Too me, I live in the UK. The M25 should of had 8 lanes since it's been open. I do find it a joke that they are planning and building it now. France, Spain, Germany and even Holland Motorways and high speed trains systems are alot more better then the UK. We are over 35 years late.
The reason you put the lights on the verge is to fee up space in the centre to make a little more room to accommodate for the extra lanes, also its more dangerous to maintain centre lighting, on carriageway lighting you wont have to close off lanes to maintain them

politics ain't all about "that's better, so we should do that" as you have to consider finance and if the time/money is REALLY necessary to go all the way, or could be spent elsewhere too.
In a lot of cases, if people used the lanes correctly, motorways would run much better. In many areas of motorway that have been widened, car drivers don't use lane one at all, even when it's running well.
It's a shame we can't get these jokers off the road.
The Highways agency traffic officers (who are a waste of money) create the biggest problems on our UK motorways! they create a big scene out of nothing and do sweet FA whe they get there! ohthts right they play wtith their flashing lights and preten to be police. thanks for making the roads a more stressful an dangerous place.
Motorways in the UK are a joke. Its about time they built some more. Shame the country is bankrupt so unless we have lots of toll roads it'll never happen in our lifetime.
This is nonsense compared to some of the highway works in the US...there are roads that are three times the width of the M25 there, and equally as crowded in the mornings and evenings. The M25 is probably going to get that wide in the future, with all the traffic that uses it.
yes the old motorways are teribble we are a small nation which the population is huge than new zeland ect...
when the M1 widening went on for 2 years it was annoying but now there done the traffic is faster new junctions new barriers and in 2011 i think they will revamp the hard should from J10 to J14 and will be a scheme so at peak times the hard should will be used
The M25 really does need widening the traffic is slow most of the times and the surface is so old now
see the left lane, thats mine,I get 60mpg at 56 mph, no one else uses it :)

I live in Greenville, SC, USA. They are going to widen I-85 from 6 lanes to 8, at best we will probably have 2 lanes open in either direction.

yes they made a 5 lane road near Staines M25 junction 13 by using the space at the sides of the road for the extra lane.
