@scoobydaboy92 the only thing that sucks about this game is that the weapons are way too weak for the enemies. Most of the common cant be taken out quickly with the super shottie, they even take a few rockets before going down. In doom you could get by just fine with a regualr shot gun and the rest of the weapons were more than effective against the enemies. different story in quake.

without quake there would be no gold source(half-life 1 engine), cuz it was based on it... there would be no source(half-life 2 engine) cuz valve made it after gold source..that means no half-life 1-2 no cs 1.6 no cs source... this is the mother of GREAT GAMES so yeah, don't complain, it's old, but it's good and it is the mother of the games you know today...

I think that all these kids today are playing games that companies know they'll play, as if they were a diamond you can keep trying to mine, never succeeding. In the 90's, these guys didn't know that. They knew kids loved Mario, and did their best to imitate it. Besides that, they were throwing stuff out there to see what stuck.

If games these days were like that, Call of Duty 8 would be an RTS and Halo would be a tactical shooter.

This game was thrown at the gaming wall, and it stuck. Hard.

This reminds me of an old game that I used to watch my cousins play for the computer (floppy disc) ages ago. It must have been from the 90s, and all I can remember is that you could be a chick with guns, or a lame guy with a pole. This game had werewolves, zombies, and an awesome zoo level with giant spiders, statues that came to life, and rats that ate blood. Can someone help me identify the game that I described? :) It would be appreciated very much, ty!

I used to play this with my dad when I was about 6 years old. We didn't use the WASD system, but the arrows, spacebar and ctrl XD (It was freakin' hard, but we made it through the Nightmare mode). Now I am 16 and still play this sometimes for some nostalgia.

I think Halo is the only game in today that has the same kind of sci-fi action funny gameplay... otherwise... Nothing else really does it for me. I love VALVE by the way... @mestarispy Well, judging from the gameplay... I think RAGE will kick COD's ass. Because, there's more than 2 weapon limit. So you can carry up to 5 guns. And it's in a desert. There's mutants... and vehicle sequences.... I think it will be GOOD. But I really hope that DOOM 4 plays like DOOM 1.... because I have heard rumors of a story for DOOM 4... I think DOOM doesn't need a story. DOOM just needs to be a run'n gun game. As it has always meant to be. And yeah, somebody should remake Q1.

I played heretic, hexen and doom, but when I played quake I loved it, the reason? its new engine, john carmack did an excellent job, and did real 3d maps, besides you could play the campaing in cop mode, i dont remember if another game could do that, after that i hated id software cause in Quake 2 changed the story and the characters, they put stroggs instead of fiends, shamblers, zombies, etc. It was so sad. Pay attention little friends, Quake is a classic. (sorry for my english)

@TheOsirus : you could play co-op through the campaign in doom II as well. I can't remember if you could in the original doom, I was only 11 when doom II's full release came out, and it was right around when my family got their first PC.

Not the one that really started the 3d craze but it was defo the first one with true 3d dimensions. I loved it when it came out. I had the first beta release on floppy disks :P

I find it funny how Trent Reznor composed the music and effects (dont quote me on effects such as jumping but it does sound like him after learning he made the music). What I just noticed was that on the ammo box's, say pause at 1:18 you see CLEARLY on the side it's writte "NIN". A Nine Inch Nails reference perhaps? Nice playing, classic game. One of my favs.
