  • this video never plays for me

  • Did you say you had sheet music of this? I'd love to give it a try.

  • that's a funky line man. like your style.

  • like ur tuba, men

  • wow, my 2 fav things, funk+tuba= AWESOME!!!

  • God, I love the sound a good 'ole Rudy Meinl. Great job man.

  • old tuba

  • big french horn lol sorry that was very ignorant of me

but same key F so seems also keys look like a french horn

anyway im not even making sense good playing

  • Very groovy!!!

  • i dig it

  • what kind of mouthpiece is that?

  • that's funky like a pair of brandnew doc martins!

  • Odd you say that...I'm wearing a brand new pair right now and indeed they are funky.

  • Sound isn't bad. It just aint funky. Too busy. Don't feel good. When you are playing tuba you gotta try real hard not to sound like a white boy.

  • shut up sofor9

thats what you mean is not a tuba but a sousaphone-(and its not the same!)

just post a few videos if you can do it better, maybe even with a "black sound"

    XD dumbass

  • You are super awesome dude.. I wish one day I can be as good as you !!

  • Sorry, you're director's wrong. You have to use 4th valve for C and low F (on a BBb tuba) because the 1-3 combination is very sharp.

  • ohh what about the tubas with only 3?

  • actually your wrong you should only use the 2 and 4th combination because the b natural tends to be alot sharper and its easier to tune the c then it is to tune the b natural. this tends to be the problem with most people. keep using 1 and 3 but remember to tune it.

  • If the 4th valve wasn't there for a reason they wouldn't have put it there its used for lower register notes but also works well for any register. Even playing a C tuba I tune on Bflat because its rare you play with a group who tunes to a C

  • Damn!! okay thats why you tune the C so it isnt sharp... and you cant tune both the b natural and c with the 4th valve becuase if you tune one the other is out of tune so thats why you only tune the B natural.. 123 is alot harder to tune than a C 1-3.. point is you can only use the 4th valve for B natural.. it also depends on the tuba.. if you can get to the 4th slide easily to tune the B natural then use it for C and when a B natural comes up just pull out ... many factors play into this debate

  • nice playing bro. I played tuba for about 4 or 5 years, and the last year our band got a rotary 4 valve tuba. I never could get myself to hit 4 instead of 1 and 3.

  • I can hit 4 instead of 1 and 3, its just our directer won't let me!

  • could you send me the music or tell me where to get the music.

  • Nice!

    Greetings from Sweden!

  • it would be cool if you posted some videos of you playing famous bass lines...

  • nice playing dude. and greetings from germany (the funkiest of all countries)

  • okay i'm new to the tuba i played it for the first time today and the one i played had trumpet buttons and it only had 3, so why does yours have 4

  • Actually, the tuba in the video has five valves and is pitched in F. The fourth and fifth valves are used for alternate fingerings in the lower register to improve the pitch. If your Bb tuba had a fourth valve then you can could play low C with the fourth valve instead of 1 and 3. B could could be played 2 and 4 instead of 1, 2 and 3. Basically, the fourth valve is attached to a longer tubing so pitch can be lowered. Hope that helps and good luck with the tuba.

  • thanks

  • also if you were wondering why they look different than yours its because that tuba has tiggers instead of valves, like yours has. the tiggers are alot like the french honr triggers and basically works the same as valves, just different layout.

  • I think I'll stick with valves, don't ask me why thought, they just look cool, and plus the school I attend has no triggered tubas =p

so unless i feel like spending i'd say over $2000(not good at estamating prices of instruments), I have no choice but to play valves

  • LOL YOU LOOK LIKE FOREST GUMP

  • tuba is as tuba does

  • are u the guy in the vid?

  • Only if you liked it. If not, its some other tuba hack :)

  • had to sign in just to tell you that you are the shit man keep up that funk!!

    cant stop the funk!

  • Good playin. I play tuba but mah army band instrument is base drum. If we had a non-drumm play that good we'ed be set.

this is definitly not the way tubas use to sound, especially in germany!

Your video insired my two sons (two kids playing funk) playing drums and trumpet ;-)

  • Thanks for watching and good luck to your funky kids!!

  • Nice!! I dig the "this tuba gets PLAYED!" look.

  • You ain't a Sergeant yet???? Drop and give me twenty-five!!! Glad to hear you're doing great things over in Europe. Maybe we'll get to play in a section someday. -SFC G.

  • Hey Blake! I attached a video with you and me playing. Remember? -DK

  • Nice! I had forgotten all about that wacky piece.

  • you are soooo hot, marry me!

  • what piece is this? and where can i get it?

  • Its just an improvised bass line in the key of F minor along with a sampled drum beat.

  • dude... yr cool man! great work on the tuba!

  • Is this tuba not lacquered or is it just so old?

you play very nicely by the way =)

  • It is an old tuba. About ten years ago I used a Brillo pad to take off the lacquer, which was already fading away. I was going for an old school or frosted brass look.

  • looks nice =)

  • What kind of mouthpiece are you playing on?

  • Its a custom mouthpiece made in Orange County, CA (sorry I forgot the name) Its a Geib cup with a different rim. Thanks for listening!
