I agree, ofcourse. A turbo 4 or 6 will always have /some/ lag at lower rpm. I live near a dragstrip, in a city that is mostly dominated by muscle, so having a turbo car is very fun right now because it's unique, and also VERY cheap to get power from compared to most NA V8s in the same price range as my DSM. I don't argue against either domestic of import. I love them both. Personally, my dream car is a 2001 Firebird WS6 LS1 w/ an HX40 Holset and meth injection ;)

@Kyzashin The technology is solid but if you haven't driven a big displacement car then you have no room to talk. An old 440 cubic inch muscle car from Chrysler is considerably more fun to drive than a turbo Civic etc. And all those small CC engines don't make ANY torque, nor do they make power until very high revs. I can punch the throttle in my 302 powered Mustang from 1,000 rpm and instantly blow the tires off. There is no waiting, it's instant power and gobbs of torque.

I've driven my dad's 454 Chevelle, and while I'm not into burning away money on pointless burnouts(not a red neck. and yes, I know it's about having the ability to do it), I have to say the feeling of instant torque is, for me, just as fun as feeling my DSM at 3000 rpm go from a sluggish economy car to a 12 second awd street car in a second. And there is no waiting if you know how to drive it right. Drive what you love! :)
@Deathryuu A DSM is a step above the other stuff. It's American designed for one, and it's AWD so traction is not an issue. If the turbo(s) are sized right there may not be any lag, but it still doesn't change the fact that even the Eclipse can't make 300 lb/ft of torque right off idle. The quickest turbo car I drove was a friend's gutted Honda Civic DX hatch (basically a CRX) with a modified B20B on 11 lbs with a relatively big turbo. The car weighed under 2000 lbs and put down 325whp.
@Kyzashin Because muscle cars dont need all the tech work done. Yeah imports can have as much power, it's simple for someone who owns an American muscle. Im not trying to disrespect imports. I have a 97 R33 that can kick ass but. I also have a lot of tech setup in my car. But like a b16 is only 2700cc and thats like a 150ci most muscle cars dont have that, for my opinion. I'd rather have American Muscle over Import.

Literally a diff turbo, port and polish and some other mods and its 400 HP to the crank. Not bad for an engine that is 20 years old and probably in a Spirit, Lebaron, Omni, Charger etc.

first thats not a sedan its a hatchback i own one it weighs 2200 lbs and in doing an engine swap you change all that it was an economy car now its a high performance sport compact the B and K series engines were designed for performance and their handling is insane with minor modifications there just about the cheapest cars to build and mantain as well

Handling good and torque steer do not go well together, not to mention weight shifts back in accel. And as for the cheapness to modify and such, they are still very removed from SBC cars and cars like 3rd Gen Mustangs (rear-drive, coupes under 2800# (factory), fastbacks under 2900#, multitude of V8s available, multitude of trannys available, multitude of rear ends available).

@CrackinVTEC666 You know what matters most on a car? The tires. It is those four tiny contact patches that supply traction to the vehicle. A rear drive vehicle with good tires with limited slip diff, or even better a locker, will go through most anything, regardless of what brand it caries. I am not a stang fanboy but I know enough that you can make them handle pretty damn well, even the Fox bodies. Steve Saleen had much success with them, as well as other in other racing series.

They actually had to use an older engine to qualify for the low displacement and power regulations. A race car that is probably slower than its street counterpart. 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. You will be hard pressed to find a streetable Honda quicker than 12 seconds. The N/A limit of that engine is not much more than a 2-3 hundred horsepower.

For one it has dual overdrive, two because it does not have to rev high like a four cylinder. 1600ish RPM in sixth while going 60-70 MPH. And i don't disagree with diesel statement. I would def own a 12v or 24v cummins.

@CrackinVTEC666 I have a love for cummins. My engineering degree is with an emphasis in manufacturing processes, and Cummins' manufacturing plants are insane when it comes to quality. They CMM (coordinate measuring machine. expensive ruby tipped, computerized measuring devise) every block even. They have tolerance for cylindricity and runout that are like .0001" and better. I'm sure others are similar now but I love cummins. I am ignorant of the p/u truck v8s and V6s cummins is supposed to have.
@DrifterB2W i go to school for diesel repair the thing cummins has is inline engines make more torque at low RPMs figure it like every powerstroke the crank turns 180 degrees inline engines produce more torque in that 180 degree turn then v8s do at low rpms because of the relative rod/crank angle during the stroke but when you tach up V8 diesels a little bit it equals out cummins is the first mass produced diesel engine they are deff one of the top condenders

@CrackinVTEC666 That is not the same thing. It always effects FWD more. It is basic physics. You ONLY have the traction of those front tires to utilize. In a front wheel drive car, that SAME TRACTION is used to accelerate, brake, and steer. On top of that, inertia of the half shafts puts force on the steering and suspension geometry.

RX-7s, Miata (usually ford v8), S2000s etc. All have seen the V8 swap. The first two are rather frequent. My instructor had an MGB he got for a few grand. Dropped in a junkyard 350 he fixed up with some other mods.. and an awesome 12 second car is made. Actually another teach there did it to a Triumph TR6 as well.

Modifying your car by stripping out weight and making your engine high compression is not fair to comparison it to ANY factory vehicle. @CrackinVTEC666 It is also clear you do not know what torque steer is. Torque steer can happen in a straight line, you dip shit. It is simply the effect of the vehicle being pulled in a direction because of some bias in the suspension or drive line (as in not directly related to actually TURNING). The greater the torque of the engine the stronger the effect can be. Actual TURNING can exaggerate TORQUE STEER because of body roll, drive angle changes etc.

