  • the final is freaking awesome.

  • great song - I could do without all the shrill twiddling at the finish, but apart from that, lovely electric guitar by Satch

  • best song from his best album. fuckin tasty mixolydian jam right here

  • "but master YODA...I've learned so much".........."MY OWN COUNCIL will I keep.......on who is to be trained!"

  • the effects help a lot.

  • Insane songwriting. How he wrings this much out of a very basic set of chords continues to mystify me. Having Stu on the key rhythm portion doesn't hurt, but still.

  • what pedal he use with that song i want 1

  • @nickeldoeinn he's using a whammy pedal

  • @SuperInfomonkey humph ... got it

  • IN JOE WE TRUST

  • its like he 's under ecstasy without being actually high :O

  • 2:34 WHAT THE FUCK?!

  • @RJMazz My sentiments exactly... couldn't have put it better myself...

  • CHECK THIS youtube.com/watch?v=WRGOkVfEAJA

  • Best live musician PERIOD!

  • in all truth, Joe has no peers!

  • With Joe's raspberry jam, he could really make Tori Amos's raspberry swirl -

  • can anyone cover it? i bet your ass off

  • Every time i listen to Satriani i remember how much he kicks ass! The concert in San Francisco is really great. Stu and the drummer kick ass too!

  • A lot of this song sounds like the ending solo to the live version of Always With Me Always with you :-D

  • What I love most about Joe satriani, he sounds exactly the same live as he does in the studio, TRUE TALENT RIGHT THERE!

  • @iRiselyTech He does not sound exactaly the same live, He sounds better....If you want my point proven all I can say is borg sex and made of tears.

  • Dan Simmons references FTW.

  • STU!!!

  • Joe made toast out of justin bieber with that jam!

  • n second floor bathroom (not master)

  • The man is AMAZING!!! OMG!!! ;)

  • yeahhhhhhh

  • 13 people obviously got slapped in the face by Satriani's whammy bar and Stu's right hand.

  • joe sos el mejor me encanta este tema que vai que petrucci vos sos the god of guitar

  • NO I DON'T HE GETS HIGH DEFINITETLY NOT IT WOULD IT MESSED UP HIS PERFORMANCE JUTS BECAUSE HE USES SHADES DOESN'T MEAN HE DOES DRUGS MOST PERFORMERS USE THEM BECAUSE THEY GET BOTHER BY ALL THE LIGHTS ON STAGE I'M A MUSICIAN AND I USE 'EM ON STAGE TOO BECAUSE OF THE BRIGHTS LIGHTS ROCKSTARS GAVE SHADES ON STAGE A BAD REPUTATION JAJAJA

  • another satisfied Digitech Whammy customer.

    lol

and damn does he use it well.

  • I'm sitting here drinking Dos Equis, hittin' a joint, enjoying me some of Joe's guitar work and jammin' to Stu's bass line. Can life get any better?

  • xD its funny wen he swings his head at 1:22

  • this is my fav by him right now

  • The chords and inversions from 1:05-1:36 are absolutely amazing. So fluid and musical. I absolutely love this performance.

  • does anyone else thinks maybe he gets high sometimes before he plays,

  • @levijones79 No, he doesn't get high before he plays, you do. Drugs and the level of musicianship you hear with artists like Joe do not mix on the performance side. On the listening side, that's up to you.

  • How does he make the first squeal in the intro after the delay effect is turned off...? Do you make that with the floyd rose, a whammy, i'm learning this and I have no idea how he makes that squeal.

  • .......I'm sorry Joe looks like Voldemort.... they both are wizards... Joe's just a wizard at guitar.

  • I play guitar for 8 years and this part at 1:40 seems impossible to play... this guy has a true virtuoso technique!

  • 13 people are allergic to raspberries.

  • Wow, he sounds almost as good if not better than on cd.

  • @PCguy102 Yeah, his live perfomrances almost always sound way better than the albums. I think its because he does a little improv in the song. The improv at the end of this song in particular is definitely a crowd pleaser.

  • 4:57 : this bass line and the main guitar riff goes so well together... :)

  • Is there a name for that really cool wammy riff he does at the end?

  • I wonder if one day joe will come to Brazil...

