It's not a status quo, it's learning and adapting to continually changing circumstances and at the same time having enough time of your own to not wreck yourself (because if you do, you will also wreck the children's lives).
Why are you preaching to me? You should be telling Lionel Richie this. If his daughter is convicted of drunk driving, and he tells her... "it's okay, you're doing what a teenager is supposed to be doing." and gives her a slap on the wrist. I'm sorry, I have an issue with that.
