was included with the Windows 3.0 Multimedia Extensions as that was the first addon pack to officially support Multimedia (like sound, video, etc; stuff we take for granted). It inclueded em just so people had some MIDIs to play in Windows.

  • i remember this fondly! i love it thankyou for uploading this!

  • No problem. :)
