hey, can u hook up this thing with fl studio or reason through midi and still use all the features that come with the drum machine ?? for example, can u take a snare drum from fl studio and put it in the drum machine and edit it in the DRUM Machine?!

hey idroplyrics....i dnt know how to connect the xtr20 to garageband..i purchased a fast track and have it connected and my computer notices it but no longer plays sound i now have to hook up the sound through the fast track...my question is..how do i get the fast track/xr20 to pop up on garageband/logic?

No sampling. Either you can use the buit-in sounds or connect midi and use as a midi contrtoller. Sometimes I connect to midi and use the SYNTH track with sound on my piano or sounds in fruityloops. Then just use XR-20 for drums.

You can connect the XR-20 (either Stereo Out or Headphones Out) into a mixer, usb sound card/device or computer's Line In/Mic port.

Most likely a Preset kit. Since getting the XR-20 I have wanted to organize custom user kits, but I have been to lazy.

With the xr-20, can you hook it up to a keyboard and get sounds from there?

You can't get the sounds from the keyboard, but you can use the keyboard sounds. By using the XR-20 as a Midi controller (Master) [Meaning connect midi cable to midi-out on XR-20] and using the keyboard as Midi (Slave) [connect other side of midi cable to midi in on keyboard]. You can press the buttons on the XR-20 and make the keyboard play its (the keyboard's) sounds. You will need a mixer to bring all the sounds together to record your music. I will try to work on the next video lessons.

While doing my search I have come across 2 companies that also make drum machines with built-in sounds......Alesis (SR-16,SR-18) and Boss "Dr.Rhythm" (DR-670,DR-880, DR-3). As far as their functioning I am unsure. The cheapeast of these is the Alesis SR-16 New:$150 used $100. The Boss DR-880..new:$450 used:$300..... One great thing about the XR-20 is that it is pretty identical in operation to an MPC. So if later on you upgrade, you will be right at home....I miss my MPC 2000. No space on desk.

From $275 to $350 brand new. I bought mine used one ebay for $225 and $15 for a 2 year extended warranty. Seen some pople selling it as low as $175 on craigslist.

Yeah. The XR-20 comes with 700+ high quality built-in sounds. If you use it with a midi sound module or with a computer (using usb midi interface) then the possibilities are endless.

how do i shorten up the patterns. i try to make a loop and instead of repeating at the next bar it keeps goin to like 16 then i plays it again.i just bought it i use fl studio and i want to use it with it but i still wanna learn how to put patterns and hooks on it together.

By default it usually does 8, not 16, but you have 2 choices. Go to "RECORD SETUP"..then use a combination of "BEAT" and "PATT LEN"(pattern length). If you have a 16 count then you probably have it set at "BEAT=4" and "PATT LEN=4" ...4 x 4 =16. Your current setting is 4 counts per beat and a total of 4 beats per pattern. To keep it simple set the "BEAT=1" and set the "PATT LEN=8". Feel free to ask anymore questions folks. I have a lot of answers but no time to do the videos.

Yeah, actually now that you mention it. That should be one of the next videos to make. I haven't done it yet, but I figured out how to do it when I first bough my XR-20.. You can make customized drum sets.

I don't know much about the mpd32. I do have a mpd16. I sued to own an MPC2000. If you can, buy a used MPC2000XL WITH memory card slot. Will be the same as MPC500, but better and almost sam price. If you like your own samples mpc500 is better than xr-20 (but samples on xr-20 are great). MPd32 good if u have a fast computer, but XR-20 really is a good overall deal. You can make beats right out of the box.

I'm going to do the mic tutorial sometime this week. I setup a nice little pattern to rhyme on. This week I hope to record compiling the pattern to make a song, then I will take the same song and setup a cheap $5 dynamic mic as well as a condenser mic with a mixer that has the phantom power.

Have you used the mic input yet? Im guessing that either I will have to run my condenser through a micpre, or either use one of my dynamic mics, and how helpful can 3 sec really be?

No I actually haven't used the mic input as of yet. To my understanding, the mic input makes the XR-20 act more like a mixer. You are correct about which microphone to use. Pretty much you plug in your mic, make your beat and then use another device to record your song or rap. The XR-20 **WILL NOT** record any external audio. <<For those who might ask.<<

By default the XR-20 starts out with a beat count of 4, not 8. So you press the "RECORD SETUP" button, then press the page right button "PAGE>". Keep pressing it until you see "BEAT". If you want 16 beats then change the count from beat=04 to Beat=08.

i have an xr 20 and its pretty cool. the samples are a little weak i think but there not to bad. i use it in combination with a korg m3 and protools. pretty decent beat machine for the price, but i highly recomend a full on mpc

Yeah, I won't even lie. I miss my mpc 2000. Pretty much because of the limited space in my home recording studio, I got rid of the mpc and bought the XR-20. I thought about getting an mpc 500, but it was being sold for the same price as the mpc 2000.
