Who cares what the technical definition is. It's music, it's awesome, and that's what really matters. No genre; there are no bands that sound the same as Flower Kings or Karmakanic, it's a unique fusion of Dixie Dregs and Genesis / Yes.
But in the end, I think one thing we can agree upon is that the keyboard needs a cigarette after all that.
Not to quote wiki, but here it is: Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, sculpture, and paintings. The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics. So, to recap: Music is art. Art-rock would, per definition, mean: Music-rock. And, as rock is a music genre: Music-Music :)
Music as a whole is concidered art, so is most stuff created in some way. Hence, the word art-rock is a non descripting genre that really doesn't mean anything, unless you have something else to state about the term art-rock. Id jsut don't get the term art-rock. It is, for instance, like saying a paiting is an art-paiting and not a contemporary painting. Don't get me wrong, I just don't understand the term, this music to me is as good as it gets:)
today, the word art is applied too many times to sub-par "artistic" attempts, and just because pseudo-artists (even rich ones) are called artists and their "creations" are called art, it does not mean that it is a true art in its original meaning. True art requires more than a smart producer who identifies marketable individual and makes him/her famous "artist". True art should satisfy much higher parameters than what society accepts today as an art. Thus the expression art-rock truly fits here.
