  • i'm running a force gt, i get about a 15 second boot time when loading windows, pretty much the same as ubuntu on my 7 year old laptop come to think of it...

  • @supercoolguyT

On kde, you can go to system settings - login and there will be an option somewhere to login automatically to a certain user

( im not at the pc now so the names might be a bit wrong but its something like that )

  • I'm using Arch with OpenBox on a regular HDD. Still damn fast!!!

  • How did you get it, boot straight to the desktop.

  • Man, impressive. You should use a lighter display manager like slim and a lighter DE like openbox or fluxbox. Would make the booting even faster.

  • would look even nicer, when the full sreen logo would be turned off

  • only reason i'm holding back on arch vs. mac (osx) is the amount of time that needs investing to set up arch.

  • @Juilkca It takes some time to set up but it's so worth it. And once you have running it in production levels you won't have to reinstall ever again since it's rolling release!

  • 10 Seconds!

  • you should check out the ocz vertex II ssd those get pretty good benches

  • @fabsb0t that post is old, now ocz have release the "agility" - damn i want one

  • 10 secs from grub to full fanctional desktop with heavy window manager (gnome)?? WTF! im going to buy one right now

  • @dmanooos yeah 10 second boot time is very normal when booting off an ssd

  • do you use gdm or boot in to gnome without login manager

  • @thebanjoz that was using gdm... is booting straight in even faster?

  • @fabsb0t well, in theory. You still have to log in, if via CLI so it doesn't make a difference in the end.

  • @firestar124 it uses autologin, so actually i do login :)

  • Ever seen an ubuntu server 10.04 boot on a vmware? I'll try to make a vid..

  • @sp4zzer yeah I know booting virtual machines is very fast, because the drivers that make the computer load files faster are already loaded. This is why navive boots take longer, because the drivers are not loaded yet
