  • @gdub520 There were some artistes who sang live, not many though. The Musician's Union insisted that the bands re-recorded the single for the show - in 5 hours! Of course this rearely happened and there are tales of master tapes being swapped in the London pubs.

I've been in the audience at ToTP and can remember Paul Young singing 'Wherever I lay my hat" and I'm sure he sang live.

  • That little grunt/riff Michael did at 2:01...ahhh *melts* :)

  • One of my favorite Obscure Jackson tunes. They got my fingers snappin!! And one and snap and two and snap...Let me show you, come on, let me show you the way to go.. We can do it , we can do it, we can do it now!.. Love to see the brothers all on stage together puttin it down! Funky with a nice melody. Kinda jazzy. A break from the Doo-Woo they had been doin. You see how Micheal just takes control of the stage like he ownes it!! Youll never seen a guy more at home on stage. So cool!!

  • cute! 1:53 *.*

  • People like to diss mj's brothers like they had no impact. But the time with them was when he looked the most happy.

  • @bscottdp YESSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • here you can just see that Michael was outgrowing a group even though the group was AMAZING! He just shone so much brighter than his brothers!

I just can't help but love MJ, but unfortunately, the more I listen to his lyrics, the less I think of him as a give from God...not the Christian God anyway...oh wow. I know how that sounds...but seriously, I don't believe he did anything with all those children, but I do believe he at somepoint was in allegence with dark forces. What a real shame!

  • @hihosilverlining2 The sadness is that he lost his joy and became addicted to drugs. The drugs were the dark forces. It's a shame that that such a bright light got snuffed out. His light will forever be missed, but I'm so thankful I got to experience it in my lifetime!

  • @MJLOVEnow Hmm...I wonder if from what "bscottdp" said ( just above your comment) if it was his leaving his brothers that cause the loss you theorise.....because the first introduction to the prescribed drugs came after the Pepsi accident, which was when he basically was wrapping things up with his brothers. I'm wondering.

  • @andrewfrancis74 That could be true. I'm reading Jermaine's book (which is great, by the way) and he talks about how they were raised to stay tight as a family and not allow others in or break off from it because that would weaken them to do so. Michael's career got stronger, but his personal life seemed to suffer. Clearly there was a lot of loneliness. I don't ever think of him as a true addict because he needed the drugs to live not to get high, but if he'd stayed closer to his family..

  • I can't tell ya how many spins this record got on the old record player

  • @Hatterman88 I was thinking the same thing before I read your comment Michael was leaving his brothers behind right about then and it was clear he was carrying them(no disrespect to them) and time to branch out and shine to full potential. I was really young during this era but I read that you were into rock then...man the 70's was such a great musical era (rock or whatever) I wish I could go back in a time machine just to experience it performances, wardrobe and all.

  • THOSE STEPS...AWESOME

  • Brilliant as always

  • It's live, just the violins aren't. LOL!

  • The vocals in this performance are 100% LIVE. I guarantee it - it's not as slick as the (brilliant) Gamble & Huff-produced single but there's a raw energy to MJ's voice that's unmistakeable and certainly not on the record.

The Jacksons are often forgotten in the MJ hysteria and they shouldn't be. For any doubters, check out Destiny or Triumph - both full of great tracks.

  • Great!

  • DAMMM JACKIE FINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wow...I miss him

  • one of the more underrated tracks they recorded

  • @sambaprince Agree.

  • is this live?

  • @yankees2000ms its pretty close to the way the record sounded far as i can tell, but i do think they are singing live on this performance

  • @gdub520 yeah i agree

  • @gdub520 they never let anyone sing live on this show,i don't know why,but they didn't

  • I always dream avery time I hear Michael's voice...an angel...

  • love this song...MJ <3

  • Pourin. Out. Soul.

Amazing song, with amazing lyrics and music, needs an amazin guy to sing it. And it got one.

  • I saw Thriller Live today, and this song was on, It was one of my favs from the show!! I can't get enough of this song... <3

  • gamble and huff and the jacksons are a great combination

  • Love it - thank you :)

  • That's The Sound of Philadelphia your hearing.

  • let me show you....

  • I wonder if they ever toured with the Sylvers? Would have been a good collaboration.

  • This makes me want to cry xxxxxx

  • Fantastic song, loved it the first time I heard it on the radio in 77 and it sounds as good today, great memories!

  • love his voice :)

  • This is a classic song

  • You gotta love when Mike starts breaking it down, and goes on his own tune within the song, he's so at ease with every note and so creative that every real live performance is unique. He breathes soul music. That's why I love his soul and funk music days, even though he became legend with pop & rock. I miss Old School Music.

MJ RIP. U were and always will be the Greatest of All time. And all the other greats won't object I'm sure.

  • @kensheebattousai

    i totally agree

  • I luv this song this is true r & b. The Jacksons rock.