  • Favorite part starts at 2:55 :)

  • Last Saturday I was sailplaning, it was fantastic, thins song suits the mood! :D

  • AAAAAAAAHHHH I think it's time for a little Joe Satriani for EVERYBODY!!!! =D LOL

  • He makes it look so effortless...

  • ...and this song for me..hehehe

  • I think this guy is The Bollocks.

  • The best Satriani's song ever! I love it so much for years. As to the end of that song...if God himself has a guitar, he wouldn't play it as epic as Joe did there.

  • wammy pedal much?xD

  • I was just reading Dan Simmons' SF novel Endymion, and he mentions the 'raspberry jam delta-v' effect. It's when humans travel really fast in space without protection, and they turn into jam, lol.

  • man i love that drummer

  • @OxenOrb I always think that! haha. I love that part. :)

  • this guy can't get any better, it'd be a crime! Satch rules!!

  • @sebastein100

Any better at playing guitar... that's what I meant (how pathetic is replying to my own comment, I know I'm not gay!)

  • The most joyful song i have ever heard, love how much he's having with it

  • seen joe in concert at the historic state theater in minneapolis on my birthday was the best gift i ever got thanks

  • Satch + Stu together = soul melting!

  • @MrNormalton What did you just said and what do you mean with that? wonder where you are from??

  • Comment removed

  • probably true, satch loves to incorporate sci-fi themes into his music. this right here is one of my all time favorites (as for his faster, more energizing pieces). just like speed of light - the very definition of moving sound :)

  • best song eveeeeeeeeeer!

  • I love this song.I might be mistaken , but it might refer to the change in velocity on reaching the speed of light would be enough to liquefy us to a raspberry jam like substance if we were in a spacecraft .Read that in a sci- fi novel once dunno if has any factual basis.

  • wow!! satch is on fire!!

  • I always wonder why does he play with different bassists? I think i know this guy from earlier but on the other live show from 2006 he was playing with this older long haired bassist. Also i remember a black guy playing with him sometime. They all play well though.

  • he just has a touring band that sometimes changes, the bassist in this video is stu hamm, one of the best in the world, the other bassist you're talking about from 06 is dave LaRue, also one of the best in the world, dont remember a black guy playing with satch tho?

  • @logeybear5150 The black guy is Nathan East. He played with Satch for the 'Joe Satriani' album tour. You can see them playing together in the Expo 92 (I think) concert. Nathan East is a regular member of the Eric Clapton band as well.

  • he genuinely looks like he's having a lot of fun while playing. Thats what its all about!

  • @DecibelFX you should see him play in a G3, hes has an absolute blast when he does those

  • What a bunch of nit picking, assholes on this board.

  • @goshinman50 Agreed, they should all be shot.

  • He's having to much fun, he should be arrested.

  • This song reminds me of spyro 2 so much. i have no idea why.

  • I have a couple of Ibanez Guitars and they are really super. but THE one that I have which is beyond belief is a VIGIER.. if you have £2000 to spare ..buy a Vigier..you will not regret it "Zut Alors c'est Magnifique"

  • Joe is amazing. love the trilling and whammy pedal in this song.

    amazing

  • One thing I always wonder, is the "V" pronounced "vee" or "five", as in the Roman numeral?

  • Five.

  • It's "V"

It refers to acceleration, a change in velocity, a "delta" V, where V= Velocity. Like what astronauts and fighter pilots talk about.

If and when you take a class in Calculus and or Physics, you'll see.

  • Thanks for that. =D Thats kinda cool!

  • No sorry you are wrong Twi11ig, velocity is never represented by the upper case V (as in the title of this track), but by the lower case v. The equation for acceleration has no delta followed by v ( let alone V ! ) in it either.

Also you said "a delta V " there is no such thing! Delta is a triangle shape, there is no V in the greek alphabet at all. Lambda is an inverted V shape but it is an L .

Its called delta V because it sounds cool, that is the ONLY reason.

  • Interesting theory, but unfortunately you're wrong about pronouncing "V" in this title. Joe said it personally on some other live material, it really is "five" :)

  • Prove it.

And if so, it makes no sense. Why not spell it out as Delta-Five?

