Pensate: Karajan da giovane pensava che questo genere di opera non fosse una gran cosa. Sapendo che Toscanin andava a Salisburgo a dirigere questa opera, ci corse in bicicletta. Da allora capì che rare volte una musica è brutta, perchè male eseguita. Ma un grande interprete rende a volte grande quello che si ritiene poco grande, è una virtù di pochi interpreti: trovare una grandezza maggiore in qualcosa che non ci saremmo aspettati.E rende giustizia a tutti.Viva Donizetti, Callas, Karajan!

wonderful night!!I'm starting to love Karajan's symphonic conducting of this as well...Maria 'does' this Berlin performance almost 'in pastels' (compared with her earlier interpretations) and gives Lucia yet another 'dimension',to add to the dozens she'd already revealed to us...what a truly magnificent woman she was (IS)!!Love her/her art...
