The technicians in charge didn't check all the parts thoroughly before the launch. What a terrible tragedy.Maybe the worst part was the students who witnessed their teacher die right there in the sky.
xxviciousbeautyxx and ZzRvXzZ are banned. i have had enough of your arguments. this is not a forum for your petty childish ways. if people want to argue extensively outside of the subject matter presented, take it to personal messaging.
@BleachBrothers08 partially true. the freezing weather caused the o-ring in the right solid rocket booster to fail leading to the hot gases leaking through and burning through the main external fuel tank igniting the liquid oxygen & liquid hydrogen leading to the catastrophic explosion. Shuttle engineers and engineers that made the external tank and boosters warned NASA managers it was unsafe to launch and said the o-rings will fail in freezing weather.
@ZzRvXzZ Um first of, do you really need to disrespect someone over a simple comment? I didn't say anything wrong and you're sitting there calling me names and telling me to go die? Seriously? You need to majorly grow up and be mature and respect people. So an explosion is no big deal then, that's what you're pretty much saying. You'd think he'd act a little more shocked and have a reaction. Why is Bieber being meantioned exactly? I can't stand him but thanks for your pointless comment
@ZzRvXzZ You know you're being pretty pathetic right? You're the one that whined to me because you simply didn't like my comment. I'm sorry you feel the need to call me a "sissy" because I actually feel for the people that fucking died. Obviously people dying in an exposion doesn't mean anything to you.
yes, it is because you're a little stupid and ignorant KID. quit whining, those guys are professional, only because they didn't cry or shout like a sissy it doesn't mean that they aren't human....
@ZzRvXzZ So now I'm stupid and ignorant? WOW someone must have issues and you like to vent on other people that did nothing to you. I'm 21 so no I'm not a kid but maybe you are since you are clearly acting like one with the childish insults (that's real adult like). I never once said they have to cry or shout did I? No, just because you are a professional doesn't mean you can't react towards something horrible. Still don't know what the hell your problem is.
@ZzRvXzZ You clearly don't get what I'm trying to say and once again you make absolutely know sense calling me a child when I did nothing at all and never ever said they had to go omg omg and so on. I like how you say poor bastards. Proves my point that you clearly didn't give a shit they were killed. What if it was your family? Whatever though because you don't understand. You're funny still calling me a child, YOU ARE THE ONE CALLING ME RIDICULOUS UNCALLED FOR NAMES. THAT IS CHILDISH.
@ZzRvXzZ My point is that you are the childish one since you feel you need to disrespect me over NOTHING and that obviously don't get what my original comment was about. I really hope you don't talk to your family the same way.
@ZzRvXzZ Don't believe I was "crying" but YES I think it's said they died. I actually have heart and care about other unlike you pretty much saying it's no big deal, so what people died.
@ZzRvXzZ You act like I'm 5 years old, I'm a damn adult and I'm not fucking stupid. It doesn't matter if their death was quick and painless, it's still upsetting that people lost their lives that didn't need to just like with all the other people that killed in the world or murdered. Are you happy about it? I would hope not. Again you are the one not understanding obviously, just leave it at that.
Why does everyone keep saying it must have been horrible for the people on board. When it was more likely they died instantly without the knowledge that anything was wrong.
Compare this to being stabbed in the belly and taking 5+ minutes to die or drowning. Knowing before you are going to die is much worse than dying without knowing
GOD DANG NASA THEY DONT UNDER STAND there sacrificing people for what SCIENCE we could of sent robots with cameras up there but NOO they want to do things the easy sacrifical way
@CameronHotspurs how old are you?.... seriously..... 7 good people were killed... how is that not tragic?.... Your practically saying that its not tragic when anyone dies from somthing they knew might happen.... "the recent japan disaster? not tragic... they knew that the island was prone to earth quakes....." "10 car pile-up? not tragic... they knew the risks when they got into the car.... "
Just because they knew the risks, dosnt make it any less tragic.
@Starbuckfsd No it's a disaster, but it isn't the worst thing to happen by miles, unless you take NASAs reputation into consideration. Not that mean people died.
@CameronHotspurs dude are you listening? what worse could happen to those astronauts? I'd think being blown up by a rocket and seared to death is the worst thing...
i was in a field on that day picking up stonesand putting themin my barra when this happened, ever since i just have to dance with my barra ,two worlds collide and lives were changed forever
@jonsadj7 A quote from then NASA manager Michael Hale in a documentary, "Oh that day we were ignorant, quite frankly; and we thought it was a good day to fly, but it wasn't."
Really? Engineers were begging NASA management not to launch. Even the manaufacturer of the boosters and main fuel tank were screaming not to launch. You'd think that giant icicles on the launch gantry would be a HUGE red flag. It in a way was like a can of soda in your freezer going off.
@yourjudgeandjury Did NASA ever say why they were so eagerly persistent to launch that day, despite the warnings? It continues to puzzle me why we wait to make safety and precautions a higher priority until AFTER something happens.
@discountbacon No they did not. One of the judges for the Teacher in Space program said that in a way it was a publicity stunt. The piece of information I dug up was that if NASA had to delay the launch yet again, the mission would then have to be delayed for several months. I think it was simply the fact they rushed to launch simply for the publicity for the Teacher In Space program.
Safety a higher priority until something happens is part of the mind set. It comes down to cost.
@yourjudgeandjury I think many of us should learn a big lesson from the Challenger; hopefully NASA has learned the most. The safety of their crew should be a priority above their research, and especially before any publicity. Thank you for sharing these videos with us. I'm subscribed.
The sad thing about what happened is that all that could have been prevented if NASA and the management team of the contractors of the booster rockets would have listened to their engineers. 7 ppl died for the almighty dollar.
@MrFrostedCookie Unfortunately many considered this a publicity stunt for NASA to launch a teacher into space to get the public interested in the space program again
