personally, i like it. it's a DREAM SEQUENCE. the one point in the whole film/musical where bloom is fantisizing in his "Dream World" where he doesnt have to be socially awward.. etc.
as for the tempo, sure maybe a bit too slow, but his voice is excellent,
I completely agree. And his attitude is completely wrong. From the beginning of the song he's all cheeky and smiles. Leo's supposed to start out the song kind of with a sigh- more hopeful, not so darn happy yet. Then once he starts dancing with the girls he gets giddy and excited. This guy is NOT a good Leo Bloom...
this is THE WORST Leo Bloom, out of anyone that Ive seen. I saw Broderick 5 times on Broadway, then in the movie, (I was overly dissapointd with the movie, as i watched it more i became more ok with it) Lee Evans twice in London. Then I saw Roger Bart, who originated the role of Carmen Ghia on Broadway, with Brad Oscar as Bialystock, who originated the role of Franz Liebkin on Bway, those two were after Lane and Broderick, before the y came back on Bway in 2004 and then did original roles again.

I am 16 years old. I saw the producers with lane and brod. in 2001, 1 time ( i was 9.) Then in 2004 I saw them 4 times after their return to Bway. (One time it was an understudy for Nathan.) My mom lives in London, and my dad lives in New Jersey. So before you go, accusing and being an ass, stop and think.
Austin's not a Broderick impressionist; he's better. How can you possibly judge his performance from this one clip? Austin Owen pleased over a half a million people with his Leo. Why don't you go trash Tony Danza or something?
I saw this live and it was AMAZING. When Leo and Max where spinning, Leo's pocket protector flew out of his pocket and hit an orchestra member in the back of the head...
I know him he is really nice ! BUT idina didnt replace stephanie at the last minute she didnt replace her at all ! Stephanie was Idinas understudy in the work shops and they offeed her the position of standby on broadway but she turned it down for Boy from oz !
He is so good! I had the priviledge of helping with this amazing production when they stopped at Portsmouth,Ohio. I'm a student at Shawnee State University, where they performed, and everybody was amazing! Austin Owen was incredible! Everybody did an amazing job!
Actually, Austin Owen was out with an injury when the show was in Portsmouth. He was home recovering and the Leo that you saw (who also does very well) was played by understudy Matthew Wade.
Aw I love Austin Owen. I'm so glad he's doing well. I think he and Broderick both gave very different performances, but I like them both. Austin's a magnificent performer though. He's got a BEAUTIFUL voice which you can't hear as much here because he's doing a character voice...but...oh man, he's got a beautiful voice.
Austin Owen absolutely kills Broderick. Matthew was cast for his ticket-selling power.
Besides, you cannot make a judgement in 56 seconds taped just days after opening night. The show happens to be 2 hours and 22 minutes (not including intermission)
Ya, but he sounds so rich, classy, and sophisticated. Mathew is more like Leo because he sounded annoying and stupid which is what Leo Bloom exactly is. Mathew fits the character more both in his performance and real life. I can do a better performance than Austin. I don't have as good of a voice but I do fit the character more.
He doesn't play it a stupidly as Matthew. This one is more sophisticated, which makes it funnier. Matthew gets annoying within the first two minutes of him onstage.
I'm seeing the show later today, but I can jus tell by the clips I've seen.
I've seen the movie, and Matthew clips. It's annoying.
Yeah I saw it with Tony Danza as Max and Roger Bart as leo and it was much better than this guy but if was with Nathan Lane and Roger Bart that would have been the BEST!
He's got an adorable voice but he looks too old. Leo is supposed to be young and boyish.

If only i could find Alan Ruck in this damn show... Agreed, the tempo is way too slow! Did the orchestra fall asleep?

where is this from? it's so high quality. is there a producers filmed tour dvd? i need to know.

I don't understand why so many people describe Leo as being nerdy. He's an accountant, yes, but he really isn't NERDY.
Also, Leo isn't a bumbling fool.
He's neurotic, naïve, and timid. There's a difference.

Your argument does not have evidence to back it up, so it's just a rant and rave of someone who is probably jealous

it all comes down to character performance. This guy playing Leo is like Tom Hanks playing Homer Simpson.

How does matthew have a ticket-selling power?
orca1142 4 years ago
He was a star for 20 years before the show came out.
retrop75 4 years ago 3
SO hes more famous? Is that how he sells tickets?
orca1142 4 years ago
Yes, more people are going to want to see the ore famous person. Surely that's not hard to understand.
retrop75 4 years ago 2
I see. Oh Yeah they did the same thing with Idina menzel in wicked too. She replaced the SJB at the last minute.
orca1142 4 years ago
I think Matthew is better. He has more character to his voice and he is suppose to sound stupid because the character is a cowardly loser.
Strangeloveonbway 4 years ago 2
