  • very cool!!! :) love the break!

  • Just saw her for the first time this morning on Paladia... beautiful voice... great song!!

  • Just saw her on Paladia this morning for the first time... amazing!!!

  • This is a good song. My dad showed it to me!

  • AMEN to MATTNMISSY!!!

  • best song ever

  • If the music industry made any since at all, Mindy Smith would be a superstar!

  • share this with everone you KNOW.

  • Someone suggested a snuggie to help Mindy Smith with the blanket problem. Must have been a different channel...

  • Very Powerful. Really beautiful song. I like this and will try out some more Mindy Smith stuff.

  • She's a Knoxville girl, and yes, she wrote it. This song has got me through more than one bad week. LOVE IT!!!

  • I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is!!

  • @MATTNMISSY Very profound, never thought of that before :)

  • very nice.. very powerful..

  • Whew... i didnt know who this girl was until about 5 minutes ago. She is a powerful singer, and if she wrote this song then i will most assuredly be listening to more... sounds like the makings of a Great Storyteller....

  • This is a great song and is so true. I love that we can come to Jesus and let Him hold us in His arms.

  • go Mindy go.. go Jesus go.. what a great song..

  • this is a great song

  • I don't see what you mean by saying it sounds dark and sarcastic. It's about Jesus being there for you during hard times. I love this song, especially this Mindy Smith version.

  • Hi IHeartAtx, you're right; most of Smith's music is dark. This song is discussing how when life doesn't seem to be worth living, there is a place to turn. That's pretty dark, but also redemptive.

As for the sarcasm you think you perceive, she is actually deadly sincere here. And, if you listen to more of her music, you'll realize the sarcasm you believe you are perceiving is not there. She can be ironic (like when she sings a song to Satan about how he pretends to love her then betrays her).

  • This is such an awesome song from an amazing debut album. The message in this song is right on. Believe and you will find a friend that will never abandon you or forsake you.

  • Not a "believer," but I love this song...

  • I danced to this several years ago, I'm so glad I found it!!

  • Jesus is the only way you can make through life because thats face it life is hard and we shoudn't have to deal with things alone

  • lov it

  • i love this song sooooo much!!!!! but i dont realy know what she says lol but i love it

  • great song love it

  • Please know that I am not trying to push anything on you...just maybe something to think about. Because we are all accountable for our own actions. The thing that a lot of people forget about is that God gives us all Free Will, and he will not interfer with that until the time of your passing. Then we all have to answer to Him. I just hope that maybe you will just think about it!

  • The Nails didn't hold Jesus to the Cross...Love Did!!

  • God never promised that this journey called life, would be easy. He did promise that if you ever need him, he will be there! He will test your faith! Remember that faith is not believing that he can...it is knowing that he will. Jesus was born, lived, died, and was Resurrected on this Earth. He went to the cross willingly, because he knew we were incapable of a sin free life! Would anyone die for a family member that you loved so much...I believe that most of us would!!

  • I guess my question would be to any non-believers...What do you have to lose?

  • I would hate to be the one on this journey called life, and when I die, saying to myself..."It's true, It's true, he is real, and he does love me...BUT... I never loved or believed in him!! OUCH!! I want him to say to me..."Well done my child, well done!"

  • Powerful, beautiful, true.

  • can you all just get a grip over your stupid caddy fights and shut the hell up?

    thanks.

  • Believe what you want, don't push it on me. I won't push my lack of religion on you. At least Evolution is proven to a point, creationism is just a thought.

  • 50% chance of hell.50% not. Your choice.

  • I'm not extremely religious, but this morning when I awakened I could not get Jesus out of my mind. I don't know what triggered the thought; it might have been a dream. Whatever it was, I got ready for work feeling a bit out-of-body, and a bit changed. I found myself praying for world peace. Call me odd, but this was haunting, and it was real.

  • So beautiful. Well done...

  • I find it interesting that this song was used in Twist a gay oliver twist film. The film was pretty good and this song used in the context of that film might be slightly different than what you think you know. I like how it is different. Do you?

  • love her, also love her doing Jolene

  • MINDY ......Beautiful...Amen !!!!!!!

  • What is with you? It is not about you.

It is apparent you do not have children or have any RESPECT for anyone who does.

