  • Cleopatra was not beautiful according to coins but very smart

  • I think Antony must have been thinking to himself: "Cleopatra.....No wonder Caesar went mad..."

Lol. Great series, sucks ass it's not been back for another.

  • I hated the casting job on her...

cleopatra was supposed to be one of the most beautiful women of the ancient world, and an Egyptian.. yet they cast a shrill, English actress with pasty white skin?

  • @piratebri Cleopatra was greek, She came from line of greek kings who ruled ancient egypt for almost 300 years. If you don't belive me do your reseach. From coins that has her on it she doesn't look beauitful but we do you she was very smart she could speak 7 languages

  • i love this scene so much. bet couple ever

  • OK, I hate that the show got cancelled as much as the next guy, but don't go blaming HBO's stupidity for its cancellation. A show this kickass, and I emphasize the word KICKASS, needs a lot of money for production. For HBO and BBC it was just far too expensive.

  • The tomb of Antony and Cleopatra might be discovered soon. Archeologists are hot on the trail.

  • so intense!

  • always loved this scene

  • @SlyNicolai

They had originally intended to continue Octavian's story while introducing Christ and the origins of Christianity in the Roman Empire, I think that would have been pretty interesting to see.

  • @Evenflowist314 they should have continued with Tiberius, Caligula etc...Roman history is FASCINATING!

  • @Nicollie1062

Moral of the story, FUCK HBO for cancelling this

  • @Evenflowist314 lol AGREED!!!! same with The Tudors show..I had wanted to see Edward, Mary, Elizabeth.. even gone on to the Stuarts.. the show was doing extremely well, perhaps not very accurate but good entertainment and it got the younger generation interested in history

  • @Nicollie1062

Jesus we love the same things, marry me

  • @Evenflowist314 lol I'm flattered ;) :P

  • Ancient Egyptians were not blacks. Only Nubians were blacks, and they were all salves in Egypt.

  • what season is this? and what episode?

  • @Junebaby32515

    episone 8 season 2

  • what season is this?

  • Except Cleopatra was not this HOT! She was known to be very charming and cunning, but with a club foot and typical beaked nose. She became a great beauty in the collective psyche after the grand interpretation by Dame Elizabeth Taylor

  • Egypt was a great nation, then Muslims come with their perfidious religion

  • This is one of the BEST scenes in the entire series...ROME could have ran at LEAST 2 more seasons. I know it was expensive to produce, but what was HBO thinking? They do this to all the good shows and claim too expensive to produce (ROME, Deadwood, Carnivale etc..) The shows may be expensive but I thought that was what HBO was supposed to be about, quality programming... They are still gonna get money, it's HBO after all. I think just greed for oversized profit margins IMO.

  • and other words she was black and white is that so hard to tell look at people around the world and their native lands u will c black white and asian fact....

  • @FlirtezyTV No, i spoke that way because in the way you did is not only "simple" but actually creates confusion. When you say white you're specifically speaking of the caucasian tribes : Gauls / Britons / Germans & their descendants. The earliest tribes of Romans were not WHITE ya retard. Some northern italians mixed with white tribes LATER but us from the Latium Region and south are not. Look at the word Latium wtf does that sound like...Does it sound like white or latin? uh durrr

  • @SlyNicolai Actually, the first condom was invented in Egypt. Not exactly the most effective, as they just wrapped linen around the penis, but better than nothing, I guess.

  • I love this series!!! my god its amazing

  • Herodutus also compares Egyptians to Ethiopians in general when he writes about some differences between Mediterraneans(Egyptians, Greeks, Asians etc.), but he also speaks also about "Egyptian race", "Ethiopian race" etc.. He makes also a paralell description of some "differences" between Eurasian Peoples- Northern Asia, Northen Indians etc. and Southern Indians in other side.

Herodutus also connects a Colchian nation(in the Caucasus Montains) with the Egyptians as the same race.

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal Herodotus clearly states that Egypt basically started as a colony of the Ethiopians.