That is what is known as a bottle neck. Honda did not make a performance machine. They made an econobox that was probably made in colors like beige and silver. Engines like the B18 are awesome, but there applications are usually tragic. This goes for all FWD vehicles. When accel makes weight shift off the drive wheels.. its sad.

Because the car is being pulled through the turn (using same traction for steering and acceleration/braking) it tend to want to move away from center. That is not torque steer. That is FWD under steer. That is why it inherently sucks for racing. Inside tire wants to move slow, outside tire fast, car goes high, so you are forced to go slow in order to go "fast".

I agree, ofcourse. A turbo 4 or 6 will always have /some/ lag at lower rpm. I live near a dragstrip, in a city that is mostly dominated by muscle, so having a turbo car is very fun right now because it's unique, and also VERY cheap to get power from compared to most NA V8s in the same price range as my DSM. I don't argue against either domestic of import. I love them both. Personally, my dream car is a 2001 Firebird WS6 LS1 w/ an HX40 Holset and meth injection ;)

@Kyzashin The technology is solid but if you haven't driven a big displacement car then you have no room to talk. An old 440 cubic inch muscle car from Chrysler is considerably more fun to drive than a turbo Civic etc. And all those small CC engines don't make ANY torque, nor do they make power until very high revs. I can punch the throttle in my 302 powered Mustang from 1,000 rpm and instantly blow the tires off. There is no waiting, it's instant power and gobbs of torque.

I've driven my dad's 454 Chevelle, and while I'm not into burning away money on pointless burnouts(not a red neck. and yes, I know it's about having the ability to do it), I have to say the feeling of instant torque is, for me, just as fun as feeling my DSM at 3000 rpm go from a sluggish economy car to a 12 second awd street car in a second. And there is no waiting if you know how to drive it right. Drive what you love! :)

@Deathryuu A DSM is a step above the other stuff. It's American designed for one, and it's AWD so traction is not an issue. If the turbo(s) are sized right there may not be any lag, but it still doesn't change the fact that even the Eclipse can't make 300 lb/ft of torque right off idle. The quickest turbo car I drove was a friend's gutted Honda Civic DX hatch (basically a CRX) with a modified B20B on 11 lbs with a relatively big turbo. The car weighed under 2000 lbs and put down 325whp.

ford 302cu.i. (5.0L) v8 and chrysler's 345cu.i. (5.7) both have it and both produce around 400hp.
unlike the small displacement engines, they do this reliablly, and throughout the entire rpm range, not just at the peak rpm.

Literally a diff turbo, port and polish and some other mods and its 400 HP to the crank. Not bad for an engine that is 20 years old and probably in a Spirit, Lebaron, Omni, Charger etc.

A rear drive vehicle with good tires with limited slip diff, or even better a locker, will go through most anything, regardless of what brand it caries. I am not a stang fanboy but I know enough that you can make them handle pretty damn well, even the Fox bodies. Steve Saleen had much success with them, as well as other in other racing series.

Will it be as practical as starting off with something that was a V8 powered RWD platform? NO. You will even need a new drive train and more. Will it be expensive? Yes. You will be hard pressed to find a streetable Honda quicker than 12 seconds. The N/A limit of that engine is not much more than a 2-3 hundred horsepower.

For one it has dual overdrive, two because it does not have to rev high like a four cylinder. 1600ish RPM in sixth while going 60-70 MPH. And i don't disagree with diesel statement. I would def own a 12v or 24v cummins.

They CMM (coordinate measuring machine. expensive ruby tipped, computerized measuring devise) every block even. They have tolerance for cylindricity and runout that are like .0001" and better. I'm sure others are similar now but I love cummins. I am ignorant of the p/u truck v8s and V6s cummins is supposed to have.

@DrifterB2W i go to school for diesel repair the thing cummins has is inline engines make more torque at low RPMs figure it like every powerstroke the crank turns 180 degrees inline engines produce more torque in that 180 degree turn then v8s do at low rpms because of the relative rod/crank angle during the stroke but when you tach up V8 diesels a little bit it equals out cummins is the first mass produced diesel engine they are deff one of the top condenders

In a front wheel drive car, that SAME TRACTION is used to accelerate, brake, and steer. On top of that, inertia of the half shafts puts force on the steering and suspension geometry.

RX-7s, Miata (usually ford v8), S2000s etc. All have seen the V8 swap. The first two are rather frequent. My instructor had an MGB he got for a few grand. Dropped in a junkyard 350 he fixed up with some other mods.. and an awesome 12 second car is made. Actually another teach there did it to a Triumph TR6 as well.

It is simply the effect of the vehicle being pulled in a direction because of some bias in the suspension or drive line (as in not directly related to actually TURNING). The greater the torque of the engine the stronger the effect can be. Actual TURNING can exaggerate TORQUE STEER because of body roll, drive angle changes etc.

You can make any car handle well, and at least they are RWD. The foxes have an aftermarket that your honda should be envious of. I don't car about the two shit boxes you had. @DrifterB2W no i made the 2 shitboxes i had work they were just HORRIBLE on gas i had to fill up 3 times a week.. i only gotta fill the honda up once a week and its just as fast as my 2 muscles were another thing ... RWD muscle ... yea you aint goin no where in the snow.... my honda ... ill take through a blizzard

@CrackinVTEC666 I assume you are confusing FWD under steer with torque steer maybe?? That is the inherent problem with FWD. Because the car is being pulled through the turn (using same traction for steering and acceleration/braking) it tend to want to move away from center. That is not torque steer. That is FWD under steer. That is why it inherently sucks for racing. Inside tire wants to move slow, outside tire fast, car goes high, so you are forced to go slow in order to go "fast".
