HOWEVER You answered your own question Grim, you are arguing against yourself but I doubt you realize it...? Montoya is a massive talent, but talent for speed and even fitness means virtually nothing in NASCAR (due to ""non-event corners", banking, drafting, & yellow flags, etc..) Imagine taking the most excellent marksmen in the world that w/ a high powered Sniper rifle, hits flees off a dog in a Hurricane from a mile away. Lets say only .00001% of the population is capable of this......(con't)
(con't)....now take that guy &put him in a competition with a 1960s hand gun where ppl shoot at a target in a controlled environment from 10ft away. Lets say 85% of the population is capable of hitting the target, even 81 year old men,(age of current oldest NASCAR driver)
Now all of a sudden the Marksmen (Montoya) doesn't look like anything special. They have taken his talent out of the equation & he must find another way to win But, Montoya isnt much more than consistentlyextremelyfast BUTdumb
Well....Open Wheel drivers IN America DO suck (particularly Danica) Drivers who race in America Nascar,Indy, what have you are usually 2nd rate drivers that couldn;t cut it against the best and in America you can "pay your way" to a good seat unfortuatly so that is what they do. Also,
Montoya "sucks" at racing in general not just NASCAR, That is why no F1 team wanted him. he wreaks ppl out, and mostly he is treats team members horribly! but he is an AMZING! talent in terms of Shear speed
if their car drove like an F1 car and was Aero sensitive when drafting, most all of the NASCAR drivers would have wrecked, of course that is baring if they didn't pass out first from the Vertical G's the oval would induce while @ 260+mph
I have been reading some comments on how a cup car and F1 cars differ in driving style and all of you guys have skewed opinons here that are unfortunetly limited by imagination. Hopefully I can explain it decently, though I really need about 6,000 words + to even come close, but basically , yeah a Cup Car is heavier, but the Tires have HUGE slip angles and trust me they are one of the easiest things I have ever driven and a lot of other driver's confirm this feeling they are Xtremely forgivng
the F1 car tyre conversly has a famously Razorsharp slipangle &gives VERY little warning when letting go. Couple that with by-far the stiffest chassis known to man (which physics tells us will naturally require muchfaster reflexes) &further exacerbate the driver's problems by having drastically&constant changing grip levels due to aero sensitivity & you begin 2 realize that F1 drivers are required 2B the most supreme talents as they have 2 drive "actively" during every inch of road. Very unique
Have you seen a recent picture of Mark Martin? He is ripped! He could beat up a twenty year old for sure. Im sure Martin would love to have multi-million dollar electronic readers telling him when to shift and when to begin braking and having traction control systems and a car that is half as heavy with tires that are more than twice as wide. Instaid Martin fights 3500 pound cars going three, four, and somtimes five wide around corners with very narrow tires on a ill-handling vehicle.
Well you were implying it by saying that they would rather drive F1 cars instead of NASCARS for 500 miles. All F1 drivers have to pass a fitness test to even think of sitting in an F1 car. The reason they finish to the back is becasue there car is quick enough to finih at the front.
If F1 cars were ultra-responsive why are there guys that spin. And F1 drivers might not go for as long, but there cockpits incredibly cramped and they also drive in high tempretures, Bahrain, Malaysia, Turkey, Singapore. The fact that a 49 yr old man can still drive in the highest level of NASCAR shows that NASCAR is less physical than F1.
The physical needs for NASCAR is less than Formula 1, Mark Martin is 49 and Coulthard is 37 and going to retire at the end of the season. What does that tell you Hmm?
dude, even if i didnt watch nascar, it would be sports cars, touring cars, cart, irl, trans am series... you see where im going right. if it werent nascar it would be anything but this F1 shyt.
You're an idiot, you really think F1 has to do with electronics? LOL strip that shit and he'll still kick ass in a race, the best of NASCAR couldn't dream of becoming F1 drivers Montoya stepped down to NASCAR because F1 was becoming to physically demanding for him.
dude, you saying "data set" every 3 seconds to seem impressive is a lost cause. your pointless driveL isnt even remotely amusing. how is F1 these days? can only 3 teams win still? first driver to turn 1 wins?
lol, well highway955 pointed himself out. how embarrising. so which one are you ...? 1.ignorant 2.logically challenged or slightly racist?
seeing as how your statement shows a lack of understanding for the term data set and therfore a lack of understanding of statistics I will we will file you under ignorant. boardering on logically challenged though
f1 sucks ass. strip all the electronics and lets see how fukin fast and precise schumacher and juan paco montoya is. imagine that! no traction control to save your ass. just deport this moron already. mira mira