Maybe he misread delta-v (yeah, small v). I mean, Redshift Riders is totally non-sensical scientifically as per Joe's explanation in his "Super Colossal" Podcast.

Ah, but in the end, who gives a shit?

    Great song.

  • uh, it is very sensible, bro. take it easy.

  • lmao.. the bass has like 5 pedals on it and satch has like 25 on his! haha..

  • that's called groove mothafucka.

  • Could anyone give me the chords from 3:37 to about 3:57? That'd be awesome

  • At 4:11 How does he do that!???!!!

  • keep on trilling the 2nd fret and the open string of the A string, and then move your fretting hands' finger up and down over the bridge, just barely touching the string. This makes a whole flurry of harmonics start to play

you can see it done close-up at 4:16-4:17

  • Thanks man!!!!!! But its definitely going to take time to perfect!!! It toke me months to get down his satch scream :D

  • @wasp2020 and using the digitech whammy pedal

  • @MagneticMetallica81 along teh string there are harmonics caused by the stratching fo the string....hes hitting the string and running his hand up and down the harmonics :)

  • i have this dvd and i wounder why the audience is so mean to the bass player?.

  • No non o, they're saying "Stuuuuu!', not "Boo"

his name is Stu hamm! it's a joke

  • @wasp2020 o man you just answered a big doubt that i had i thought like arotom that they were mean to the bass player thanks jajaj

  • @wasp2020 I totally thought they were booing him years ago at G3 hahaha. I was like WHHHHYYYYY ?! Then later on I realized they were saying STUUUUU hahahaa.

  • @wasp2020

haha thanks for clearing that up. I thought they were booing him too. I was like WTF He's EPIC! :P

  • @wasp2020 Yeah and at one point you hear Joe say " they Stu him because they love him" but not during this song, during his bass solo I believe... I own this DVD - just phenomenal, I watch it all the time. Then I usually go play my Ibanez Joe Satriani model with the amp cranked up to 11 ( LOL )

  • @arotom theyr "stuuuu"ing him...not booing, a common misconception :)

  • havin fun with a whammy pedal?? haha for sure

  • ahhhhhh the ending!! CHILLS!! LOVE HIM!!

  • why is he so frickin good at legato

  • cause he practices like freakin 10 hours a day for decades!!!

  • He very rarely uses his little finger, lol. "'Bad technique Boys and Girls'". This just proves that you can use you pinky only when you really need it and still be amazing.

  • You stupid fool!!! He rarely uses it cause his riffs dont dont require it much. The right way to play when you play a riff that goes from fight fret to 8th its better to stretch and use ur ring finger so you can use the Pinky to either an octave or slide to a different position up the fretboard. Its not that its bad its the correct way you idiot. Lear ur shit before you talk please.

  • Learn to read, dipshit. I was taking the 'mick' out of people who say you have too use your pinky.

Now, if my guitar playing is so bad, you show hows its done. Upload your own video. I assume you play guitar. And dude, I've been playing for a year and 2 months. So I couldn't give a shit, even if I wanted to, about what you think of my guitar playing.

  • hahaha yes i do play. and i really dont need to upload anything. I've been playing 7 years now

  • 1. Did you re-read my comment, and now understand?

    2. How long someone has been playing is not a good indication of how good they are.

  • with all the respect that Satriani n Petrucci deserve, no one think that "Rasberry Jam Delta-V" and "Tunnel Vision" are a very similar songs?

  • Joe Satriana iz GOD!!!

  • badass bass groove at 4:42

  • a very good and rare gem, but its very unfortunate that he didn't do the "Secret prayer" in san fransisco.. that song kicks some major ass

  • joe is a genius!

  • rasberry jam never sounded so good

  • Close ur eyes relax and just listen.

It takes you somewhere far where its peaceful and nice.

    Joe Satriani rules!!

  • Crystal Planet album is one of the bests.

is that guitar a JS 2000???

  • JS 2000 is a fixed bridge guitar, one in the video has a floating bridge.

  • one of my fav guitar songs.....hell i love the whole album crystal planet.....this jams.......

  • This is awesome.

  • paul gilbert and satch pawns all

  • kudos joe!!! :P

  • i boguht this dvd hamms bass fills and skill startd ,me playin bass the whole 2 discs are brilliant satriani is unbelievaable live i prefer most of these versions over studio versions

  • AMAZING!