  • R.I.P Michael. You were gone too soon

  • This was a #1 hit in the UK! Well-deserved, and should have performed similarly in the US. My single favorite Jacksons OR Jackson 5 song!!!

  • This has got to be one of my MOST favored tunes of the Jacksons. Thanks for posting this!!!!!

  • cool

  • My mother remembers this song from when she was a teenager, but I know it more than she does... And I love The Jacksons more. ^__^

    Love you MJ. <33

  • Can see quite clearly in this clip that Michael had outgrown his brothers. Was time to fly the nest and so it became. Grew up on rock music in this era but have always appreciated good music no matter what the genre. Michael was an extremely gifted artist, one of the best ever, who was hounded by the press to satisfy the curiosity of joe public. Let us remember him for the joy he gave us through his music. By the way this track is a classic allowing Michael to do what he does best. RIP Michael!

  • @Hatterman88 Well said!! Totally agree with you! :)

  • @Hatterman88 Yes I totally agree With you! He was very gifted and sooo misunderstood by the public and the media. I Loooooove that song! No one makes real music like that any more. I was 8yrs old when this was out and totally in love with Micheal. Still am even in death. He was is is the best ever. RIP Micheal, Gone Too Soon!

  • He looks like he always knew exactly how to sing and where to go and what his audience want on the stage. There is something about him on the stage that you can't take your eyes off him. Just amazing.

  • LOL they show the sound guy turning off the DAT at the end

  • PLEASURE TO SEE MJ XXXXXXXXXXX

  • OMGOMGOMG MICHAEL'S OUTIFT IS THE BEST!!! The start of his military-like style. :) Oh, and he also reminds me of a nutcracker...BUT A FUNKY ONE! ^_^

  • @dearestkela ps- I'm a doofus. I just noticed that all the Jackson have the same jacket but in different colors on.... YESSSSSSSSSS. <3 This song is absolutely magical.

  • he was such a good looking guy with an angel voice!! yes he had an aura above his head!!!

  • Marlon!!

  • Cool, you can hear his later voice emerging, and yet every once in a while a high child like note pops out too. This was the cross over between a child's and a man's voice.

  • I love watching them dance. Alaways in time and on the same page. Never once did I see a mess up/

  • his vocals here are a 10 such a hit love this era you can see him growing to the off the wall era

  • i dont know about the yummy part but he was born to entertain. notice how everysong his brothers moves look choreographed and Mikes just come natural.

  • I just love when Mike says "break it down" or goes on his unique freestyling, singing his soul out like no other ever.

  • Love is outfie!!^_^

  • i really like this song for some reason but i am a 90's baby... is that worrying ?

  • nope. lol.

  • @shaneele Not to me.I'm a 60's baby.What's bad is bad!

  • I never saw this one and thought i saw all tha jackson's performances !!

  • @TCZGSPOT Well you got to be a humdinger of a fan.I'm the biggest fan I know and I know I ain't seen all the Jackson's performances.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. great melodies

  • What a showman MJ is, just stands out !!

  • i love mj..but the outfits...are so cute...they look kinda like the beatles outfit..with a little captain crunch dude..

  • Fab !! :D

    Love you Michael .R.I.P. !! ♥

    xx

  • o hes gorgeous!!!! i love me some Michael!

  • i love this song...thank God for you tube.

  • Anybody remember when they performed this on Wonderama, hosted by Bob MacCallister back in the day? That was the first time I ever saw Michael in the red bandleader jacket that became sort of his trademark.

  • This track has been sampled by a few rappers. Can't name them all....

  • i cant remember watching this on tv but i bought the record love Michael and jackson 5

    michael and jackson 5

  • Amazing i love me som J5 xxx

  • they said Marlon couldn't dance but he was one of the best dancers out of them, and he's fine.

  • I LOVE MICHAEL JACKSON!!

  • i love it

  • This is my all-time FAVORITE Jackson song.

  • Agreed, grlblu73,its too classy and cool for the masses,so not as popular, shame the production on the single is superb,I think it was Quincy Jones.

  • Gamble and Huff. fav Mike song EVER!

  • @2HonestIam Correction: This was Huff & Gamble production. Quincy first collaboration with Michael was in the Wiz. He also was still a member of the JACKSON 5...and might I just add...this is considered to me, if not the first... the second best track he ever recorded! PEACE

  • @basquait1 Second best after "Never Can Say Goodbye?"

  • @andrewfrancis74 You are on point! Peace with 2.

  • @2HonestIam It was a Huff & Gamble production. peace

  • Smooth beat and killer song. I love the 70s Michael--full of soul and energy.

  • Michael I Love you!

  • This is in my top 10 on my Jackson's playlist on my I Pod. Mike will never be duplicated!!

  • I love this tune.