  • Did caesar and cleopatra ever have a child? if so then that child had to have been like the smartest bravest child ever. I mean, think about it,

being the descendent of caesar, allexander the great, and the egyptions. if that kid exhisted he had to be a bad ass

  • @ninja909 They did have a son, his name was Ceasarion but Octavian Augustus had him killed when he was about 17 years old becasue he was seen as a threat.

  • @firth03 lol damn, that kid sure had some awsome blood in him.

  • what's wrong with the leg !!!!?

  • I happen to be a blackwoman who loves ancient history Cleopatra's story in particular is of great interest . However I do not disregard the fact that history says that Cleopatra was Greek . Then again not knowing a great deal about her mother I do believe it is possible for her to be of mixed heritage. Either way I think this actress fits the part . I have a mixed (black/white) cousin who resembles this actress a great deal. Many people who say Cleo was pure Greek support this casting choice too

  • @joygasm916 Even if She was of full Egyptian ancestry, they are a Mediterranean People- proved by paleo-archeol. paintings, sculpture engraving etc. - a Mediterranean North Africa People for thousands of years. Even King Tut much before and his family had R1b Iberian-Mediterranean-Western-European Y Cromossome DNA Haplogroup. They had also over the time People from South, North, West, East - more blacks or more Whites whatever.

Continents, Regions and Seas are geographies, not races.

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal .I was just saying that most of the controversy or arguments I've seen about how Cleopatra looked seem to come back to "was she black or white?" I personally find questions like that strange like asking if Jesus was black or white. I Ithink this actress has a good blend of "exotic" features that should satisfy most people. That being said it is very strange that people try to put racial labels on ancient cultures.

  • @joygasm916 Yes, I understand. You are right. Thanks.

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal The ancient Egyptians absolutely had european in them at the time of Tutankhamen.

I personally am more inclined to follow the ancient historians rather than the genetics. Hitler was shown to have African genetics (IRONY!) but he was white. I don't think the fact that they had european in their genetics makes them any less black africans. All the writings from ancient times show egyptians to be an indigenous african race, not a "mediterranean" one.

  • @illman8876 Yes they were Africans, as the Berbers as exemple, wich is political geography, not race. Herodotus clearly distinguish them from the Ethiopians. Not only Herodutus in Classical times.

  • @joygasm916 No, she is not pure Greek. Ptolemy was pure Macedonian but his family mixed with the nobility of the Egyptian faction. It is very common for noblity of different races to mix. A marriage between two nobles of different races insured those two peoples would become one, uniting their cultures together. My ancestors often did this as it part of "assimilation".

  • @joygasm916 The Romans & Italians are not one race of people. We are a mixed hybrid race of the native peoples that inhabited Italy. The Roman race comprises of ; Italian natives(Sabbines & Samnites), Greek, Latin, Etruscan & lastly but most importantly, the people of Anaeus(Trojans) from the shores of western turkey. In Sicily the nortern africans and phoenicians are also in the mix. There are, such as myself, descedants of the earliest Roman tribes still alive and well in this world.

  • The best scene in cinematic history? I love the way they shot this, with the music, the looks, everything its so well done

  • eww this cleo is mad ugly elizabeth taylor is way better

  • Cleopatra was a Macedon, descendant from the days when Alexander the Great ruled the known world.

  • Hey, there's only 1:18 of video here, the rest is the actual credits from the show. Just wanted to let everyone know how stupid it was. Thanks for the effort.

  • They did her character so well. Even the way she walks. It's nothing short of brilliant.

  • E-P-I-C

  • It would've been cool to have seen Caesarion acting as king instead of playing catch with the servant.

  • @HistoryLover1550 it would probably cost him his life judging on the mood anthony was is :p

  • @040392agh True, yet Im sure his mom Cleopatra wouldn't be to far away and ready to protect her kin.

  • @HistoryLover1550 myea propable butt like when in season when that fat ptolemy tried to be all king like to ceasar it kinda backfired... that was awesome.. cesaer was all like SIT DOWN (you fat little pig) :p i love history and hbo...