fyi it is 2008 try to find a car with out electronics. traction control has been eliminated. nascar sucks old school horse crap. i would like to see a nascar V8 run at 19000 rpm ford chevy dodge or toyota i bet it will fail on the first lap piece of crap.
Montoya is great. Also somthing i'm pissed at are the Nextel racers that regular drivers in the series go to the bushch series i mean really Dale earnhardt, and the one that pisses me off the most is Carl edwards he leads the busch series and is in 8th in Nextel cup.
happy to say there are Chinese drivers competing to get into F1....look up Ho-Pin Tung
I'm sure some might not like the idea of a Chinaman being better than Nascar drivers but here he is, Ho-Pin Tung competing against the best in the world to try and earn a seat in F1. great driver
Two Words: Scott WHO? When was the last time you won an open wheel race Scott? Did you win the Indy 500 on your first try? or EVER? NASTYCAR and it's Redneck fans dont like Foreigners, especially when they beat the crackers.
It's funny cause the same Montoya haters or should i say racist, i was at the coke 600 and when he was introduced and there were alot of racial slur towards him, thats sad. Anyways the same haters are the ones that will be wearing the #42 hats when he starts winning races lol! Bandwagon hater racist. Probably the same so called fans that threw bottles at Jeff Gordon car. Oh i forgot they were banned lmao! Haters.
"Also Montoya was over a second quicker than Gordan in his own NASCAR and he'd never driven one before, lol." He was a second slower. Gordon was also a second slower than Montoya's own practice laps.
the only reason i watched this video is because juan pablo montoya was in it... formula 1 is the stuff!! the fastests track cars with a certain formula... and all of our tracks have right hand turns not a couple... oh yeah if you wouldn't happen to notice some drivers in nascar take for ever to win, then you add a formula 1 driver who knows how to drive and look what youget a winner 7 races later!!! no nascar driver could win in formula 1...
You realize that NASCAR has a few different series. This is more akin to a NASCAR driver winning in GT. Montoya hasn't won a Nextel race yet. The Busch series is for new NASCAR drivers who have to earn their stripes to run with the big teams. They spend far less money on the cars etc. JPM isn't even in the running for championship contention.
Pruett is not a NASCAR driver but a Great American driver from Road racing. So it makes Montoya even more amzing that he could come back from AN EXTRA pit stop to take the lead (again)from his team-mate (again) in the same car! wow! Montoya made that same pass on pruett (from that far back!) earlier in the race so I think he decided it would work again? but Pruett smartned up and closed the door. Unfortuently after Montoya had already commetted. Nothin Montoya could do at that point.
i'm sorry to break it to you, but even statistics (and logic) rightly suggest that the data set with the most people has a greater chance of their being phenomenoms within that data set. and the data set for F1 is Waaaaaaaaaay bigger than NASCAR. In light of this fact, you'd have to be either ignorant, or logically challenged (and perhaps slightly racist)to think the best drivers in the world are all Southern Gentlemen.
but to say F1 drivers are more talented than NASCAR drivers is quite easy. Even the slightiest comprehension of statistics tells you this. NASCAR is mostly old guys with a southern accents who had to beat other guys from the same region, where as F1 drivers have to go through the ranks against the World! Even Big countries like China and India. (China alone has 4 times as many people as the US!) and on much more mentally and physically demanding circuits!
you have to remeber that Jeff was 7 seconds off the pace actually, (3secs off the grid from the minardis who were in MUCH slower cars and tires that were A YEAR OLDER (which is a huge diffrence)and Indy is by far the easiest track to drive on in F1 (mickey mouse circuit) Also Montoya was over a second quicker than Gordan in his own NASCAR and he'd never driven one before, lol. As a driver and Champion, trust me Montoya is the most talented driver in F1, Easily
Pruett didn't go wide, thats the normal racing line. Watch the pass Montoya made on Pruett on lap 3, it was an identical move, but that time a pretty legitamite pass, Montoya established the position by getting door to door before the apex of the corner. Sticking your nose where you know the guy is about to apex not a clean move.
there is really no debate, the incident was definately montoya's fault. Pruett was already turning in, he had the corner and Montoya just stuck his nose where he shouldn't have been. With 9 laps to go it was just dumb, Montoya was faster, he probably could have gotten by clean on the next lap.
wtf are you blaming montoya for, he saw a room and went for it. pruett made the mistake of going wide and tried to come backe as montoya was as attempting to slip by. tought luck for pruett but montoya did not do any thing that a racer would no do. You nascar fans are not used to such moves becouse you are used to watching a bunch of rednecks turn left for six hours.
