Love your "Homework" analogy. So true. Wish more people did theirs and discovered what was truly good music. Who have you seen at the Cradle recently?
I have faith that if there is ever another youth cultural revolution at the in the State, it will be because kids investigated in all the great modern rock thats happening in clubs these days instead of complaining that nothing good is on the radio.
Last show I saw at the Cradle was the Jesus Lizard, I believe. They blew me away and David Yow gave me a beer after the show (I was 19 at the time). I've seen the Melvins, Meat Puppets, Mudhoney, Dinosaur play there too. All left me w/ ringing ears
@PieceofMindmusic I love all those bands too, indeed all VERY loud. We saw Mudhoney last week openning for Pearl Jam at ScotiaBank place here in Ottawa. They started at 8 PM on the button and there were only about 2000 folks of what would end up as about 10'000, in there seats. Mudhoney was super loud and sounded great, playing essentially to deaf ears, nobody was really paying attention..sad.
This is a few years ago I guess? Saw them in Montreal last month. Was shocked that there were only about 200 people there. What a fabulous band. Never realized how good they were as musicians. All those years of playing have made them such a tight unit. It was a major treat seeing them in 2010, rolling out the classics and new stuff with equal intensity. The Montreal College crowd was not there, it was me and a bunch of other old farts. What do they still draw in NC, more specifically in CH?
@PappyHab mostly middle aged folks but quite a few younger kids who have done their homerok (like moi, not to brag). they still draw a ew hunderdpeople when they come to CH.
i live in Olympia, WA now, so i dont know much about what goes on in CH anymore. Mostly just boring college sports, house development and the occasion awesome band coming to the Cradle.
@PappyHab i came all the way from niagara falls to montreal to see them that night....it was a really good show, but you're right, the crowd sucked...for the first few songs it seemed as though mac had that look on his face, like "why the fuck are we playing here, noone is moving!". the encores were wicked tight
@cyrilskate The give and the take was ...heck I was 25 feet from the stage, which was incredible but yeah...Mac did look a little annoyed, I think at the lack of response. He hardly uttered a word to us. I don't think the Concordia folks did a good job promoting it. Montreal is a massive city, no excuse as to why there were not at least 500 folks there. Man were they great? Had a similar treat here in Ottawa the week before Superchunk, Millencolin did a little show at a club here in Ottawa.
@PappyHab i was at the front in the blue sweater / black beanie...the guy infront of me was the really wasted guy, who after 3 attempts to get on stage, stage dived and landed in his back on the floor....that was hilarious. i felt like i was the only guy in the place jumping up and down! they are playing in toronto in a couple weeks, sold out with broken social scene...hopefully that will be a much better show
@cyrilskate Yeah, he had about 4 people initially holding him up, they collectively blew a tire and he veered off into the wall on the right, poor guy. There was one really drunk guy front/dead-center, head bobbing and fist raising all night, new the words to every tune, including "Cool" . I was very impressed. Enjoy Toronto, I am Jealous. BSS is awesome too. Hey , we both have the same Wilco Vids favorited dude!
Oi, you two - go get married already!
