i wishd id had some day 1.3-75 blue. 1.3-76 green 1.3-77 white and 4 rs2000 models 1976 white. 1977 green. 1978 red annd 1979 green and an old rs2000 white from 1975 and as garage an rs1800 1979
my 1974 2 door mk1 is under restoration at the moment ! :) just put the big bubble arches on it, looking mint of its nut ! cannot wait to drive it ! LONG LIVE ESCORTS !!
love the old days escorts everywere, not too many around anymore but ill savethem from the scrap yard, some people dont know what theyve got sitting in the back yard rusting away (long live the escort)
i like the way foed added the smoke to the cars in this advert , at least they were warning people about what was goin to happen to the cars after a short while .......
Ford's neater 5 seater the answer is escort! Brilliant car brilliant ad. Developed under the code name brenda launched in 1975, basically a re-engineered mk1 in a tidy squared off body shell. the estate & van variants were only new from the A pillar forwards. I've owned plenty from vans, 1.6 sports & an rs2000 custom. i loved 'em all.
Had to be the 2nd biggest Ball of SHITE that FORD made next to the U.S Edsel. I served my time when these DUNG HEAPS went on sale. Talk about CRAP Manufacture..!!
I used to clean cars as a Saturday job as a kid and the owner of the garage owned an RS2000, what a lovely looking car I used to take an extra log time cleaning it.
I was also going scouts and I remember on the way to a camping trip we all hustled to get into one of the scout leader new Space wagon our other car was an Ford Escort with Capital down both lower sides of it.
Does anyone remember those Escorts or indeed the RS2000.
Old skool fords are still alvie and going strong mate!! Escorts and especially any ford RS. Old skool fords have alot of following. And what mk rs2000 was that one your talking about?
also this advert is sooo crap! it doesnt tell you how the car can handle so well....or how much fun it is... or ... i dont think they had any idea, i think they were stoned when they made this advert WTF
These were solid little cars.. I had an Aussie version from 1977..cost $4,500!!!.. 2 door with rally pack, firmer shocks, rear anti roll bar, Uniroyal steel radials on 13 inch slotted steel rims. jammed the 2 litre Cortina ohc motor in it and put on front bumperettes, front bib spoiler with Escort written backwards to terrify drivers looking in their rear view and Lucas driving lights, plus big black side stripes. ..so much fun!
I loved/hated my 1976 escort van. I drove it around Australia in 1997, had to roll start it out of Melbourne. A mechanic in outback S.A fixed my car starting problem in exchange for a pack of smokes and a six pack of beers. I got pulled over by the cops in Darwin as they saw my VIC Rego plates and couldn't believe that I drove it that far. A year later by the time I got back to Melbourne it was belching as much smoke as the escorts in this commercial, though it was black smoke! R.I.P old friend!
Fantastic. My Ford Escort wasn't very good in roll or when landing in Fog or low visibility. Still, with an impressive 800 feet per minute climb these versions must be the ones to own!
shut up if it wont fr ford you wont be driving. the escort was a classic will still be going for over another 100 hundred years vw engines are just throw in golfs are prams
Ahhh.. the memories, the rust, the overheating... my 1.6Ghia went through 3 prop shafts, 2 front wings, 2 radiators and 2 exhaust pipes in just 3 short years. Yet I literally shed a tear when I had to let it go after 4 years.
Yes these were european Escorts. The red one was a 1.6S (Sport), the white one was a 1.1L/Popular (minus it's wheel trims) the yellow was the 1.3L estate (station wagon) and the silver/grey one was the 1.3Ghia.
yes, your right. there are many details that changed in the mk2 - but when you look at the technique of both models from like one meter away - it looks the same :-)
I wouldn't know - that's just what I remember reading in a magazine once, but it wasn't a very serious article. Damn I can't get that tune out of my head
Cool. I used to feel like that when I drove my mk4. Funny though how the mk2 was not really any more advanced than the mk1, still nice tho - especially that mexico/sport that did the handbrake turn
6 dislikes? Those people drive Kias.

It was the mk2 RS 2000 mid 80s model poss. even earlier I think, anyhow as you can appreciate those cars are super rare now.
I know that ford produced RS as rally Sport but what did the XR stand for in the XR2 XR3 XR4?