A great and beautiful song for any mother and child. I'm glad you won't have any!!!!

    ob

  • why is everyone so caught up with religion and meaning of this? this girl is so sexy, thats what i wanna talk about!

  • Ohh come on that was not nice...

  • the reason why is because if you never come to JESUS then you will never see the light of this life!

  • I love this song! Used to have the video on tape and would watch it over and over, too bad the picture is blurry on here. I'm so glad I remembered this song and looked it up

  • I remeber listening to it over and over when I was little, now I can sing it perfectlly. Awesome song!

  • Love this song - can listen over and over!

  • One of my fave songs ever

  • OMG when I first discovered this in 05 I think, I instantly fell in love with it. Beautiful song. The emotions get me everytime.

  • Beautiful Saviour!

    Beautiful Song!

    Beautiful Girl!:)

  • Just keep singing about Him,OK? Not matter what people say!

  • Nice! Eternal love forever despite our ship wrecking ways!

  • I heard it on Bob Harris country and assumed it was Julie Miller. Love it!

  • Very Krauss-esque. I'm an ahteist, but a good song.

  • are U really ? i'm sort of 'tween religions as my mom is lapsed Catholic + my dad is Unitarian and i also trust in logic, numbers, and Science.

    Karen : )

  • If your father is a Unitarian Universalist there is a chance he is an atheist, as many UUs are secularists and attend a UU church because they commonly enjoyed church socially, just not religiously. The mother's side of my family was Catholic, but they've not been practicing since I've been six or seven. You should definitely discuss theology with your father, and come to your own conclusions on matters of 'god.' Stay rational and good-willed.

  • He would probably describe himself as a Secular Humanist... probably so would my mom possibly i would too.

    Personally i believe in Fairies : )

  • I believe we are all worm food when we die, Evolution is correct if we all came from Adam and Eve we would all look like inbred hillbillies. Fairies probably exist more than an some other things.

  • How do you know what Adam and Eve looked like. Maybe the way we look is because we are all inbred from the same two people.

  • and your the runt the litter.....

  • whether you believe it or not..

    He exists, through everything.

    it's not hard to believe.

    I LOVE YOU MINDY!

  • Sure he may have existed but people were a lot more gulliable then. But I just really can't stand the religious right.

  • It should be. If you don't even challenge your own faith, it isn't faith. It's worthless blind obedience. Like the nazis.

  • How is my faith blind? I questions anything and everything about it, I am not easy to please. When I truly seek I find.

  • thats the most retarded thing ive ever read.

the definition of faith is belief without proof. all faith is blind.

  • Evolution has not really been proven yet, and actually Adam and Eve were not really related in Earths sense. Also their offspring did not have the diseases and such that we have today. The world was not as contaminated. Also even if they interbreed, there would be an only 1-3 % chance more then a normal non-related couple of having children that were mutant. Congratulations, you may be inbred!

  • @LG1412 that's because they were so close to perfection hell Noah was 600 some years old and Methusela was the oldest person ever.

  • Never forget the truth and the way... BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO BELIVE WITHOUT SEEING... You could never explain or scientifically understand the love of our savior... it was given at a price so that we may be free. Blessings to you

    forhelives

  • I'm not very religious these days either and I still love this song.

  • I have never heard of Mindy Smith until one day I mis-typed in a few letters and there she was... I think it was a GOD thing cause her words gave me great comfort that day... and now I am a huge fan of hers.

  • The Lord works in mysterious ways. :)

  • Yes he does... thanks

  • i have perfect pitch.

  • <3 This song.

  • Oh so haunting...thank you. Come see my Christmas song...snowflake blessings.

  • amazing song, very beautiful.

On a side note I once heard an ok country cover of Gotta Knock a Little Harder, i would like ot her her cover it, she definately has teh voice for it.

  • this song is'nt long enough!! i love this song and her voice........if the lord dont let her to his home .....with the lords grace.....i will!!no angel should be turned away!!!

  • Perfect pitch is when you can recognize the exact pitch of a note you hear (like C sharp). The bass player of my band has perfect pitch. However, he cannot sing for toffee. I, on the other hand, have only relative pitch. But I can sing perfectly 'in tune'. That's why I'm the singer and he's the bass player!

