  • one of the most realistic modelrailways ive seen!!

  • I see there is one HIGHLY jealous person. Awesome layout!

  • freaking awsome video and layout man!!!!:D

  • Many people devote much time and effort into mitigating the damaging effects of time on their full scale contraptions.

The people who make miniatures of real life contraptions seem to embrace the imperfections bestowed by time, to the point where they will devote much time and effort into replicating that damage on their miniatures.

There is an interesting irony here, is there not?

  • That Big Boy is bad ass

  • i wish that Bigboy was hauling 130 cars today out on the UP mainlines

  • @shadowdemon46 you and me both

  • Love the detail in this layout. Great Job!!

  • My 7 year old son Jason says he likes your layout very much. His favorite scene is your California station area. Well done!

    Vincent Zablocki

  • Hi. I Am Starting My Own Model Railroad Layout From Scratch. I Have Some Trains That I have Collected Over the Years, But Never Really Got Started Building a Layout. What Are Some Ideas Or Tips You Could Give To Me About Making My first Affordable layout For My HO Trains??? Thanks for The Input! Your Railroad Layout Inspires me To Think And Build Big And never Stop Dreaming About My Layout And Add Ons. Thanks for Posting And Please Help me With Some Suggestions. Thanks! :)

  • Great.

  • Thank you for sharing your RR with us. Awesome job!

  • Is that Western Pacific locomotive based on a modern prototype?

I thought the W.P. went extinct decades ago.

  • awesome video cant wait to get mine going again been 5 years

  • You did an amazing job. I havent done model trains since I was a kid and my god how far things have come. Thanks for sharing your layout.

  • Hello

Which sound are you fitted in sound decoder in the Surfliner at min 12:30? It's wonderful

    Thanks

  • @SuperFrecciaNera Hi the Surfliner is fitted with a Soundtraxx Tsunami EMD 710 3rd Generation decoder. Thanks KCSroy

  • @KCSroy Hello. Which are the article number of this decoder?

    Thanks

  • @SuperFrecciaNera 828052 TSU-GN1000 EMD 710. Take a look at Soundtraxx's website, well worth a visit !

  • @KCSroy Thanks very much

  • @KCSroy Great Job

  • Greater Job!!

  • Very Cool stuff! It's OK to get older but that does'nt mean we have to grow up. Thanks for posting.

  • Beautiful layout, amazing workmanship and awesome detail. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!!!!

  • Very nice layout you have there, however I do have a comment on the UP coal train. Genset locomotives on the Union Pacific do not pull coal trains. Coal trains on the UP are generally pulled only with AC4400CW, SD90MAC, and AC6000 locomotives. Not being mean, just figured I would let you know.

  • I personally think that layout is a up to date layout and is prototipical which you as much really good details

  • is your layout dc or dcc? if DCC,what system do u use?

  • @nsfan4life Hi, thanks for your question, the layout is DCC and I use a Digitrax system.

  • Its looks so real and detailed you even got graffiti in the tunnel. You should try and mount the camera on the side of the train it would look awesome.

  • cool

  • I watched it again its still an awesome layout Steve

  • Great video and layout/ Enjoyed watching very much

  • Beautiful layout!

  • Perhaps the best layout I've ever seen! Thanks for sharing!

  • This is sweet! Awesome detail!

  • great layout that looks so real and acurategreat job!

  • I had to watch it again I like it but what is up with those squeaky Railbox cars they caused my ears to bleed LOL but its still a great layout why does'nt MR add it to their GREAT RAILROADS issues??

  • Youre layout looks absolutly great, superb details

  • Excellent scenery execution and nicely weathered rolling stock. Work on the camera shake.

  • Thanks Steve for your kind comments. Just a little weathering can make all the difference and adds so much.

  • One of the nicest vids of one of the nicest layouts on the tube you would be surprised at the number of modelers who run stack and z trains and dont weather their trailers or containers it makes such a difference to realism everything about the layout was just beautiful you're my kind of modeler "everything just right. I am looking forward to seeing more of your modeling. You're the Goods Steve

  • yuh realli have a good looking layout

  • were did u get thaat dunkin dounuts buildingim trying to model a frendilys

  • @bdrastal Hi, I built it from scratch with a few measurements taken of the prototype in Plymouth MA whilst on vacation. Just built on O scale one as well.

  • nice weahtering on all the cars

  • Agreed on the weathhering...spot on. Realistic yet subtle that does'nt detract from the details of the car. Chalk or Airbrush? One constructive comment. New England is a bit greener IMHO than the rest of the country. Unless it has'nt rained in awhile. Still in all I'm green with envy.

  • You're welcome. I fitted a Soundtraxx Tsunami in the Surfliner and one of those rectangular Bass Reflex speakers, a relatively easy install and well worth it.

  • Thank you for showing us your layout. An awesome sound on the Surfliner.

  • Thanks Scott, can't wait for my next vacation to the West Coast, it's been a couple of years. Another trip to Caliente is a must !

  • DAMN what a layout! This is by far the best I've seen. Keep up the great work. Love the west coast.

  • this is such an awesome layout, long bends through truly some of the best scenery I've ever seen. And the weathering on your cars is totally mint. Well done to you!

