Channel 11 in NY was actually always WPIX. Even when it became affiliated with the WB network which changed into the CW network. It's still WPIX now, though they call it PIX11 since it sounds cooler. WPIX is just the Station ID. Just like how Channel 5 is still WNYW (you can still see it often at the corner of the screen).

It was the station letters for channel 11 in the New York area. Its since changed to the WB and now its PIX11
