11 years on, I was browsing about John Lennon and came across this posting. Back in 1999 I was hitching out of Brighton and got picked up by The Diggers. I'm the geezer playing the guitar on the march to St George's Hill. After this, I wrote my environmental anthropology dissertation 'How environmental consciousness became a culture of environmental action'. Thanks to Tinkers Bubble for also inspiring. Much of what the 1996 road protestors fought for has become European legislation.

Wow, what a difference 10 years makes! If this had happened in 2009 the police presence would have been much stronger. the participants would all be filmed and photographed by an intellegence gathering team - vans, dogs and helicopters would be probably be near by. It certainly wouldn't last two weeks. Just shows how scared the state has become of brilliant protests such as this.
Any plans for the 360th? I'm planning to have a walk around the neighbourhood from 8pm at Weybridge Railway station on April 1. I haven't been there for a couple of years.
If they did this now there would be 15 riot vans with special patrol group cracking skulls