  • @040392agh Ikr that was cool! I liked the episode "Caesarion" in season 1. Caesarion would've been better than ptolemy XIII, being the son of Cleopatra and Caesar he would've probably welcomed Antony as his mother would've done.

  • One of the best TV scenes ever made. I love the way they did it.

  • damn i love this scene.

  • @romaarma30 I love the production design of Cleopatra's palace and Alexandria. WOW!

  • which fucking silly dickhead at HBO decided to stop making this amazing tv series?? the same with deadwood!! are these people totally stupid!! im gonna start a campaign, BRING BACK ROME lol

  • @goldyn12345 AMEN!!!

  • @slvrsfr32 im gutted, i was addicted to watching this, seriously!! it had everything, sex, violence, amazing characters, amazing storylines!! just brillliant. someone said something about them making a movie but i dont know!!

  • @goldyn12345 I think is better that they stop making series before people get bored with them. Rome is classic!

  • Does any1 knows the name of this SONG in the video??

    Please let me know...

  • @NikaS89

Cleopatra seduces Ceaser (available ad itunes store)

  • @Ceesie007 Love that song!

  • If you all want to see a real movie watch Cleopatra (1963) with Elizabeth Taylor. Then and only then well you know what a cinematic masterpiece is.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!!! KISS KISS KISS

  • Damn...they would lock me up and throw away the key if they knew of the things id do to her haha xP

  • Such a well directed scene, fantastic music, cinematography at its best!

  • she looks like the picture on the real coin.

  • @thepixieful She really does!

  • Is the music from this scene on the soundtrack (or any soundtrack)?

  • @knight7se7en Yes it is. It's track 18 on the Rome soundtrack, titled "Cleopatra Seduces Caesar".

  • Oi! Antony......Over Here!!! No...Over here....No no over here! ha ha ha

  • Te amo Mark Antony

  • Love Antony's beautiful brown eyes.

  • Cleopatra was nineteen years old when she met Caesar, yet she was intelligent, seductive, and charming beyond her years. Whether she was a conventional beauty or not, her sexiness and charm is still proven in history.

I thought they chose a great actress to portray Cleopatra. She practically purred as she spoke.

  • She seemed to have been busy redecorating the palace

  • Love the music from this production.

  • I remember seeing this part of the episode. It was the perfect way to foreshadow what was to become one of the more famous romances in history.

  • Comment removed

  • Wrong: this is the QUEEN of Egypt. No matter what her reputation, or the climate of Egypt was.

  • definitely the music

  • wow she is fucking beautiful look at that body

  • Comment removed

  • you can see her pubic hair

  • The ancient Egyptians, when they wore anything, wore a very thin woven linen, so sheer it was nearly diaphonous. Multiple pleating ensured better coverage. This was not intended to be a see through dress. Cleopatra earned a reputation in Rome for being a slut, for dressing in Egypt as her people did. Romans were

used to seeing women in more clothing

    than this.

  • One of the best parts in the entire series!!

  • God I love the opening, WHY DID THEY STOP?!

  • @ViruzNoob14 They stopped because it was a good show. It seems that only crappy shows really catch on (with a few exceptions).

  • love the ending here. awesome music.

  • You've got to admit it: Rome was awesome!

It's a shame that they couldn't do the orignal plan of

    Season One: As Shown

Season Two: From the Aftermath of Caesar's death to Brutus' Death

Seasons Three/Four: Antony and Cleopatra, Feud with Octavian etc

Season Five: Rise of the Palestine Messiah

  • I know right? it's tragic.

  • The set design in this clip is unbelievable.

  • Yes, Cleo was Greek. She was one of the Ptolemaic clan named for Ptolemy who was one of Alexander the Great's generals. Ptolemy and the other senior generals divided up all the conquered lands after Alexander's death.

  • @Atoz1 Cleo was greek, but there probably was some egyptian on her mother's side. she should not be a white woman. Mixed, yeah. White? nah.

(and Ancient Egyptians were NOT middle eastern looking like Modern Egyptians. They were basically mixed Africans. They were a caramel complexion. Cleo should have been cast as a very very light skinned black woman.)