    Matt

  • I have to comment on this one. My Compliments to you on this layout If you have done these structures yourself Well My hats are off to you. Best I have seen in a modern day setting Newman

  • @ShrinehillRail Thanks Newman, yes all the structures that I made a point of filming were scratch built by myself, this is the most enjoyable part of building a layout for me together with the enjoyment of watching 'long trains' just running around the layout - I've never been one for 'switching'.

  • Yes I meant Dunkin Doughnuts.I used to go to Dunkin Doughnuts every day when I was growing up in Chicago. Now they are so expensive it's unbeleivable.I found a Dunkin Doughnuts in Columbia Tennessee 10 miles from my house.

  • Wher did you find it?i've been looking for one for years.

  • @cbnut81 Do you mean the Dunkin Donuts ? if so, I scratch built it from photographs and a couple of measurements taken on my visit to Plymouth last September.

  • WOW

Maybe the nicest modern day layout Ive seen. And Im from CA so Im partial to the Western theme. Amazing job!!!

  • @wmg33 Thanks for your kind comments. Watch out for some more videos in the coming weeks.

  • My goodness! As soon as I saw it, I had to leave a comment: Love your Pacific Parlour Car. If you don't mind, Who made it? & what details did you have to change if any? (Even tho I'm a 2 rail O Scale modeler, I feel compelled to ask since I've spent many hours riding aboard the real Parlour Cars)

  • @TrainDr101 the Parlour Car is from Overland Model Inc. I bought it a few years ago off ebay. I haven't changed anything about it - straight out the box onto the layout. I travelled on it back in 2007 from Emeryville to Seattle. Finding a model of it was a gem !

  • Can you tell me a little about your lighting. My lower level is going to be a challenge and I noticed how well lit your video was. Thanks.

  • @raillink2002 the whole layout is lit with fluorescent lighting, those on the lower level are 'link lights' as used for under kitchen cabinets - copy and paste the link below, find lighting then fluorescent lighting and you'll have a better idea.

    tlc-direct.co.uk

  • At 12:05, how did you get the train to "squel" around that curve? That sounds fantastic! You have a great layout! I'm looking forward to more.

  • @csxketh1 the "squel" wasn't intentional, it just materialised after I had painted the wheel sets of some of the cars, I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I've got used to it. Thanks for your comments, I'll be doing a couple more videos soon

  • BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT!I only hope someday I can build a layout I can be proud of.I liked the Dunkin Doughnuts restaurant and Radio Shack My favorite electronics store.

  • @cbnut81 Glad you liked the layout, the Dunkin Donuts is based on the one at 15 Main Street, Plymouth MA. My first taste of Dunkin Donuts - Boston Kreme rocks !!

  • What all of KCS do you model besides the Unit Grain Train

  • @damianbradley At the moment just the Unit Grain Train, though I do have quite a few KCS engines - I like the Southern Belle paint scheme. I tend to run what ever takes my fancy.

  • Nice looking layout, what did you use to make roads and streets with?

  • @tlbohlen The car park at Davis is made out of 2mm styrene sheet and all the other roads are made using Woodland Scenics products.

  • Are these SD70ACes MTH or Athearn Genesis Models? Nice Layout!

  • @MrSebifast The SD70ACes are all MTH and I'm very happy with their performance in DCC mode, had no problem with them what so ever. The Norfolk Southern SD70M-2 is an MTH as well. Glad you enjoyed the 'tour' !

  • Thanks very much for the great layout tour, as a fellow CFNR modeler, I loved seeing your GP15's in action, I'm guessing these are Athearn Genesis models , custom painted and decalled, or were these commercial models painted as is, as if so, I will have to start hunting the net for a pair. :-) Cheers! Koos

  • How did you build the Davis depot? I'm planning on building the same, and got PDF drawings from the city of Davis sent. I'm modeling the CFNR with Davis included. I'm also in the UK (devon). Cheers!

    Koos

  • @k2kkoos I spent the morning there a couple of years ago taking as many photos as I possibly could, took several measurements ie height and width of the main arches etc, then when I got home I set too with AutoCad and drew up the plans. Overall it took best part of 4 months to complete - did the same with the Tower. Roy

  • Do you have any steam locomotives?

  • @bwan13 I have three steam locomotives, all MTH - a GS-4, a UP light Mikado and a UP Big Boy.

  • Great layout & detail.

  • Impressive! A job well done... and done well!

  • Fantastic! Love all the scenes, I think you captured each area beautifully! Can't wait to see more.

  • Love the gensets

  • Great Layout I'm building an Unit KCS Grain train myself. Got the ACe,T55 KCS ES44 I did and a few others

  • WOW THATS A BIG LAYOUT! GREAT JOB AND VIDEO!

  • Where did you get that Pacific Parlour car?

  • @apl1031 as with so much these days good 'old ebay', about 4 years ago.

  • I've wanted to build a pacific parlor high level so bad...

  • @BoeingNerd I wish someone would make one. I just need the parlour for my consist

  • Very Nice, The scenery looks great!!!

  • That is a NICE layout!! The depot @ Davis is a great replica of the real one!! The first time I saw your first vid I thought is the real one! What kind of palm trees are you using they look very realistic........keep making these vids!!

  • @espee1976 Thanks for your kind comments. The palms are from a store in the UK, but I think you can get them elsewhere they are made with war gamers in mind as opposed to model railroaders. The guy has a web site - just type 'the model tree shop' into google. For some reason I can't get the link into this message.
