  • JUST MISSED!!! "Whispers (Gettin' Louder)" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 12 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1966. This record was Mr. Wilson's 38th to make the charts!!!

  • I didn't know Barbara Acklin wrote WHISPERS! Wowwwww! I used to go to The REGAL THEATER in Chicago, IL and stay for hours watching ALL the fantastic Entertainers perform. Many of my friends are Songwriters & Entertainers! My client Earl Mills wrote the Book about my cousin Dorothy Dandridge which became the HBO Movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge "starring" Halle Berry! EVERYONE is Invited to Stay in Touch with me!

(Google) POWERFUL PEOPLE and FRIENDS Ann Dandridge, PPAF

  • Imagine riding around town in a '58 Chevy with $2 dollars of gas in the tank (that was a lot back in those days) looking for a recreation center to play a game of b-ball then this song comes on the radio. You guessed it: Everybody was calling "Peaches". Man so many great songs and only two soul radio stations. What a shame.

  • Jackie was amazing..always let down by sub par production tho..good song tho

  • Ms. Acklin:

Some of us DO remember your mom' s songs. I was listening to this last night, and I wondered, "Who wrote this song for him" and saw the name Barbara Acklin and the other people in the room looked at me like I was crazy when I went, "WOW, Barbara ACKLIN wrote this!!" And they looked at me, and I said, " Don't you KNOW who Barbara Acklin is?!?!?!?" and they were non-plussed. I remember the classic, "Love Makes A Woman" even though it was 40+ years ago. Oh yes, WE remember!!! Killer!

  • one ot the greatest song by him

  • oh yeah! Classic thanks 4/posting

  • Jackie was at the top of his game with this hit. I can only think of a few performers who could even come close to the excitement and electricity he generated on stage, James Brown, Al 'TNT' Braggs and Chuck Jackson but Mr. Wilson ( I saw him live four times in the sixties was just fantastic) Damn, I miss the great ones from the days of R&B glory but the memories I will have forever.

  • THIS SONG IS DEDICATED TO MY WOMAN PEACHES!!!

  • The finest vocalist of our time,

  • Had not thought of this one in ages. I had forgotten how much I loved this song. Thank you for the post.

  • Thanks, little Acklin for sharing about your mom's contribution to Wilson's career. These songs live forever and I'm glad that a new generation of singers like Rafael Saqueed, Anthony Hamilton and even R. Kelly is picking up of styles like Wilson.

  • Motown & Soul was so inspirational and the artists were all so tallented and stylish - of course, the north of the uk embraced soul (which surprises me as being a northerner, they could hardly be described as sophisticated! Although they embraced soul which shows the taste is there. Love all the music - thank you for posting.

  • I mean handsome as he could get, this was soul

  • top drawer

  • Jackie Wilson was so hot

  • sweet song from more innocent times

  • sweet song from better days

  • I never like Jackie except for Higher and Higher and his dancing but this song is definitely a keeper.

  • love it.....will somebody please bring back the good old days or at least some good music....?

  • i LOVE THIS SONG CAUSE MY NICKNAME IS IN THE SONG!!!!!

  • Now thats a toh song!

  • @shorty1ification... Sad to have to tell you, but Ms. Acklin died back in 1998. And yes, she sang & wrote some great records, many of them written with Eugene Record of the Chi-Lites. There are several CDs of her music out there & I'd advise you to check out the B-Side of "Love Makes A Woman", named "Come & See Me Baby" for an example of her ballad singing with the Chi-Lites doing some sweet harmonies in the background. She is definitely missed!

  • Kick Ass! Barbara Acklin song writer as well as singer ("Love Makes a Woman")! and she wrote "Whispers (Gettin' Louder)" for Jackie Wilson (& Jackie honored it well)??!! As Louis Armstrong sings, "What a Wonderful World"! Thanks.

  • Thanks for the upload, walks down memory lane have never been more enjoyable

  • This is My Jam Man!...Whoa! Awesome!

  • it dont get much better than this!

  • This is real music, I love it!!!

  • Critics have not neccesarily complimented Jakcie's later songs. Yet I absolutely love this one.

  • Jackie!!!you still around!!!!Yo Soul!!!!

  • @neoconsnightmare3 Yep, it sure it the CUT!!! This a classic jam FOREVER!!!

    Together- Intruders

    Echoes of Novmber- Dick Allen

And this great one from Mr. Excitement himself!!!!

  • In the previous comment, I meant, "STOP Doggin' Me Around."

  • On my block (late 50s, early 60s) every boy thought they were James Brown or Jackie Wilson. James Brown with the cape, Jackie Wilson with the jacket thrown over his shoulder.

