For those that didn't know, this fight scene was originally meant to only last about 20 seconds (script), but Carpenter let the cameras keep rolling, now while the blows to the head, face and nuts are all staged, the majority of the fight was actually real, this most likely explains the whole hitting the car and saying sorry. Now for those that don't believe, do some research on this film and give it a watch.

This is good street-fighting. All the tricks were used... even biting and picking up weapons like the board and the broken bottle. All can happen in a real street fight. Very practical. Although neither would be able to take this much punishment including body slams, repeated blows to the head and a head butt to the face. The four knees in the nuts definitely couldn't happen. If you're into martial arts, give this fight a look.
