okay i got the series 2 dvd, watched the interveiw and YES he did do it and i quote "it is actually me up there" he jumps off a roof onto a smaller roof and then they hook him into a crane and drop him "it was bloody fast" QUOTE HE DID JUMP HE SAID IT HIMSELF!

@tinybesto Yes Benedict did this stunt himself, it wasn't a stunt double. He said so in an interview from not long ago. :)

Benedict is a true performer & I respect him tremendously. It doesn't surprise me at all that he did this stunt himself. He gets into his character & authenticity seems very important to him. He's not those preened and babied Hollywood types. During tech. rehearsal they might have used the stunt double to make sure that the equipment functioned properly so Benedict would have been safe, but for the actual performance they used him. I study Broadcasting in University so I know about this stuff.

If youve slowed down the recording of the real episode like Ive done and zoomed in on the face its Benedict. The stunt guy is the person standing on top of Barts. Where there's no chance of any safety protection. Its where Watson is looking up at him.

Cumberbatch is far too excited about the stunt in the behind the scenes video for him not to have done the stunt. He's mega excited. He says he did a bit at the top then it cuts to him for the 70 foot fall. The stunt man would have done the part just as you see them go over the top. or indeed just practice the stunt to make sure it was safe for Cumberbatch to do it. I suspect the photo of someone else is a safety run through.

Actually it was Benedict. he mentions it in detail on the behind the scenes video. Once he says he jumped off the smaller roof he goes onto say "then it cuts to me on a wire dropping 70 feet onto a massive inflated bag. Fast not terminal velocity but ....... its pretty bloody fast". watch the interview its called sherlock uncovered part 2 on you tube

I would shit myself if I had to do that...but I would probably do it anyways. How many times in your life would you get the chance to be suspended from the top of a 3-story building from a crane, just to be dropped onto an inflatable green bag below, with only the cable attaching you to the crane keeping something from going wrong?

It was not Benedict doing that stunt. He sad so himself in an interview, that he only did fall from a rooftop to 1m below and that it was him lying on the street. But this fall was done by a stuntman.

@romangirl88 It wasn't him, I'm afraid; their stunt doubles are so good that Martin and Benny had been known to start rehearsing lines with them before realising it wasn't really their partner.

@Coseepo On this occasion it was him. The stunt men are there and do prepping but watch Benedict discuss it at length on blacknarcissa you tube channel. He was very excited about it.
