  • what a cheer jerker

  • One of my memories.

  • Personne d'autre qu4lvis ne pouvait chanter cette chanson, sauf bien sûr notre grand Slim Whitman. Cette chanson est divinement chantée. Merci M. SLIM

  • The Great Slim Whitman was born with the gift of a beautiful voice- thank goodness he shared it with us all. A Legend in his lifetime. I have most of the 600 songs he recorded! Marje Morgan Wrexham North Wales Great Britain...And a member of the Slim Whitman Appreciation Society on Facebook...

  • Slim was always seriously religious, a regular Sunday church attender.

  • Beautiful song a joy for all to listen to Slim is a legend

  • When I was a little boy, my mom taught me to waltz to Slim's recording of "Ride Away," a true cowboy song. I was young and didn't realize what a great voice the man has. He obviously influenced many other artists, but none to my knowledge more so than Australia's Frank Ifield.

  • i am a mans man, i promise you, but this song makes me cry every time.

  • A TRUE LEGEND.THANK YOU FOR SHARING.

  • Absolutely beautiful; what an amazing voice! I just don't understand why he wasn't more popular in America!? What's wrong with people? He will always be my favorite.

  • Slim wouldn't knuckle under to the big Nashville machine. He wouldn't sing the beer drinkin' track drivin' cheatin' songs. And he would be home with his family and not on the road nine months out of the year.

  • @daisyakakitty

It's really a "not so" - not being popular in North America. Slim was mighty

popular, and played on the "western" radio stations all over and in the "juke-boxes" everywhere, till about 1972. I was travelling over the USA and Canada, from 1961. It was only 8 years later when he was again a household name.

  • Great version of a wonderful song.

  • they can play this when i die and i will be happy

  • would someone put on "he reached down his hand to me" I have many happy memories of this song.

  • I just love this number especially with Slim Whitman singing.

    Thanks

  • how i love this singer

  • What a beautiful voice ,i remember when he came to Belfast,NI. in the 50,s, he was very big over in Britain.

  • heaven and hell

  • Lovely....

  • Slim is a legend in his own time. That lovely big face, the unmistakeable moustache and a voice that will never ever know a peer. A wonderful, wonderful man.

  • Have so many of his great songs for he is one of my favorite artist ever and I wish So much I could find a great hymn called SUNRISE by Slim Whitman, when I was small, I remember this wonderful song by only Slim Whitman

  • Google Slim Whitman Collectors International. I can find it for you.

  • Just google Slim Whitman Collectors International. That is one of Slim's many beautiful Hymns.

  • I think in total, he made 14 or 15 toursw of Britain. He's a true star and totally underrated. He's very modest and shy, loyal to his fans and his own beliefs. He never did anything that he didn't want to do and always put his wife and family first, before the business.

  • You have missed a treat not seeing Slim live in concert. To me, he was every bit as good live as on his recordings. Towards the end of his career, I think he was possibly better singing live!

I've seen him live on 9 or 10 occasions between 1973 and 2002. Got brainwashedby my parents when young! :-) My mother first saw him in Cardiff in 1957 on his 2nd visit to Britain.

  • I haven't been to but one concert. I have Beyond The Sunset, it's said 2004 but , I think that just a year they made new ones.

Yes , I think Silm just taking care of Jerry right now , my dad did that for my mom to before she pass & and then he didn't live but 40 days after she died.

  • So far as I'm aware, Slim hasn't made any recordings since 1998. How Great Thou Art was last recorded in 1992, along with 19 other tracks on the '20 Precious Memories' Album.

Slim did say on his last tour, that he would record an album Cowboy songs but whether he has, is anybody's guess. One thing is for sure, nothing has been released.

  • I am 99.9% sure we eill never hear a new Slim Whitman release. He is taking care of his ailing wife Jerry and has sold his beloved home on the bay in Marathon (The Keys) Florida. I have lots of Slim Whitman Merchandise from his 23 year running U.S. fan club here for sale. Just Google Slim Whitman Apprection Society.

  • that what Slim said in the news paper when he was 76 , Slim Whitman a "living legend" on the First Coast

    5/16/2008 GMJ Report

and he was Play some where June 4

  • June 4...what year?? You're not talking about this year?

  • just turn it up ,I have the one he recorded in 2004 , it great ..

  • Pity about the volume. This is very beautifully sung by Slim as are the majority of his religious recordings. This one has the best ever arrangement that I have heard - the music and lyrics flow much more freely. In his 1992 rerecording Slim goes back to singing it,in it's traditional style and though nice, it's nowhere near as good as this version and of course Slim is 26 yrs or so younger and at his best with this version.