MJ has an incredible aura, as though he knew where he was going. He was/is truly a gift from God.

I miss you, MJ, and love you more.

  • too whitish? what what ? ..p

  • i meant to reply to 912jumper

  • @912jumper "White people ish"???? WHAT THE HELL?As a "BLACKish" man, that's one of the dumbest things i've heardlol.Michael's Dance(much like many things involving him" transcended race..It wasn't Black..It wasn't white..It was Mike!!!!! Also..I think you need to research some of the great Black Dance/singing entertaners in Histroy...Because Michael patterned a lot of his style from them(Jackie Wilison, etc) , not "white ish" performers...and yet..He learned something form them too,,Astaire..Etc.

  • 910jumper i don't like that n-word, really shows your intelegence, where did u get your education? in a cracker-jack box?

  • @912jumper

    You are really stupid....

    THE END!!!

  • to my wife im gonna take you where you want to go!!!!!! love your husband glenn ps i've been a bad boy

  • Michael was so handsome before all that plastic surgery. It is so sad that he felt he had to do that to be accepted by non-black people. He was born a beautiful child that grew into a beautiful man before all that surgery.

  • @912jumper excuse me i know its been awhile since you wrote your comment but i doubt that michael had plastic surgery to be accepted by white audience.. im sorry but its just pure stupidity to say that

  • @912jumper Yes, I agree. He was born beautiful, shame that he did not realize it...he was such a tortured soul

  • さいこう。

  • Beautiful song. What a classic band.

  • every body knew the jacksons sung the song, but alot of people DINT KNOW gambleand huff did the song this is a standout song even though it sounds like a cheap 4 track demo though sounds like it didnt take much time to mix or finish this track, but THE WAY they did it was excellent, thats the jacksons for you thats whay they are true musicans-say uzipolo-king of decatur

  • mike was a handsome cat before he started messing with his face and he had such a great voice and awesome stage presence

  • written by Gamble & Huff. MJ luved this song that was on the 1st non-Motown album. Shortly after this, MJ changed his afro to a curl to stand out. Of course, his bro's followed his changes. This was a great song. Luv it and I miss MJ!

  • how do you know michael loved this song?

  • MJ stated all of this in the ONLY book wriiten by MJ himself....MOONWALK. If u havent read it, pls do. its really good. MJ wrote in at the end of 88-89 so it was b4 all of the "drama" he suffered

  • Reply to "TheWritersProject". Hey, "Moonwalk" wasn't the only book MJ wrote. He also wrote "Dancing the Dream" 1992 (reprinted 2009). Much better than "Moonwalk" actually.

  • Dancing The Dream was written by MJ, but it was a book of POEMS, Moonwalk was an actualy biography of himself.

  • I know. In some ways a book of poems tells more about the real 'deep down inside' MJ than the heavily-edited autobiography does. Anyway, just my opinion. :)

  • another good performance!

  • ahhh...teenage Michael Jackson....so yummy

  • yeah i noooo!!!!

  • oh the brothers...hum...

  • M.J sounds just as good as being in the studio.Great voice as always!!!

  • Beautiful!!!

  • perhaps the beginning of the affection for military jackets?!

  • Dang...Michael sounds good live .And don't get me started on how fine he was...wow..his smile, that fro',his eyes, that cute little body.,.....and that voice and dancing....OMG!! Why oh,why could he not have been mine. I tell you this.....he would have known how loved he was.I would have made sure of that.

  • This is one of my favorite earlier J5 songs with Michael's lead. I LOVE this song! It was right after Jermaine decided to stay with Motown and Berry Gordy. Michael said he missed him dearly being on his left side. There was a void there for him for a long time..Michael "felt" everything because he was so very sensitive to his surroundings and people.

  • Im up after 2am thinkin of MJ. I miss u and pray u are at peace

  • MJ is dead. There is no more peace than that. I miss him too.

  • I saw him in the thriller era live don't remember him in 77 very cute..wasn't listening until 79 when I was turning 9..off the wall was the first album I listened to

  • As always, you have the coolest post!

  • One of my favorite Jacksons songs. I am so thankful that I grew up in that era,so many fond memories.

  • Damn god.

Why didnt i lived back then?

  • I love Michael Jackson. I am leaving work early to see This Is It on Oct. 28th. I will be the one in the front row, cheering and crying at the same time if you happen to see me.

  • Me too!!

  • I agree with you! Im going the 27th at 9pm in la habra ca. I cant believe his gone and why God would allow it...

  • o how I wish I were alive dese times

  • This is great!!!This is REAL Mike!!! Love it...This is him at his sexiest ...Old nose afro and all ...Pure natural sexiness and beauty...Michael you did not have to change your looks to be beautiful you already were and Im just saddened that you did not get a chance to realize that before you passed away but please know that you are loved and although you may have felt diffrently the black community loved you and will contuinue to love you for all eternity

  • no he was at his best between 1987-1991 his face was prefect in the Bad era

  • LOL! He started looking wierd at that time. He looked is best up until the Thriller era. He was still sort of cute during the bad era, his color was changing, 87, 88 after tha you could forget it.