A few people here should stick to watching other sports because they don't know what they are talking about. Pruett is right, Montoya acted like a spoiled rookie because he knew he couldn't make the pass (especially not in those 1.5 ton NASCRAPS which brake like horse carriages) and still did it. You don't try to out brake a car if you have both started braking at the same time, watch the video.
And Pruett still tried to hit Montoya after the first contact...I think Pruett is crying too much, he should have predicted that Montoya would attack him at any time, specially at the end of the main straight...It was well deserved by Montoya! Show these men how real racing is!!
Picture Peyton Manning playing in Arena Football league for a change of pace, throws an inadvertent costly interception, costing his team the win. Now imagine a disgruntled wide receiver for said AFL team calling out Manning for being a Rookie. LOL fuckin moron. Pruett...Just focus on your rear view mirror or go sign up in Kart Racing.
Hilarious! A nobody by the name of Scott Pruett (driver for a minor league version of NASCAR), gets punked by a better road course drive. He then follows up lecturing how Juan Pablo Montoya drove like a rookie and blah blah blah. Hello?!? Do you know of JPM's resume and know that he was a top driver for the most competitive road course racing league in the WORLD.
Scott Pruett's been racing Sports Cars/OW cars WELL since the early 80s, multiple time Sports Car champ, WTF are you talking about. JPM wasnt even close to making the pass when he hit Scott. That was Scotts corner 100%. There was no rush in making that pass, there was 8 laps to go. JPM should have been closer braking into the corner and along side Pruett when turning, thats how you pass, not punt them in the rear corner panel and spin them out.
Just bad driving? Juicy Fruit idiot. Juan Pablo blew everyone away despite problems. What did we expect though? Formula 1 drivers are in another league compared to these guys.
F1 drivers are DEF in another league....I think it shows Montoya is by far the most talented driver in the series but talent doesn;t matter on ovals. also there probably a lot of cheating in NASCAR?
So whats your evidence that F1 drivers are much better, realize, this was a busch series race. I won't disagree that montoya is a good driver, he is, but this wasn't a cup race. I recall several years back that Jeff Gordan was thrown in an F1 car at Indy and he was doing times only slightly than a second off what the driver of the car was. Montoya said it himself that a Nascar car is more difficult to drive than an F1 car. Hey, I love all racing, from NASCAR to WRC to CART, you should too.
Yes, Gordon was doing well, but realize that even a half second would put you at the back of of the pack in F1, where qualifying times from first to last are within a margin of 1.5 seconds. Montoya did say Nascar was easier to drive because they handle like garbage trucks compared to F1 cars that are designed to react as quickly as the driver can input feedback into the wheel.
Yah, but for someone who has never driven one of those vehicles, I'd say that's quite an accomplishment... That's whats so cool about racing, it's not your ability to necessarily drive the fastest car on earth, but rather your ability to to take something that handles like a garbage truck, and drive it like it is the fastest car on earth.
One second is a lot. When Michael Schumacher did his first laps in a Jordan 91 he was at once faster than the team mates driving the cars for a year or longer. He did it with old tires and old aero package.
but to say F1 drivers are more talented than NASCAR drivers is quite easy.

Montoya is a moron without a brain.

So are you.

but to say F1 drivers are more talented than NASCAR drivers is quite easy. Even the slightiest comprehension of statistics tells you this. NASCAR is mostly old guys with a southern accents who had to beat other guys from the same region, where as F1 drivers have to go through the ranks against the World! Even Big countries like China and India. (China alone has 4 times as many people as the US!) and on much more mentally and physically demanding circuits!

the majority of nascar drivers are 25-25 you dumb shit

i'm sorry to break it to you, but even statistics (and logic) rightly suggest that the data set with the most people has a greater chance of their being phenomenoms within that data set. and the data set for F1 is Waaaaaaaaaay bigger than NASCAR. In light of this fact, you'd have to be either ignorant, or logically challenged (and perhaps slightly racist)to think the best drivers in the world are all Southern Gentlemen.

you have to remeber that Jeff was 7 seconds off the pace actually, (3secs off the grid from the minardis who were in MUCH slower cars and tires that were A YEAR OLDER (which is a huge diffrence) Also Montoya was over a second quicker than Gordan in his own NASCAR and he'd never driven one before, lol. As a driver and Champion, trust me Montoya is the most talented driver in NASCAR, Easily
