i built tons of nukes and then this. One of the ai won and passed no nukes but i could still nuke my enemies. (playing as germany. russia was at war with me.)

The UN does nothing in Civ V. [Insert 'Just like real life' joke] I liked it better in Civ IV. The videos were also pretty cool.

Because making them takes a loooong time.

As a Graphic artist it almost felt painful seeing all the effort that went into making something so complex that is yet only seen for a few seconds of the game.

The new images do the job and the work is trivial by comparison.

Instead the artist's time has now instead been spent on improving character models, battle animations, city models, terrain and such. A far better usage of the artist workforce if you ask me.

@RedMattis I do accept the argument that the videos are intrinsically too short for that much effort....then fine put portraits for the Landmarks and make bigger 6-10 minute proper, skippable cutscenes for each of the victory types.

I remember that my first ever win was being elected as Secretary General of the UN as the Chinese. I then celebrated by nuking the capitals of all the other factions! And the UN did nothing- just like in real life!

the more of the strange story is- you are able to hold the majority of votes in UN elections :D one time I´ve got around 80% of votes total (I have to admit, I cheated by using world builder to get around 80% of the population, though). First I made it impossible for others to build nuclear weapons, as long as I finished every technology and after repealing the ban of nuclear weapons I fired over 200 of those missiles :D besides this, I think Civ is a game, that comes close to human development

have you gotten the land as well? you only mentioned population so thats what i assumed. You do not have to be in a state of peace in order to win. I played America and was kicking Babylons butt when they told me I won. So I am not sure beyond that.

1. Make sure you have the largest population and/or be the first to build the UN.

2. Vote for yourself to become the leader of the UN.

3. Get the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty and approve.

4. When they ask you what resolution do you want to get passed next, simply choses no resolutions.

5. Get yourself elected again and keep on picking no.

6. The world becomes a 'no nuke zone'.

You know you can play a custom game, and disable diplomatic victory, you will still be able to build UN. By the way I do agree, the AI likes to spam build tactical nukes and then uses them like crazy, then it causes a runaway global warming effect...annoying...

You can access World Builder, go into Edit City Mode, and place the UN in a city without the Diplomatic Victory being enabled.

1. Use worldbuilder for the entire game.

2. Build the UN building.

3. If used correctly, worldbuilder should have given you over 2000 points more than the next highest, so you should win by a landslide.

I think that, before you build UN, you should actually start wars and wipe out a couple of civilizations with a help from others civs which should be your allies. By the time you build the UN, most of the civs remaining should be your allies who will be friendly and vote for you. That's how I've done it, but I hate the UN victory. It's boring.
