  • Robert Newton was only 36 when this was made, the same year as 'Major Barbara', where he looks totally different. Deborah Kerr also appeared in that and he had to punch her in the face in that film too. In her memoir she spoils his 'baddie' image somewhat by recalling that the 'gentle' Newton was worried he'd hurt her and had to be persuaded by Kerr to give her 'one good slug'. He ended up loosening her tooth and giving her concussion! It seems he was right.

  • Thanks for showing what happens when you reap the whirlwind...

  • Great film, not read the book but will def will. Great to see the bridge, the signal box is still there.

  • Thank you - it was spellbinding to say the least (yikes!)

  • i salute you sir mr robert newton , a true , english, cornish legend !

  • Good film, actually, regardless of the book, which generally have little connection anyway. Thanks for the upload.

  • The film was absolute rubbish nothing like the book, it was like lots of little sit coms, having no continuity!

  • Thank you for uploading this film which I've always wanted to see! It's disappointing that there are so many changes to the original book which is much more powerful. The film is very sanitised and there are many errors in costume and how things should have been portrayed. The worst things however were leaving out one of the most important characters and completely changing the ending! Having said that, it was very absorbing and interesting to me as I am a great fan of A J Cronin's novels.

  • @Janeinwales

I wonder why did they even keep the name of the book if they changed everything else in it??? I hate when they do that!!!

  • Thank you..this was wonderful and one I had not seen!

  • James Mason <3

  • My name is Brodie james mason;)

  • Thank you for uploading this movie!Newton is a favorite actor of mine and I really wanted to watch him in something else than John Silver or Bill Sykes!

  • Thank you for uploading this =)

  • Thank you very much!
