I'm not Christian, but I doubt the Christian God would hurt innocent people just to show Focus on the Family the error of its ways.

That said, I have seen so many examples where storms, earthquakes, wildfires were blamed on various scapegoated groups -- gays, Jews, voters who supported X and didn't support Y -- well, okay, if God's sending messages that way... his message here is loud and clear: "NO."

McCain must be so relieved Bush isn't going to speak. They already had him scheduled as early as possible, so as not to ruin everything. Plus, I wonder if James Dobson and his friends are going to declare that the hurricane is God's judgment against the GOP.

Like everything in the last 8 years the republicans have touched have turned to crap. They couldn't even get a prayer right! Or is it that God does what he historically has done and he is punishing those who supported this prayer. But sad to say like in all biblical punishments the innocent are hurt too.

Maybe God is demonstrating that Global Warming is real after all the stuff the republicans have said to deny it even exists.

Thank you for not attacking Christians in general for this. I have a deep respect for you because of this. The morons over at focus on the family do not represent Christians collectively and to pray for such a disrespectful act only reinforces the idea that alot of those guys are NOT Christians and cant even begin to understand what they are doing. It almost seems fitting that the rnc will be getting the rain instead. Perhaps this will teach them that the power of God is not to trifled with.

There are so many kinds of Christians. One of the things that aggravates me about the Republican party in recent years is that it's been courting the extreme fundamentalists who regard moderate Christians with disdain, and who reduce Christianity (as this James Dobson does) to a petty caricature of itself. Where does that leave good Methodists like my Dad? To paraphrase Obama: Christians, you are BETTER than this. I know you are. (I'm half Jew, not that it matters.)

The bad thing is, not even the Christians can define what it means to be a Christian and definitions are suppose to be definitive.
