Well, got to remember this is the first GT ever to have damage modelling, and because of license agreements, only rally cars can be damaged badly, BUT if GT5 would have damages Yamauchi wanted to create, people WOULD only whine about how hard it is to complete (because I believe atleast 80% of players would ram AI cars constantly)

The idea is NOT TO CRASH, if you crashed in real life, the race would have to be called off, you might go to hospital, that sounds like a boring game, sitting in A&E for 4 hours waiting to find out if you have a broken bone, then realising that you've gone over your insurance excess and have to pay out, or possibly even write off your car, i think i'd rather play gt5...