  • @illman8876

Actually, no. The Ptolemaic Dynasty followed the weird Egyptian custom of sibling marriages to keep the bloodline pure. That was why Cleopatra was married to her brother. She might have a lot of inbred blood, but Egyptian was not one of them.

And no, Ancient Egyptians actually did look Middle Eastern. And the royalty even had red and blond hair. Just Google Search for pictures of Egyptian mummies.

  • @DifangDuana The red and blond hair has been proven to be a result of the mummification process. While some of the ancient egyptians may have had straight hair, they are still mixed africans. Both Herodotus and Pliny describe them as being light skinned africans.

Yes, the ptolemies did follow that egyptian custom, but Cleo's mother may not have been typhaena, so she may very well have egyptian blood.

Also, her sister's skeletal remains indicate that her mother was african, not greek!

  • @Atoz1 hupm thats just like saying all white americans are british, all black americans are africans or all latin are from spain or mexico. her great great grandfather could be greek but that does not make her greek, she was a proud egyptian, anyone that deines that is an idiot.

  • @Atoz1 Not purely. To challenge your statement ; Ptolemy was Macedonian as was his children by his wife. However, their bloodline from that point on, stayed in Egypt which means that they mixed with the Egyptian nobility. Cleopatra is product of the unification of Greek & Egyptian culture.

  • @Atoz1 Not Greek, but she was a Macedionan!

  • @misteropole Macedonians were and are greeks, read ancient historians.

  • @misteropole Sorry fool, go learn history.. Macedonians were a Greek tribe... and Greeks. You Slavs are from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and want to claim a name that does not belong to you.. Your Slavo-Macedonians.. Slavs who migrated to the Greek region of Macedonia.. You are as silly as claiming Prussians are not Germans, there Polish.. Get a clue ass whipe.

  • This song is awesome ^_^

  • You all know that Cleopatra was Greek?

  • This period, with Caesar and the final collapse of the Roman Republic, is the greatest story of the ancient world. The years spanning these episodes transformed the both Roman world and western civilization for centuries. The dramatic events depicted, not only took place in substance, if not in detail, but are given appropriate weight by the directors, writes, and actors.

Compare this to the gratuitous dramatics of so many contemporary films...that are essentially about nothing at all.

  • Couldn't agree more.

  • I was so inspired by this series that I bought the complete seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. They are my prized possessions. I have watched these episodes many times, and each time I do, I see a different facet of the "cause and effect" of events that occured - It's amazing.

  • Realmente muito bom mesmo

  • ty for the vid, gosh, i love Rome.

  • In my opinion, this is one of the most epic scenes in the series.

  • I love this egyptian style version of the main rome song more than the other.

  • @SoraTakenouchi16 is true :3

  • @SoraTakenouchi16

I have been trying to get that egyptian version on mp3 for the longest. Cant find it though.

  • @Ramesses718 if you find it,let me know,please !

  • Respond to this video...

  • Comment removed

  • @manupainkiller It is arranged differently to fit the episode but the same music. It's basically the same. Either way it's hot! Hope this helped...

  • @Ramesses718 thanks for reply, for others, this magnificent soundtrack it's on youtube "cleopatra seduces caesar"

  • @manupainkiller My pleasure! I have been looking for this track for the longest. Glad to spread the word to ROME fans like myself. Now, if we could only find some of the other music from season 2. I am surprised they have not released a season 2 soundtrack, that season has a lot of nice music on it. Just have to do some research.

  • @SoraTakenouchi16 this song is the best !

  • horse dung is the oldest drug!

  • Damn cleopatra is beautiful you dont charm her she charms you thats what makes her hot!!! damn i wish there were more real women like her

  • The scene of Antony entering Cleo's palace was cinematic greatness. The costumes, scenery and music all meshed perfectly. Very memorable!

  • People, what's all the focus on her looks? Historically, Cleopatra was not physically beautiful. However, she was very intelligent, spoke 7 languages, and clearly was very clever, charming and ambitious. Also, most men would find the wealthiest and most powerful woman in the world attractive. It's also said that she could sing rather well.

