Hornet, they're 1,2,3,7 because #7 is a two-seater. Allows them to take next year's boss and other newbie team members up for training purposes. #7 is also used as a back-up for other planes having mechanical issues. Wittman, beautiful footage! Nice work.

I saw the Blue Angels fly in San Diego at Miramar NAS back in '91. I almost got in a damn accident watching them practice while I was driving down the highway. LOL I'd pay good money to ride in one of these babies someday.

Excellent! You're the best of all guys recording the blue angels that weekend in San Francisco! Awesome video! I also was in SF on 10/8-10/11, have seen it in front of the closed gate of the municipal pier (end of Van Ness Ave). Your perfect video nearly is better than watching it live, perhaps except sound, live of course unbeatable ;-) Was a great weekend! CU 2011. Do you live in SF?

@mongyaj Yeah, because planes fly themselves... It's about piloting skill, not the aircraft. And they fly F/A-18.

Great video, but I might suggest that it could have done with more local context. Fleet Week SF is great because of the location, but other than the glorious opening shot through the Golden Gate Bridge, the SF scenery hardly features at all. While technically brilliant, this video could almost have been shot anywhere. If I had your skills and equipment, I might take them to Inspiration Point in the Presidio and shoot the planes from a little further away but with the bay and city as a backdrop.

@stinker43 Keep in mind that BA pilots do not wear G-suits during these shows (not sure why?) so the turns would have to be at a min. I believe a BA pilot died after blacking out at practice, a few years ago.

I was at SFO and watched them take off and land. Alas, I didn't shoot video, I was shooting stills. It might be a blast to have a few of enthusiasts coordinate an amateur video of the blue angels during next year's 2011 Fleet Week. Many cameras rolling from various locations with the audio of the event as a part of the video. Any one up for it?

Blue Angel #5 made you look foolish at 11:25 because you weren't paying attention to the sneak pass. Try again on Saturday or Sunday. Great footage otherwise. I saw them last weekend in San Diego.
