If this was based on CBJJ/IBJJ Rules, this info on guard pulling is incorrect. You need to make contact to pull guard, pulling with out contact is illegal and you will be penalized.
What is dumb is to speak when you know nothing! They are not "swearing that every Jiu Jitsu practioner" is going to compete, but for those that are and DID compete they are explaining the rules for their tournament. In this context Jiu Jitsu is a sport.
Fighters that compete in world tournaments, pan-ams and other high level tournaments pull guard. Its a technique to bring your opponent down into a position where you can work submissions, sweeps whatever.

This is the dunbest thing ever! One, only guys that suck or guys that dont know what theyre doing pull guard. Pulling guard is NOT a technique. And second, these dudes swear that every jiu jitsu practioner is gonna compete. Jiu jitsu is NOT a sport, its a martial art!