  • acculay, she spoke 9 languages plus hyrogliphs,

  • That is true. And even if she were indeed beautiful, I'm sure the definition differs from the contemporary sense of beauty. But sadly this IS entertainment business...

  • God damn she was sexy in this series.I always hear women say "she's not beautiful at all" LOL they really don't understand.

  • She was the best Cleopatra i have seen in a while. I think she is gorgeous! That scene was timeless. God.. i miss Rome.

  • I still don't know why they took it off.

  • Hi, I'm a women and I think that her Cleopatra was the hottest ever. Very sexy and original beauty, not the usual hotties we see all around.

  • she wasn't it was her intelligence and wit that made her attractive

  • I love the series too!! I think James is so hot and sexy! He's got such a great body!! Rome was awesome.

  • Antony would shag anything that moved. I believe his ancestors were from a less than reputable part of the Italy, and thus looked down upon by Romans, especially the old families.

Still, he was a good warrior, a good right hand man for Caesar.

  • The Antonii were of good pleibeian stock. In fact, Mark Antony was related to Caesar by blood as his mother was a Julia. If he was looked down upon by Romans, it was because of his father's failures as a general.

  • So ok, she was not a beauty, but still can be cute or at just not ugly.

  • Nothin wrong with being a drunk womaniser...

  • Cicero always said Antony was a drunk womanizer. Guess he was right....

  • anyone else hungry?

  • I love this show! All the actors are great at expressing emotions with their eyes and body movements.

  • I love that series! This was such a good end to that episode! I love the music!

  • i love this series ! i think this is from season 2 because i only watched season 1 and it ends with the death of caesar and that soldiers wife which i have forgotten her name!

  • Aw yes =( Niobi

  • Nice dress . . .

  • if you want hear the complete track, only type "Cleopatra Seduces Caesar" in the search box. The Entire music is excellent.

  • what episode is this??

  • Season 2, episode 8 (btw episode 20): "A Necessary Fiction"

  • liked the credits

  • Antony. Cleopatra.

    EPIC ENDING to an episode

  • All you scholars are focusing in on the wrong thing! In the scene it's a woman with a great body in a see-thru dress!! hahahaha

  • what was the episode after this

  • "Deus Impeditio Esuritori Nullus (No God Can Stop a Hungry Man)" SE2 E9

  • I'd do her. I love the song also.

  • And Cleopatra was not addicted to opium and was not a classic beauty. Besides, Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians all had different standards of beauty.

  • That was one of the historical liberties taken that really cheesed me off. Cleopatra could not have been a dope addict as the smoking of opium was invented in the late 1700's by the Chinese.

  • From Wikipedia's entry even:

'The Egyptians cultivated opium thebaicum in famous poppy fields around 1300 B.C.'

  • Completely false !

opium is the oldest drug ever used in humanity by doctors ! It s known from more than 3000 years !!!

  • poppy juice was used for millenia but the smoking of dried opium gum only began with the 18th century Chinese.

  • Wrong Marijuana is the oldest!

  • For all of Rome's accuracy, Alexandria was way off. It was a Greek city and all of the Ptolomies were of Greek descent

  • fourganger 88, remember also that much pictoral "evidence" was propaganda by Rome to demonize both antony and cleopatra, it's no doubt that they wouldnt make her out to look like a goddess.

  • The coins issued by Cleopatra herself prove she was NOT a beauty according to the then prevailing classical definition. That is not Roman propaganda, simply fact. But armed with her political sophistication, formidable intellect and fabulous wealth, I doubt if Cleopatra gave two figs if she was not deemed a great beauty. She was Queen of Egypt. No woman wielded as much personal power or riches as she did. As such she was the most desirable woman of her era, as the calibre of her lovers prove.

  • it's so romantic the way marc anthony looks at cleopatra in awe a for a bit before he says he name.

  • One of my favorite scenes from HBO's Rome. What an ending ...

  • I agree, a fascinating and shocking ending, one that is compelling both majestically and in an Egyptian fashion.

  • My Fav song too, fits with the scene.

  • Correct me i
