Can somebody explain to me why Adventure Time is so popular? It seems like a really stupid show that makes no fucking sense, and judging from what episodes ive seen, some content seems a little inappropriate for kids. And thats another thing: why do so many teenagers and adults like the show? Its a kids show! It's target audience is 7 year olds!  What about it is so appealing? I see just a bunch of random crap that the producers at Cartoon Network are throwing out there just to get something on

@NJD2014 You're right in that Adventure Time's main audience is kids, however that's not its only targeted audience; Its writers also try to appeal to teens and young adults as well. That's why you see that subtle dirty humor once in a while that's "a little inappropriate for kids", but it's subtle enough that they don't catch on and teens/young adults do. The writers for the show grew up mostly from the mid 80s into the 90's, so they have a sense of humor more similar to many young adults/teens

@JAG1129 And there is a also a hidden depth to the show's backstory that, when realized, takes an "pretty-pretty", feel good show of childish humor and flip it on it's butt to unveal a disturbingly sad, subtly layered testaments to many truths, including the blissful ignorance of youth to the past. To the few who, figure out was is actually going on, it is the equivalent of watching a crippled 3rd world child unknowingly rumaging though a post holocaust while having a hilarious acid trip.

@DukeTravers I know about the post-apocalyptic backstory, but I don't think it makes the idea of the show disturbingly sad at all. In fact, I think it makes the show even happier. It shows a child making the best out of himself, despite the circumstances the world is in. He always looks on the bright side of life, and doesn't let what he can't control bother him. I feel like us adults can learn lessons from him.

And Adventure Time is amazing, Adventure Time literally changed my life. So please, please, down go to videos just to diss it. I find it very hurtful, and immature.

@74SonicMario actually that was the nick version of adventure time. Nick had the show first around 1996-99 ish but it was a short animation series that aired on a show I cant remeber. CN liked it and asked nick if they could re-make it into a new full length series.

@74SonicMario It was the pilot. It was aired, but on Nickelodeon, I believe. They didn't pick the show up, but then after the pilot became pretty popular online, Cartoon Network bought a series instead. It's been damn successful too, so probably a failure on Nickelodeon's part there.
