  • I was hearing the songs of esc this period and when I reached in 1990 I heard 4 the 1st time this song...and omg was really unexcepted (such as the place)..

Really amazing ,one of the best songs really in the history of esc (in audio version is even better)

  • As a child this song got me crying. Then years later I found the lyrics and I saw that it was talking exactly about what I imagined while listening. That´s the power of music.

  • Sounds like she wiped herself with her right hand...

  • La mejor canción e interpretación de la historia del festival de Eurovisión, junto al molitva. RITA GRANDE, from Spain!

  • one of the most great songs ever from eurovision

  • omg this song is so powerful and moving one of the best in eurovision history. And her 18 place is shame .eurovision is not place for great singers .love from Poland

  • If you close your eyes and just listen to the music it's a fantastic performance.

On the other hand, if you look directly at it you will probably turn blind on the spot...

  • @FishMoses I totally agree with you. Rita is amazing and she should have come first (and France was a good 2nd). When I heard Rita, I really loved the song but I was sure the juries wouldn't notice it, they're really unprofessional, those juries, aren't they? And they called themselves specialists. Bravo Israel I love so many of your songs!!

  • Pínu flott,

  • great song, great performance. I loved it even when I didn't understand a word of it but now I see it also has great lyrics. well done!

  • ריטה זמרת ישראלית נהדרת ,עם כל המנירות המוזרות כאילו שהיא עומדת ליגמור כל רגע באיזה אורגזמה . הבעיה שבחו''ל לא תמיד אוהבים הגזמות

  • Una canción de culto... MARAVILLOSA!!!

  • So beautiful, so real!!!

    I love it!

  • I was blown away by this sing. Even though its been 20 years, this is a fantastic song. I browsing through ESC videos and came across Rita's entry in 1990. From 0:25-0:30 I can feel chills up my spine. What an amazing voice, chorus and song! I have no idea of what she is saying but I have already listened to this song 100 times. Not since Ofra Haza has there been such an amazing singer in Israel. I will never understand why Italy won ESC in 1990, it should have been either Israel or Yugoslavia!

  • a great israeli singer!

  • i have watched eurovision since early 80's and to me this song is the best song hands down that has ever entered eurovision... the quality is amazing .. and when she went off notes it just felt sincere.. she was purely captivating..

  • Beautiful song

  • Awesome, shame on you judges you made her 18th!

  • Gracias por el video. Me gustaría que lo subtitularan al español para apreciar la letra del tema, que me parece hermoso, al igual que la interpretación de la cantante. Saludos desde Venezuela.

  • @LaSalamandra19 si, me sumo a la peticion, o al menos traducirlo al ingles, me parecen buenisima la cancion, la actuacion y la cantanteThe song, the action(performance) is very good, the singer and I am charmed with the Hebrew, but please, someone can translate the letter Spanish or English?

  • @chipironiberico "in the early morning; you slept so softly and silent; i covered myself with a coat; dont want to look back; i left everything laid; and the keys in the mailbox as always; just look at me singinging in the streets; collecting loves dodging from miracles and dissappointments singing in the streets; because i wanted so fast; not to be with you anymore; didnt think if i should or should not; and you that all my life be like a salt print on my hands;

  • @misterman81 to this morning; it has a taste of foreign freedom; like death or blessing; because i left you;

just look at me singing in the streets; collecting loves avoiding from miracles and dissappontments singing in the streets; and the great water that you have been for me ; will get far and wont come to me again; and you that all my life will remain like a salt print on my hands;"

  • Meant to say Thank you for such a great upload of this

  • she was in Eurovision 1986 also??

  • ein tolles lied und eine tolle stimme

  • Rita is fantastic and this song made history. I lived in Israel when she participated in the Eurovision and I remember like it was yesterday how much twist to her win. By the way I have a k7 tape with this song. Congratulations on the initiative of posting this video.

  • Still my favourite Eurovision rntey ever!!!

  • Firstly this is a brilliant song but it did'nt do well because of politics. Eurovision has a long track record of unpopular countries at the time due to offensive wars getting low votes with good songs, Turkey in '75. UK in '04. This was the time of the 1st intifada with over 500 unarmed palestineans gunned down in a year. Big turning point in Israels reputation and too much for this great song to overcome on the night.

  • @stephenofheaven y then did Israel come second the next year?

  • Um, Ofra Haza?

  • her name is Rita

  • I guess you can't tell that my message was a reply to someone else. I can read, don't worry.

  • שיר מדהים .... אבל לא מתאים לאירווזיון !

  • שיר חלש ,זמרת ישראלית בלבד !!!!

  • Wonderful song!!

  • tepite lay, I love you...

  • Comment removed

  • She deserved better. Racist juries.