  • that is most definitely a digitech Whammy pedal. Gotta get me one of those.

  • Yep - that's a Digitech Whammy. Looks like he's got it set to raise the pitch one octake when he rocks the pedal forward. Get one - they're beyond awesome. You can mimic a pedal steel on them using the drop tuning function, simulate a Floyd Rose whammy or a dropped tuning, and even generate a wet harmony to your dry signal. Instant Pantera, Van Halen, Rage Against the Machine, Iron Maiden, or Poco, all in the same pedal. And they're built like a tank. Worth every penny!

  • Satriani Is GOD (Face the Fact)

  • Well Ill agree he is sooo Fuckin Amazing and a Guitar God. But I highly doubt he created the universe.

  • :O ... He did so.

  • It is totally possible that he chat with Jesus Frequently, probably has insane Chuck Norris Bad assery skills in round house kicking and ultra immortality, and even plays poker every second thursday of the month with God. He was probably even there when the universe was created and perhaps contributed to a few molecular creation here and there but im pretty certain hes not God. ;p

  • he's definitely on God's friends list. He probably jams with Jesus, Satan and Buddha on weekends.

  • satan and jesus in the same jam?

  • satan is a prick but damn he can fiddle.

  • but he lost his gold fiddle in georgia to johnny, don't you remember "devil went down to georgia"?

  • Satan and Jesus in the same jam... I can picture that. But Satch would PWN both of them.

  • IF there's a Heaven for rock'n roll music.....

ya know they've got a Hell of a band.

  • I think that Satch isn't God. He's an alien. Petrucci may be God, he even looks kinda like Jesus

  • LOL LMAO hahahahahaha

yeah, the depictions of God varies.

it just so happen JP looks like the depiction of Jesus LOL

  • JP only looks like the anglo-saxon with his old long hair. With his short gelled hair he looks like Ben Stiller.

  • how do you know what jesus looks like?

  • Chris Broderick and Mark morton look like Jesus too lol

  • Awesome

  • Song sounds eerily similar in the beginning to Tunnel Vision by John Petrucci.

  • I totally love the intro!

  • 5:52 - 6:37 is just awsome. =]

  • Genial.

  • nicely said guitar1324 haha like a super saiyan lol cudnt of said it better

  • People, try for a sec to realize how great this.

The entire song (except for the bridge at 3:38) is based around just 1 chord, which is B major.

Yet it remains interesting and cool for 6 minutes.

Now THAT'S Good guitar phrasing :D

  • satch sure loves his mixolydian. I love Banana Mango for the same reason, tons of cool jamming over a very simple base (D major chord that time)

  • NON pas D majeur mais B majeur, en tonalité de E majeur, il utilise le B Myxolydien

  • Dude, I had never thought of it like that before. That may be the most well thought out youtube comment I've ever read. Mad props :D.

  • Fuck he is brilliant :D

  • So Great!!

  • Love these live videos.

  • that song is so much satch's face, funky, melodic, and it sticks in your mind forever

  • Genial

  • Right after the little bass solo at 4:58..the melody is mesmorizing..wow!

  • wow joe satriani iz way way awsome!!

i luv his guitar playin! to b alittle off topic..

iz he using a 7 string ibenez ?

  • C'mon old Celtic bullocks!

  • Oh Lord Satch, YOU ARE THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER IN THE WORLD!!!

  • This song is so amazing, and it's a rare occasion where the live version is actually so much better than the studio version. A guitarist has got real skill when they can keep a song going with different melodys when the backing is almost the same the ENTIRE way through, don't get how it's done :S

I love 2:58 to 3:13, absolute genuis selection of notes :P

  • How in any way shape or form is this being mimed with the guitar? You are a crazy cracker its blatantly being played live i have the dvd

  • what made you come to that conclusion?

If it's the intro where his guitars' pitch goes up an octave then that's a digitech whammy pedal.

  • so very easy to listen to...bliss

  • I just got another one of his albums and this song (and the eight steps) is FUCKING awesome, jesus, there just isn't another artist that i know with so many songs that i like and can listen to their songs over and over.

  • He is the GOD of guitar! Freaking awesome!