  • jackie done this in the sixties, its the best thing he did, quality northern soul

  • one of the best

  • @TumblingDice1972 - What do you mean this is the" BEST" song Jackie Wilson has done? "Best" - as in what - top 10 or regular folks' favorite.

When I was coming up "Doggin Me Around" was the all-time Jackie Wilson classic. What you know about it?

  • oh, wow! had this growing up on 45

  • the most underated man in soul !

fairest of them all listen to it

  • Somehow I can't see Jackie Wilson as ever being lonely.

  • Oh My God - been ages since I heard this. Dancing on the strand. Great song.

  • Maybe on of these days I will....Keep thinking about it....

  • FANTASTIC TUNE !!!!

  • Great song . In the 80's when I was on-air in Modesto,Ca - I had the pleasure ti interview Jackie's half brother . He, along with an old friend wrote and recorded a tribute to Jackie just before he passed away -

  • Motown's background vocalists - The Andantes back Jackie on this song as well as "Higher and Higher" and "Since You Showed Me How To Be Happy"

  • I'm sure she wasn't lying...she probably did want Jackie to record it, it's just that the Artistics were going to do it and Jackie asked them if he could take the song...they ok'd it because they were going to record the tracks for what became a huge album for them with a hit single,"Im' Gonna Miss You"..a huge hit for them.

  • Whispers was originaly supposed to be recorded by The Artistics, also on Brunswick Records. Jackie heard it and asked them if it would be ok for him to take it...and the rest is history....however, they did OK... they cut "I'm Gonna Miss You", it became a huge hit for them and gave them a hit album..it was the biggest hit record of their career...

  • now, I heard a different version...I heard that Barbara Acklin approached Wilson with "Whispers", and begged him to record it.

  • Well,I'm going to go with my version...it was told to my by..Jackie Wilson

  • you knew Jackie Wilson? How cool. He slipped into that coma before I was born, passed away when I was a kid, so I'm assuming you're a bit older than I am.

okay, maybe Barbara Acklin was lying...lol

  • Write the doggone book, doggone it.

  • He was the best and this was one of my favorites by him.

  • been collecting soul for 30 odd years got this when i was 16 and to be honest iv never bettered it awsome

  • Great song by the late great Jackie Wilson!!!

Jackie-your songs will live forever by your adoring fans.

  • Just check that brass out

  • I love Jackie Wilson. :)

  • One of my favorites by The Great Jackie Wilson. Thanks 4 posting.

  • Hello All, and especially to the ones that posted the song. My mom, Barbara Acklin wrote this song for Mr. Wilson but most dont recognize that she was a fabulous writer as well as singer/artist. So here's a little info for those who didnt know. I love the internet!

  • Barbara was indeed a fine songwriter.

  • @barbaraAcklinJr YOUR MOTHER IS BARBARA ACKLIN??!! Stop playin'!! FOR REALS?? I LOVE BARBARA ACKLIN, and I remember her songs well. My name is Sharon, and I live in Texas!!

  • @barbaraAcklinJr Wow, cant top that! I love this song!

  • @barbaraAcklinJr That's beautiful! I've been a Barbara Acklin fan since my young years, I'm 56 so I remember when she was at the top of the charts! I have the privilege of talking to Brenda Holloway (Every Little Bit Hurts) and just found out that she wrote You Made Me So Very Happy. Blood Sweat and Tears made it a hit but she released it earlier! I too love the "Net!!!

  • heard this at a friends last night.... goin in my favs pronto

  • Yes, this is a good one.

  • My mother love's this song. She could not remember the name of the song but she knew he said "peaches" so I found it for her. Jackie was/is still the greatest. Even Elvis Presley said he used some of Jackie's moves. RIP, your music will live on forever!

MY Name--MM, I can still hear his voice,

singing, and talking and calling me at home

& at work, nice memories!!! R.I.P Jackie,

I miss you, there will never be anyone to

even compare with him, he left us way too

    soon.

Best, your MM-- Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you for this song. Jackie Wilson was before James Brown. He is how Motown got its start. He hasn't gotten the credit he deserves.

  • big ups... BUT WE MUST STILL GIVE MR. BROWN HIS PROPS. HAVE U SEEN HIS NIGHT TRAIN?

    MR. BROWN, MR WILSON. R.I.P.

    PEACE.

  • @ax10352 You are right!! Jackie didn't get the credit which he deserved; he was good friends with Berry Gordy; I heard Mr Gordy say that when he was a guest on the Tavis Smiley Show a couple of years ago. Mr Gordy said that he wrote the song Reete Petite for Jackie Wilson; that is a classic!! I love that song!!

  • Classics like this will always be in my favs, ktf

  • That cool notherngirl thanks for visting