  • fhuck that michael has always and will alwasy look friggn adorably sexy. shut your fhukn face cause your probally the weirdest looking person on here...its usually your kind who talk about the talented beautiful ones. fhuck off

  • GET IT ON! GET IT ON!

  • Well aside from the money and fame he had allegations that weren't true, people judged him, and he had vitiligo. He couldn't just walk on the streets or anywhere without security so yea that's a tough life.

  • Everytime Mike open his mouth and start dancing... the sun is out! He was blessed by God and gave us ALL he had.

  • Its a cliche...But it's also a very true statment..Money DOES not buy you happiness...ANd I've never heard Michael jackson or anyone ever say that Michael had a HARD life....It was said(and i believe) That Michael had a very SAD and LONELY life at times....Sure..he had Millions...But you can''t buy happiness...He had MILLIONS prob BILLIONS of fans...But That doesnt make US friends and people we can trust....And thos Millions of Orphans you speak of...

  • Michael spent MILLIONS of his own money on them(google his work as a humantarian please)....So to say that this was a man that went around feeling sorry for himself or not giving a damn about others, i think you are sadly mistaken...Do a little research on the money himself(put down the tabloid magazines) and try to understand what it is that you're talkin about before you start throwing out random untrue comments and name calling....God Bless

  • THE UK CROWD WAS SO LAME THEN.

  • Nice observation staras00,Most people believe M.J. had a good to great voice & yet I STILL believe that alot of people don't understand the gift that was his VOICE..You can go thru and find someone somwhere that sound simliar to most people Artist after artist thru history with the exception of Michael Jackson.NOONE sounds like him.I keep hoping this lost feeling will go away but I believe the world will miss him 4ever especially as times goes by and the world realizes the loss as time goes by.

  • Truuuuuuuueeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He was always so talented. At such a young age he sang with such passion and range! I will miss him, but his great music will always live on.

  • My Lord! I haven't heard this song in years! I played this song so much the 45 record that it began to warp. Some of you old folks out there know what I mean! Not only did it warp, but it had a lot of scratches on it from me jumping and dance to it! Gosh darnit! I miss those days! I'll never stop loving Michael Jackson and The Jacksons.

  • I did exactly the same as you! I played this 45 more than one thousand times (yes - I counted!) during the Summer Holidays of '77! I now own the very first UK pressing framed as a Silver Disc with 'plaque' !

  • LOL!!! Yeah them ol' 45's...that was the fun of vinyl..u knew the point the needle would get stuck from the scratches..so u'd push it along a little.

My first MJ was '79 'Off the Wall' on vinyl...thankfully still in good state and I DID play that to death!!

  • Where ever you find a hip place, happy children, love and charity or cool dancing, Michael Jackson will be there.

  • This is my new oldie but goodie jam, i listen to it every nite b4 i go to bed lol..rip M.J.

  • my new oldie but goodie too!!

  • Got this on original vinyl, fantastic, what a song. Rest in peace Michael.

  • he will never die amen 2 that he lives throw us thank god 4 him ther is no other

  • I absolutely adore this song...I mustve played it like 10 times in a row earlier

  • U can tell M.J. was slowly starting to discover his own style of performing which is the M.J. we all grew to love through his solo projects..RIP M.J.

  • This was a hit...

  • Used to love this song

  • MJ fan for the longest time...never liked this song until recently. It grows on you..has that contemporary R&B feel. Miss MJ more and more everyday

  • The man is grooving so hard...His sound is so unique...That's called GRACE

  • They had the regal razzle clothes on here & this song came out n 1976. luv jax5 & mj.

  • OMG! I miss Micheal SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!! =( words cant explain how much i do! Wen he passed, i felt as if one of my own family members had passed.... I just really really really miss him! But this song makes SOOOOOOOOOO happy! this is my fav song by the Jackson 5 other than shake your body down to the ground and I wanna be where you are! I love Micheal! I just really wished he had realized how uncontrolablly handsome he was! Nothin was wrong wit him! Anywho, I REALLY MISS U MJ! R.I.P.

  • the first note sounds like the last after all that moving....or grooving which ever one you like!

  • Yes Michael was one of a kind! I wish these current pop stars could learn from him...He could ALWAYS sing live and STILL sound exactly like the recording...says a whole lot about his talent!

    RIP

  • His voice in this live performance is just exactly how his voice sounds on recording...MAGIC!!!...Nobody can beat him...We, your fans. will follow you friend in HEAVEN.. You have shown us the way to go and we, your fans can do it..MIss you...