  • this song has always stuck with my since I first heard it

  • i first heard this song a few years back and even though i see absolutley no religous meaning in this song i still think it's phenominal. this girls voice is pure talent and i wish her the best throughout her careeer

  • Excellent singer! I love Olivia Newton-John and Dolly Parton, this singer is right up there with them. Perfect pitch and a great voice and memorable beautiful voice. Mindy Smith deserves to be at the top of charts and on every country radio station. That's a fact!

  • Mindy Smith has perfect pitch?

  • sunshinegirl1967, that means Mindy Smith sings her notes perfectly in key. While many singers tend to lose track of a few notes, great singers like Mindy and Dolly sing every note perfectly.

  • Hi Olivia, I didn't know Mindy had perfect pitch. I have perfect pitch also and usually can tell when I hear it in others. For example Debby Gibson, Michelle Branch, Loreena McKennitt, and so on...

Maybe the reason I didn't catch it this time is, for once, I was focusing more on the song as a whole - which is beautiful and profound - than on the individual notes being hit dead center.

  • That's actually not what perfect pitch means.

"Perfect pitch, is the ability to identify the frequency or musical name of a specific tone, or, conversely, the ability to reproduce a frequency, frequency level, or musical pitch without comparing the tone with any objective reference tone, i.e., without using relative pitch."

  • jmathisfamily - Ok. I've heard Olivia and Dolly sing acapella and hit every note precisely. I've not heard Mindy sing without music. She may not have perfect pitch, but on this song and all her other songs I've heard by her, she is right on the money. Her notes are very clear and clean.

  • Possessors of perfect pitch exhibit the ability in varying degrees. Generally, perfect pitch implies some or all of the following abilities:

-Identify and name individual pitches (e.g. A, B, C#) played on various instruments

-Name the key of a given piece of tonal music

-Identify and name all the tones of a given chord or other tonal mass

-Sing a given pitch without an external reference

-Name the pitches of common everyday noises such as car horns

  • Olivia, my searches haven't turned up anything regarding Mindy Smith having perfect pitch. Did you read this in a magazine?

By the way, having perfect pitch doesn't mean you will never hit a sour note; believe me I wish this were true. My mom can hear when others sing off key, but she either can't tell or can't correct her own off-key singing. Also, I've heard singers with relative pitch who have excellent pitch delivery. Still, Mindy did a great job in this song.

  • That made me smile. The best part is that the whole thing's true! :)

  • Amen.

  • Great tune. Great lyrics. Some of the comments are quite humorous. It's amazing and hilarious how this little song by this little 100 lbs girl are so threatening to some. LOL.

  • You're telling me jbs1963! You should see the offensive comments I had to delete!

  • @jbs1963 the power of love is threatening to some.

  • GREAT

  • Hey, I met Mindy right before she had her cd release party and got to hang with her. If you knew the story of her life then you would know nobody's talking about eternal torment, she's talking about finding some love and peace here on this stone we're all rolling round on and some relief from the pain, fear and loneliness. Jesus has nothing to do with Hell, just forgiveness and love and I'm a pagan by the way and that Jewish Hippie Dude is cool with me.

  • I love this, and was drawn to the rocking sound if it first and foremost. But I'm not afraid to say: Come to Jesus. We could all use a little of Him in these troubled days.

  • i saw this video once like three years ago on the late night videos they play on vh1 and never forget it

i think its proof of genius

    but thats just me

  • this is a very raw song i love it she put a lot of heart into it

  • This is the most played song on my iTunes!!!

Come to Jesus and let Him hold you in His arms!

  • the tunning is 1st and 6th strings to D capo 1. Main riff is D7 with 1st st. open hammeron 3rd fret 2nd st. Other chords: A7 A7sus,Ami7, G/B

    (2nd fret 5th st). C sus 2nd(C chord let go 2nd finger. Most of song is C, G/B, D7th with 1st st open(called D7 no 3rd.

  • Amen. Brothers and Sisters.

  • this song ministers to me,

goin thru hard times the lyrics

    r comforting!

  • I heard this song on CMT about 3 1/2 years ago and then...POOF! It was gone. I was so fuckin' pissed!

  • This is a really interesting song. As a non-Christian I find it slightly sinister. In particular the sentiment that "when you're dying you'll understand" seems vaguely threatening. I also think the instrumentation reinforces this feeling. It's interesting to see how many people here get a purely positive message from the it- Being capable of such wide interpretation is a sign of a good song I think.

