Gwindor was my favorite char from the Children of Hurin book. He was brave as when he lead the charge against Morgoth's army in the Fifth Battle after seeing his brother's death. And wise when he counselled that Nargothrond need to stop open war because Morgoth finds where his enemies are and send a force large enough to wipe them out.
This story truly made Morgoth into quite possibly the most sinister villain in the literary world. As I read The Silmarillion, it was clear to me that Morgoth was indeed a powerful force to be reckoned with. But, The Children of Hurin is what really illustrated Morgoth's malice. All because the valiant Hurin refused to reveal Turgon's whereabouts, He Who Arose in Might cursed Hurin's descendants. Turin lost everything; he really meant well, but in the end, his own sword was glad to slay him.
This is definitely one of the more complete and personal works like LotR and The Hobbit. The Sil and Unfinished Tales are good for reference, but I prefer these ones...
it is below tolkien's honor to even compare those crappy teen shit to one of the most epic stories ever written and in which tolkien gave so much effort and so much of his life that even though he lived over 80 years he couldn't finish it! it is that grand!
I agree with Usmcspartan420, go check out their rendition of the Song of the Mounds of Mundberg, it's very very good, and very true to the original Tolkien vibe. This one is a bit iffy, I have to say, definitely not their best work.
The story of Niënor Níniel and Túrin Turambar is so sad. Everything went wrong for Túrin, because of Saeros. I wish Turambar didnt join the Gaurwaith. I wish that he didnt kill Beleg Cúthalion. Túrin Thalion and Beleg Cúthalion were brothers.
The son of hurin shall deal the death blow to the enemy of enemies... Morgoth bauglir!...who destroyed the light not once but twice... and then he stole the reamnant/s of that light and forged a crown of malice and whove those hollowed jewels into his corrupted Majesty. But Lo,the Silmarils have locked within them the fate of the world... and that will was even greater than the appointed "master of fates" who was Melkor.Let Turin, son of Hurin,come... with Earendil ...with Eonwe. With Anglachel!
TBH, I'm not all that excited by this group the Tolkien Ensemble. All of their work sounds Renaissance-y, Baroque European, which is totally not the vibe I get from Tolkien.
(Howard Shore's stuff is equally free of any "pre-modern" sound whatsoever, BTW. If he was going for Celtic flavor, he didn't succeed w/ major-key warblings and John Williams fanfares. The only remotely "medieval-sounding" are the bits produced by other musicians. This jibes with PJ's request for a Wagnerian opera sound)
I was at a live show of the Tolkien Ensemble and I was not impressed at all... They seem to not understand the passion behind the beautiful stories that Tolkien left us with. At the beginning of the show they made everyone stand while they played the "National Anthem of Mordor" which I thought was ridiculous.
There are serious allegory in Tolkien's writings that some just don't appreciate or understand.
Howard Shore by far has done the best at realizing the mood for the storyline.
Fuck yea brother... the song of earendil!!!!! oh HELL yea im listing to thast right now and for the last time of this miserable and enjoyable year.Namarie
if u dont like this song( others i agree sound too rennacancy{bad spelling soz} but not all are that or bad.The song of earendil is a masterpeice... and so is this one.I say if u sir, dont fancy these a little,u simply might be suffering from bad taste in music. And have a happy new year ya bloody animal(Ijust wanted to say that shit)
Sometimes mystery can suppliment the thought of the human mind so much so that nothing is lacking.Who cares of the name wich titles the artist. The day we cannot hear beauty from an unknown sorce is the day where the end of all things has begun.Yea... let us hear not the voice of this person... but the message of life that is in the works of J.R.R Tolkien. This can never be ousted!
Because of the grammer of his language. Tolkien changed it I believe because of the mutation of the "h" to "ch", which is a valid mutation in Elvish. It worked more faithfully with the rules of Sindarin.
They are two variant spellings of the same word, pronounced nearly the same. Ch = Old German or Hebrew ch = aspirant h. Pronounced the same as "challah" or "ach!" It's not intended to be a dramatic change in pronunciation. English "ch" as in "china" is not used.
I just mean that he named a place in some book of his Numinor after hearing Tolkien read about Numenor, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was like "Narn i Chin Hurin... Narn i- a! Narnia would be a good name for that place in the book I'm writing!
This story is all about tragety... so my remarks to finding the PERFECT music to describe this. and let us not forget... becuase of the dark curse that was cast upon hurins family... turinbar will claim the last and mightiest victory-he shall destroy morgoth indefinatly with the legendary dark blade forged by the mighty smith... the dark-elf Eol-when all the heros of evil will be undone(the final battle)
I love this song, and recognize a lot of Anke Eismann's work as well as Alan Lee's. Who did the picture at 2:00 though? It didn't look like either of their styles? Lovely vid.
That was AMAZING! I've never heard of the Tolkien Ensemble - it was amazing music. I've never seen half of those Ted Nasmith Silmarillion-era pictures either!! Where are they from?
Do the Tolkien Ensemble only sing in Elvish? Was that Elvish?
Thankyou for this video. Narn i Chîn Húrin would make an awesome feature film one day!
Thank you, I have only one Tolkien Ensemble CD, They seem quite hard to track down. This is a beautifully evocative song on the tragedy of Turin and Nienor. Excellent montage of images.
I don't have the book yet but I re-read the Silmarillion recently.
