The ORIGINAL "Cleveland Rocks" is (c)1979 by Ian Hunter and was Side 1 / Track 3 of his "You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic" album, Chrysalis Records catalog # CHR-1214. I'm not sure if Cheap Trick ever covered the song, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did since Ian Hunter, Hunter's former band "Mott the Hoople", and Cheap Trick were all of the "New Wave" aka "Pop-Punk" genre.

I know, it was such an amazing show.

It went on Hiatus though for a year or two. Then abc made the really big mistake of putting it on at like 10:30, thus it was cancelled. Really sad to cause drew was going to get married and have a kid. Which would have then ended the series, but no, it was cancelled, really sad.