  • I think YOU are slightly (or more than slightly) sinister! You WILL understand someday---whether you find it threatening, sinister, (blah, blah) or not.

  • See, your attitude is exactly what I hear in the song. I'm not the one threatening people with eternal torment, so you may want to think about planks and eyes a bit but really you're probably just going to go on being a self righteous creep so that's cool too I guess.

  • So it is written. So let it be done.

  • Ezek 23:20

  • I could be wrong about what Mindy meant here, but I interpret the line "here in heaven you will finally understand..." this way:

"For now we know in part, but then, face to face..." and, "we will know, even as we are known..." I believe that's from I Cor. 13 or 14 (?), not sure though.

  • That's an interesting take on it. I hadn't thought it could be seen as sinister, but like you said- interprativeness (is that a word?) is a good thing.

  • This song is probably one of my favorites now...And I don't think it will sink below anything but excellent. Mindy Smith's soothing voice makes this song sweet but strong, and the message is amazing. We need to take some time and get away from the "bang bang booty" kind of music and listen to this song, breezy as a summer's day and light as a feather. 5 stars all the way!

  • I love her voice it pulls you into the air like a feather and blows you around.

  • i love this song. makes me want to cry every time i listen to it. it's simply amazing. makes me believe there really is a god out there

  • I adore this song. Out of all her music this is my favorite.

  • She is amazing!

  • luv her songs. i aint got like 'no' religion but i and connected sumhow?? to her music.

  • Always loved this song when we sing it at Sunday Contemporary Service... so beautiful and touching, and it speaks to my weary, grey-world-worn soul...

Now, if only we had someone to play banjo in the band for when they play the song! =P

  • i love this song and her chilling voice ,,sing it mindy

  • I have three sons and two daughters and this song makes me think of them...it reflects my prayers and thoughts for them.

  • This Video Is So powerful!

It brings me to tears, The comfort of it is astonishing. I could Feel The Love of Jesus upon me so strongly. I love god so much right now. Thank you so much for brining this upon us never Have i appreciated the lord as much as i do at this moment.

  • I'm not even Christian and this song always almost makes me cry, it's just SO beautiful!

100.3 in LA is playing it, but they never say who did it. I'm glad I did some research and found out. Amazing song!

  • My father had just died, it was a long painful death. I believe this song IS about when your that sick & in that much pain, that Jesus IS there, especially up to the last minute of your life and that you should take comfort in knowing that he'll be there for you in Heaven as well. I have never taken a look at the words of this song till just before my father had died, and this song did bring me comfort.

  • I love this song

  • she deserves mainstream stardom.

  • Thanks God for this beautiful angel taking us to heaven

  • you say that all the time dude.....

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • This song is so great ....it really moves you...thanks.

  • I love the song, but this is one wierd-ass video o___o Did anyone understand what the video was about?

  • I think it was about being so down on your luck and giving that over to Jesus.

But I'm not sure. I'd like to hear what others think.

  • We sometimes need to be brought down in order to look up.God doesnt force himself on anyone but He:s proven His love to mankind by providing His son as a sacrifice for our sins.

  • the video is about the emptiness you feel without having Jesus in your heart. Material things in life won't give you happiness and they take away from your relationship with Christ. The video is basically showing that without the fullfillment of His love you are empty. empty is kinda my theme for it apparently. lol sorry

  • It's a psalm of unswerving faith in Jesus and God's eternal and abiding grace and forgiveness. And I'm a Buddhist but my sister who taught me the true value of faith was a "dyed in the wool" Baptist so she gave me the gift of belief although different from her own.

  • Bought the CD (One moment more) Around the time it came out. The video to this song is brilliant. I thought they stopped making good video's in the 80s

  • Certain songs touch on the very essence of struggle - this one "nails" it.

  • Is she a country artist ?

    or is this Indie ?

  • Country artiste!

  • wow. this song was so cool the first time i heard it. it just popped in my head and i had 2 look it up. amazing music.

  • Mindy's talent leaps mountains while posers like Madonna leap toilets.

Thats why people are turning off Hollywood and turning on the net.

mainstream media is dead, but its carcass still reeks.

  • just ignore anna nicole. some of us know what real. thanks for posting.

  • Wow, what a wonderful song. Man, and even better she writes her music. It's too bad that more people haven't heard of her.
