Looked into the NTSB info...Design discrepancy...Evidently, gusset plates of a lesser thickness than what should've been required for a bridge of this size were used in initial construction...As the years went by, corrosion, and weight due to roadway revisions to allow for added traffic demand led to eventual failure of these vital parts of steel truss bridge construction...
Did they ever determine what caused this? I have to assume it was some sort of fatigue issue that could've been addressed long before something like this happened...
It's really pathetic that people are blaming bush for this, then again i'm sure these are the same exact people who blame him for 9/11 and for hurricane katrina!! think about how ridiculous that sounds before you automatically blame a president for something he didn't have control over, He didn't 'create' the hurricane, fly the planes into the buildings or make the 35W bridge collapse!!!!
those number are from the survey team (they guy with the fbi t-shirt and stick with orange thing on it and the SUV with the 'mast' on it). looks like they were doing a reconstruction and needed to ID all the cars and where they where, as well as the bridge componets.
i am assumeing that the letter designates a section and the the number is for each car.
OMG look at the amount of cars there are!!it said on the news that the ppl that lived nearby heard screamin for like 2 weeks but the fbi n al them ppl refused2go and help them!!!!
May God be with the people that was hurt or the families that lost loved ones in this horrible bridge collapse. Records showed that 35W was in danger of collapsing and the recommend actions of closing the bridge after a inspection was completed sometimes before this occurred.The substructure and the superstructure was in critical to danger of collapsing.Let me say this in away that others can understand the bridge was going to collapse due to many issue including natural occurreness.
this is inevitable, all bridges succumb to rust and regular wear and tear, scheduled analysis of the bridges condition is the only thing that can prevent this.
Was the driver of the truck that fell on its side alright? What was the final death toll-13? If had been open to four lanes of traffic the carnage would have been twice as much.
Things like this could have been prevented`we just need to find what the problem is and tackle it`this is truly sad and bless those who are gone and god be with the families. I couldnt imagine this happening where I live or to any of my family members.
Its still unimaginable to watch this video and realize that it really happened. It was unreal to see it on TV and I'm sure the people in the Cities were even more shocked by it as so many used that bridge daily. The bridge could have collapsed at any time and it happened to be that moment and it could have been any moment before. My Dad is a truck driver and was on the bridge the previous day. It could have happened then. I am so heartbroken for the all of the families of this disaster.
we just rebuilt the new bridge.... it got done quick cuz they had workers on the job 24/7 .... it was a scary thing because that is the most used road in the state.... everone in the twin cities area has atleast crossed that bridge once.... it leads right to the skyscrapers, the stadiums and the malls of downtown minneapolis... well we recovered so now lets put the money towrds fixin the roads and stop spending it to bailout crooks on wall street

What I'm wondering is what are the spray paint #'s on the cars?
I saw one that said "28W" or something like that.
@ 0:33 - 0:36, can someone tell me what those #'s are for?
hager999 1 year ago
@hager999
i think it was the police or somthing and it was a crime scene. or maybe it was just to count how many cars there were. im not sure.