  • great singer

  • Beautiful song, wonderful lyrics, gorgeous singer and a stunning performance. Why so few votes???

  • YES this is the BEST Israeli entry EVER !!!

  • i just got shivers

  • israel could have easily won 5 more eurovisions.... israel rules the contest.

  • she was born in Tehran, Iran and she was Iranian

  • Comment removed

  • the best israeli enterance ever!

  • 18th place?

Wow, i guess 1990 Eurovision was the best year ever if this song ended only in 18th place...

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Best Israeli entry, one of the best songs in ESC history. Europe didn't get Rita, that was too much for them to get - real music and powerful moving performences are not welcome in the ESC.

  • My god. I was almost a newborn then and nineteen years later, I'm keen of this lady.

  • snap, we must be the same age!

  • Nenavigu gidov!!!!!!!

  • 1990 was around the time the eurovision changed to what it is today. gone are the orchestras etc. with the bigger halls and technical systems some singers suffered from bad sound. big ballads need very good sound because the voice carries the song.. not drums. if the singer can't hear themselves the song suffers

  • This is a haunting song and it is strange how so many good songs have gone amiss in this contest. This entry made me look for Rita's other work and she has sung very beautiful songs. Thank you Rita for sensitive moments. Melios from Cyprus.

  • An amazing song, amazing performance...too good for this contest! And i am a big fan of this contest! Simply beautiful...Well done

  • שיר יפה לא לארוויזיון !!!

  • I just love this song and the performance is outstanding! Go Rita!

  • very nice song!

  • one of my all time favourite ESC songs!!!!

  • she is so beautiful and awesome Rita rock !!!!

  • The only things that are about right are her vibrato and her legs. The melody is not memorable, her singing is more than once off, the presentation is Hollywoodesque and based on pathos, her little gestures are caricatural.

I really can't see why anyone would call this the 'best Eurovision song ever' for other than for chauvinistic reasons.

  • I'm not from israel and I still consider this to be the best eurovision song ever, am I being chauvinistic too?

  • No, in your case it is not chauvinism, but probably a matter of underdeveloped taste. :-)

  • oh well, dutchmen were never renowned for their high standards

  • You see, the difference between you and me is that I criticize your *personal* bad taste, and that you are so bigoted as to insult *my people*.

    Congratulations on proving my point.

And good luck with your bigotry. Just what we need in this world, and a true asset of a Eurovision Song Contest.

  • I am dutch and I love it!

  • You're honestly right. Many notes are off and this song simply isn't memorable. I do enjoy her dress and big hair, however. I don't see why so many here think this is the best song ever.

  • This is an amzing emotional song! Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but this song was way ahead of its time...coming from me that i was 10 yo then...still love it

  • very haunting

  • OMG, this song was so underated, one of the best acts in esc history, so much passion. But for me Shiri was the best Hasheket Shenish Ar is just magic. But this one is so close. Israel is my fav esc nation by far, love from Serbia

  • perfect!

  • לתחרות שולחים את הסוס הכי מהיר לא הסוס הכי יפה! ריטה טובה מדי בשביל הזבלה הזה...מדהימה!

  • No doubt, this is the best israeli entry ever. Some might say that was Shiri Maimon, but the Rita's performance makes me shiver! Shiri was correct, but not as passionate as this one. Even the English version (usually weaker than the one in the original language) is awesome.

  • impressive

  • I cannot stop listening to this song...

I still get the shivers after 18 years...

  • היתה צריכה לשיר באנגלית היתה זוכה פור שור לי שור!!

  • this is such a great song, i think the best Israeli entry ever

  • good old days of eurovision...

  • true

  • amazing

  • Rita te amo desde aqui do Brasil ! Tens uma voz maravilhosa !!!

  • I think it was impossile then - I guess the rules said that the artists had to sing their songs entirely in their language

  • which puts abundant francophone countries at advantage if that was the case

  • Oh, I loved this song. I was 15 then!

  • Oh i remeber this one, it was my favourite. Rita is gorgeous

  • as much as i adore Rita (and this song), her dancing moves resemble ones of a stripper ... :)

  • beautiful

  • I remember this ... loved her dress big time!

  • This was one of my absolute favourites that year. I didn't realize it was Rita singing!

  • ...it happened to me the same: I learned the songs in hebrew, and, some years (a lot!) later, I´ve learned so much hebrew to understand it completely. Gorgeous, fantastic, what a voice and feeling!!!

  • great great song !! Rita was in Serbia few years ago, a great concert !!!

