Truly beautiful. So haunting - guitarists love him for his technical skills as well as his unparalleled grasp of dynamics. Loved him since hearing 'The Final Peace' as a 12-yr-old schoolboy. Beck moves me like no other player.
Then go back to "Beck-Bogart and Appice--He was playing a Les Paul and he used a guitar pick back then-fascinating. There will never be another Jeff Beck-not even close-Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are great but Jeff Beck is Jeff Beck. No one can touch him.
Jeff Beck is the best--I've been playing for 45 years and he boggles my mind-It is virtually impossible to mimick him-his harmonic knowledge is unsurpassed-His use of the volume control and tremolo is nothing short of amazing.
@TheOldcountryboy I have to say that I agree with everybody here in that this song is absolutely beautiful and Jeff is one of the greatest and most tasteful guitar masters of all time... but who is he who should not be named?
For those who haven't seen it, check out Jeff's 'Live at Ronnie Scotts' DVD. Unmissable. Shit, now I'M crying as well! No other guitarist, not even McLaughlin, gets to me like Beck does.
I noticed in JB's comments about each song in the "Emotion and Commotion" CD's notes, he says of this song "it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written", and he does a beautiful version of it here.
I remember watching a video live at ronnie's place I think. I was blown away, people are too buisy with Steve Vai and Joey Satch that they are missing out on this... this god.
vai, timmons, hendrix, johnson, clapton, santana, satch and so on and so forth, there is a couple of supernatural guitar players. However, jeff beck is my favourite amongst them
All i can do here is leave a comment, click the like button, and give this video a view; but I really wish this man could grasp what we all think of his talent. It is immaculate. I loved this.
unbelievable, the melody he produces with that wicked tone... and this cover is amazing!! So glad, tho this is my first time listening to him, that Ive finally been able to hear what ive been missing out on
@chungamok I don't want to get into an argument here, but in my opinion, hendrix will always be the greatest electric guitarist ever! he was the first person to properly use distortion, feedback, effects, and every guitarist since then wouldn't be able to play the way they do without Hendrix! now, Jeff is obviously more technically skilled, no questions asked, but Hendrix wasn't that technical to begin with, but if it wasn't for Hendrix, I doubt Beck would be playing the way he does now :L
Jeff Beck is godly! he is in his own realm of guitar awesomeness, that cannot be matched. He makes his guitar sing. What a beautiful take on the song.
@FreedomZealot Agreed. It's not often a guitar player comes along and invents his own personal technique, that's both emotional AND technical. Jeff Beck is simply astonishing.
@Alkali64 Thanks for saying that...tried to explain that about his album There & Back on another video. His songs evoke emotions in me and that doesn't happen a lot for me with modern instrumental guitar albums...as whole albums. It's like listening to Beethoven's piano concertos...they're emotional not just technical virtuosity. Why that doesn't happen w/ all guitarists, I don't know.

@15viceandvirtues wow what an excellent comment 'are these even notes anymore?'
what a cool way of stating it
jb has gone beyond mere notes it seems
the artist in a space none can inhabit but himself
the audience watches from outside and in awe
