  • I have listened to this song well over a thousand times, and still can't get enough of it. Swing dancing to this live would let me die happy.

  • this song is about getting clean from heroin

"a 3 year trip on the dragon, till the clinic had to get me clean"

chasing the dragon is smoking heroin and the clinic is referring to a methadone clinic. anyone else ever notice that?

  • haters do your hating I love this and (cet. par.) regardless of what the negative 80% of society say i am gladly part of the 20% who find this amazing regardless. Before arguing the percentages check out the paretto principle.

  • @Junglerythm Same here! In fact, I went to a special record store but they had none of them. But they knew what it was, which is good to start with...

  • @Junglerythm zoot suit riot is the only entirely swing album of theirs

  • Listened to them my whole life..

  • Wanna jump to this one and never let my feet hit the ground ! Luv this band !

  • SO GOOD MAN MAKES ME WANNAH POO

  • You can say they weren't a swing band, but this can be labeled swing music. And it's damn good !

  • Awesome, took me back to being 16.

  • The sad truth is that CPD had amazing swing songs and forgettable ska songs. I know they harped on being a ska band, but it got to the point where they had to collect their swing songs to sell an album (and lord did it sell). You can respect their artistry, but god, do what you're good at you fools! No shame in it!

  • @ParanoiaVII They also made an album with only ska songs!

  • Sounds like going back to the 40's!!!!!!!

  • I had the CPD CD but it got lost :O :(

  • im glad people bring the classics back, THIS is good music

  • They are not a Ska band now? heard about that..

  • IS There a doctor in the house?

  • There's no way Hadryannah resides in Southern California. If you did you wouldn't be debating the topic below. RCR started something special. Nothing wrong with that, and many great bands like CPD followed. In retrospect it was a great time to be around. San Francisco had another huge swing movement - some went so far as to own 30's & 40's cars, homes furnished in Art Deco. Glad i experienced it.

  • It is what it is. Cherry Poppin Daddies were a band around 89 but where NOT a Swing band. They dressed like a bunch of fuckin clowns and some almost appeared to be in Drag! Although experimenting with horns they were not part of the retro movement until later. RCR came from the Rockabilly scene which helped Nichols cross over and gave him the brilliant idea for the 30's/40's Jazz/Swing/Gangster Bop sound. Do your homework before you try to reinvent history.

  • @RhythmAndSoul59 You are seriously not taking in a word I'm saying, so it's kind of pointless to carry on with this.

  • @Skibz778 I think you're full of shit and either in the band or from the town where they come from. Rhythm and Soul is talking about the retro Swing movement not what people were doing in the old days. I don't think there's a comment that states other wise

  • @V8Deuce Sorry for my tone. I was born/raised in LA and have respect for both RCR and CPD, but it's insane to compare the two. CPD played a little bit of swing which made them popular, but they were never involved with the actual "scene" like RCR were; they came out of ska and punk (didn't RCR evolve from Youth Brigade?). RhythmAndSoul is correct when he says CPD aren't and weren't part of the movement Nichols started, so...I'm not entirely sure what this whole argument is about....

  • @Skibz778 Its not an argument. Being right there - from the Rockabilly scene to Swing scene i was really in to this as was RhythmAnd Sound appears, i can tell you that Eddie Nichols did in fact create the Swing movement - and i'm sure those guys didn't realize what they were doing - they initially were doing this for the love of the music.

  • @V8Deuce So where do bands like the Squirrel Nut Zippers fit in? Or Setzer? Or the lounge acts like Combustible Edison? RCR may have created and perpetuated the west coast swing culture and jump blues influence by being the first of that kind, but not all "swing" was the same: it seemed to be a collective effort and not a hierarchy to make it into a movement. In fact, CPD's roots in the ska scene was probably why/how ska transitioned into the swing craze in '98. But yes, RCR was the foundation.

  • @RhythmAndSoul59 not to mention the ska roots they had

  • @RhythmAndSoul59 you're a bunch of fucking clowns. it is what it is. fucking awesome is what it is.

  • @RhythmAndSoul59 ..............true(:

  • @RhythmAndSoul59

Their also predominately a Ska band.

  • Its amazing what Eddie Nichols started

  • @RhythmAndSoul59 I wouldn't say Eddie Nichols had much to do with this, CPD had swing tracks on every album ever since their debut (which came out one year prior to Royal Crown Revue's debut, if I'm not mistaken).

  • @hadryannah "If your not mistaken" ?!?!? Cherry Poppin Daddies wasn't heard on the radio until 1997. Royal Crown Revue came out in 1989/90 ! The retro Swing movement was started in Southern California by Eddie Nichols,Mondo, and the rest of the RCR .

  • @RhythmAndSoul59 The Cherry Poppin' Daddies also put out their first record in 1989. They had 3 albums out before the swing revival movement reached its peak in '97-'98 and each of them had a couple of tracks which would later be included in their '97 swing compilation. My point is, CPD didn't start playing swing because RCR made it hip - they were playing swing (among other things) for as long as they existed, which is just as long as RCR.

  • Could someone please help me to download this song from a website? because I can't find it! Thanks

  • this is an amazing band

  • Awesome band

  • Thanks for the re-upload. Like you said the other version of this one was messed up. This is an awesome song, I love it! :)

  • CPD is a great band.

  • Thank you for the upload!

I love the song but the video makes no sense.

  • well of course... :) I really need to get that. That whole album, as a matter of fact.

  • He looks like Morrissey, blended with Dean Martin.... wow. In other words, unbelievably suave and potently weird.

This is an awesome video, thank youuuuu!

  • Yeah, he does remind me of Morrissey in some ways. Not just the looks, but his lyrics often seem to me like a blend of Morrissey's biting humor and Jarvis Cocker's witty storytelling ability.

  • agreed about the lyrics... it's hyped-up, uninhibited Morrissey. :) The dashes of self-deprication and misery go with it wonderfully. I think I've heard he's a fan, actually (Steve Perry of Morrissey, not vise-versa).

  • Yeah, I've read something to that extent, too. And then there's the CPD song "Flower Fight With Morrissey," which is possibly the most awesome song title ever XD.

  • Thanks for uploading this! I love this song!

  • That was pretty interesting.

    Thanks for sharing.