  • Does anyone know where I can get an mp3 of this song? It's the best

  • Look at me

    Singing in the streets

    Gathering loves

    avoiding miracles and dissapointments

    Singing in the streets

Because I wanted to give up

    To not be with anymore

I wasn't thinking about what is isn't worthwhile

and you who are all my life

will remain like a salt inscription on my hands

  • in the morning i wake you slept quietly and loud i got wrapped in my coat i didn't want to face [you] i left everything laying (in its place) and the bunch of keys (back in) the box as always look at me singling in the streets because i wanted to hurry away not to be with you anymore i didn't think about what was worthwhile and what wasn't and now for the rest of my life you will remain as salt script on my hands
  • One of my favourites too. I have the English version MP3, very moving, but does anyone have the Hebrew language version?

  • oh rita, wou sexy, sexy thing! Very powerful, very sensual... maybe not the optimal performance, but very very good... i hope she "did" her eyebrows to the present dqy :)

  • awsome..!

  • ABOSLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 18 years later, and it still gives me the chills!!! Well Done

  • I hera her again and again and again......

  • This is a very powerfull song' I hope I succeed to deliver you even a little from it.

  • Chours b: behold me! singing in the streets begs love avoid from miracles and disppointments singing in the streets because I wantted to hurry and the great water you were for me get away from me and dosen't return and you will stay a "salt inscription" on my hands for the rest of my life. Behold me...
  • Part b:

    This morning

has a taste of stranger freedom

Like a death or a blass

because I walked away from you

  • Chours: behold me! singing in the streets begs love avoid from miracles and disppointments singing in the streets because I wnattd to hurry not see you anymore I didn't think what I should or shouldn't and you will stay a "salt inscription" on my hands for the rest of my life.
  • Translation:

    Part A:

    Early at the morning

you slept so quitely and sofly

    I wear my coat

    don't want to gaze

    I left everyting lay down

    and the pack of keys

    in the box llike always

  • GORGEOUS !!!

  • OH WOW1 IF YOU HAVE IT FLAUNT IT :)

    bravo!

  • great song! my all time favourite israeli entry! What a passionate performance! I was 19 and in the army back then and it brings back a lot of great memories.

  • Fantastic! My favorite in 1990...

  • she should won that year.. so good performance

  • Bravo!!

  • The name of the song is

    'Singing in the streets".

Rita is a great singer in Israel

  • Wow !!!! Impresionante Lastima que aca en Israel Ya no se sabe nada de Rita !!!!

  • onw of the strongest performenses i've ever seen

  • para mi, solo superada por grecia 92, la mejor cancion de eurovision. Adoro a Rita.

  • I love this performance, her voice and song...

    LOVELY!

  • Rita, israel need you.............

  • Pure emotion.... re-discovered it today and fell in love again with this song... i remember hearing it as a kid and trying to find it on my radio late at night to hear it again and again! Bravo Rita

  • preciosa melodía, gran interpretación... Una maravilla

Luego he sabido que en Israel es considerada todo un icono dentro de la comunidad gay, al menos así lo decían en una película sobre dos militares que se hacían novios

  • Brilliant! Never saw a song so much come from the heart.

  • Great song!

  • One of the best songs in the history of Eurovision!!!! It's a shame that the level of this contest has gone so low....that songs dont really matter...but neighbouring voting and politics win instead...

  • my top 3 in the ESC 1990 is: 1 united kingdom 2.yogoslavia.3 austria.

  • great performance...

  • she was very under-estimated at that time, and the song was also very unique with sharp rythim changes. she is now in diva status.. her voice is very unique.

  • My number 3 ever in ESC !!!!!!!! FAB !

  • Rita is great !

and I LOVE THIS SONG !

  • Rita is Iranian, and she was born in Iran as Rita Yahan-Farouz, then later emigrated to Israel with her parents.

  • She is amazing!!!!!!!! I was 11 back then...Amazing strong performance! What an artist!Enjoy listening to her over and over...and yeah, i dont understand a word!

  • this is an awesome song I rememeber when I saw her on TV I was amazed by her power and voice still she is giving amazing shows her voice is so powerfull that it makes you quiver

  • It's a good song. I have the live CD of her singing with Rami, and I don't like her as much when she sings with him. Their voices clash, but when they are each by themselves....Well, yeah...

  • I have to agree that this is one of the best songs ever performed at ESC. The really good songs do tend to be passed over by the juries but at least we can still listen and appreciate it. Thanks for posting the video.

  • Passion doesn't need a language!!!

  • I heard Rita before and I believe she can sing better than this. Here she's not always on key (nervous?) and I found the song particularly forgettable.

  • This song is just so powerful that I shiver at the thought of it. So dramatic, and a wonderful performance by Rita. Forget the juries; hear songs like this and know that songs can be great even though they don't score well. This I feel is Israel's strongest every entry.
