  • royal school of bagpipes is where im learning

  • im learning the Bagpipes and im taking lessons i like it alot

  • what he doesent tell you is that they are birl's in this song

  • IM IRISH BITCHES lol

  • wow these videos are crap....he does not actually tell us how to play a basic tune...he just starts piping away!

  • Mr. Hubbard, If you didn't know the lyrics to the song, then here they are.

" As I went down to Turra Market, Turra Market for to fee, I fell in with a market farmer, the barnyards of delgaty. linten addie, toorin addie, linten addie toorin ee, linten lowrin lowrin lowrin, the barnyards of delgaty.

    there you go

  • I used to play the bagpipe but have not been playing fro a long time and now starting again on the chanter. I will buy my next bagpipe when I next visit the UK/Scotland

  • I wanna learn bagpipes so I can get laid by scottish girls with nice butts

  • I like to play a bagpipe just ot annoy my neighbors even though I can't play one one for s***.

  • your good at playin them but i dont see the point of ear plugs

  • @pipepractice It's because of how loud the pipes are.

  • Thanks for the mini lesson. I would love to learn to play.

  • @ jpmacph Thats right, but i think it is good for a Beginner to see some little Thinks about Pipe tuning. A Lot of Peoples are playing QUIIIIIICK Tones. Since they do not know how they must adjust the Drone. Properly learn best with the practice chanter, school and in a group. In addition, always nice and slow. One by one, and In no stress

  • ear plugs are not a bad idea, unless you want to be deaf in a few years.. lol

  • I want to play the bag pipes.... D:

  • is there a band near you because you could probably get them 2 teach you

  • weirdo i am neither u on the other hand are the biggest most retarded phoney i have ever had the misfortune 2 talk 2 and u still havnt answered my question

  • weirdo ive not actualy heard u mention wat band u play for or u making it up

  • WANT TO LEARN THE PIPES? Just google "bagpipe band" or "bagpipe teachers" with your city/state names. Most bands will teach or konw where a teacher can be found.

    Piper from Pennsylvania here.

  • wats the point of wearing ear plugs its better without them.

  • @craigr112 he explains it. Its actually deafeningly loud. Obviously never having played them yourself (or you would know why we wear ear plugs) there is no real sound difference with hearing protection.

  • actualy i do play them i have played them for 4 years and i am in a band . no1 i play with wears them

  • @craigr112 ahhh so are you ignorant or stupid?

  • Where would i learn bagpipe?(i live in Texas)

  • i love that tune, superb job. I learned to play this song on the piano. A++ :)

  • It's great, but it would better if we could see the fingers !....

  • "Learn how to play a basic tune in this free video series that will show you everything you need to know about playing the bagpipe"

Why the devil have I studied this instrument for such a long time when there's a 1'30'' YouTube vid that will show me "everything I need to know about playing the bagpipe"???

  • What do we learn from this video??

    He is just showing off!!!

  • I think he's teaching us how to watch someone playing bagpipes!

  • Wish the americans would say the scottish words correctly

The tune is called Barnyards of Dalgetty

not Dalgatty, och a dinna ken, even pipe tune is to slow, its a fast tune

  • from a piper,

dont try to learn the bagpipes off youtube or online. you wont learn how to play well. get lessons.

  • who would u contact to get lessons???

  • local pipe band

  • @jpmacph you can learn to play anything really well with or without lessons. it just depends on how determined you are. either way, youre always learning and picking up new stuff. yeah, taking lessons is probably faster, but you can still learn how to do things, no matter how you learn them.

  • @xBASSBOOMx do you play the pipes? no. so don't speak about something that you know nothing about.

  • @jpmacph i play guitar. ive been playing for 8+ years. havent taken one lesson. go watch my videos.

  • @xBASSBOOMx i taught myself to play guitar too. you can teach yourself guitar, doesnt work that way for the pipes. thats all im saying, not trying to be an ass. just want people who have no knowledge of the pipes to know before they dive in

  • @jpmacph not trying to be an ass? read your last comment. you can teach yourself anything. how do you think the first people learned everything? there were no classes or lessons when things first came out. but theres really no point of this, ill think and do what i want and you think and do what you want.

  • @xBASSBOOMx ok dude. all im saying is that my input is educated and from years of experience, and yours is completely uninformed. people become good at things by taking knowledge from a trade gained over generations and compiling the information, not from scratch. sorry thats just how it works.

  • @jpmacph what if theres none near u.

  • @d1v4dPwnz You can teach yourself to play anything. It just takes time and practice. But for God's sake if you're going to teach yourself to play the bagpipes, buy a practice chanter first, and good instruction book that tells you how to do everything right. Watch yourself play in the mirror; and learn how to play amazing grace. If you can play amazing grace on the chanter, you can buy yourself a set of bagpipes.

  • @charlesdcw1990 I was able to get the fingering down and learn amazing grace within my first 3 months on the chanter! :) I just needa work on my inflating the bag thing and when to breathe.. do i breathe bag in when i feel it going down? I just blow in when i think the chanter will jst keep going but its stops at high notes :\

  • @d1v4dPwnz Watch Neil. He appears to breathe normally. Like blow, squeeze blow, squeeze. I am still on the practice chanter but i figure thats the way to go.

  • @charlesdcw1990 And once you learn Amazing Grace, you'll be set. People always request it, and they're usually not interested in anything else. It's fun to be able to play just one song successfully on the pipes; as a self-taught piper I can appreciate the work it takes to be able to play a good tune. I can only play a few songs, but people still go nuts over my pipes.

  • @k2han ya i know what you mean i'm a self-taught and usually if you can play anything resembling a song people will like it because of how unique it is. I play covers of songs by the Rod Hot Chilli Pipers and man it's a pain sometimes but i'm getting the hang of things.

  • @jpmacph where? D:

  • @ric0h look up a local pipe band. they'll usually teach you and outfit you for free.

  • @jpmacph u need lessons....its just not possible to learn on the internet way :P but its cool that he made that.

  • @jpmacph So true. I tried to learn from a book. It doesn't work. Youtube helps supplement my private lessons but I could never receive the critiquing that I receive from my bagpipe instructor. There's no way to really learn well unless someone shows you because for hundreds of years, it was an oral tradition.

  • could anyone tell me what the notes on the chanter is?

  • Low G, Low A, B, C, D, E, F, High G, High A.

  • i agree with transfat typically a "how to" video says step 1 do this, step 2 do that and step 4 do the other. Let me do it for you in slow motion first. Now that we have gone through it, lets do this in real time. Can you see the difference what xxx does to the end result?" this video should be titled im gonna playa tune fo you.

  • he didn't actually tell us how to play the song.

  • who said he was going to *tell* you how to play it?

  • It's a video on how to play a basic tune, he didn't show how to play it, did he? He just simply played it, I couldn't even see all of his fingers most of the time.

  • 1) not everything in life is spoon fed to you. this isn't your special ed class

    2) do you really care? are you an avid bagpipe player-to-be that just hit a huge brick wall because you want to play this tune but alas COULD NOT SEE HIS FINGERS and now you are ruined? If so, please flag the video as "Spam - Misleading text" and go cry yourself to death.

  • I'm not trying to get into an argument, I'm just saying, This is not a how to video on account of he did not say how too play it. If it were a how too video he would of gone threw it step by step, not like it matters to me because if I wanted to learn It could look at the sheet music. I don't know what your problem is, calm the hell down.

  • if you're not trying to get into an argument then why do you keep driving your point against opposition? you have contradicted yourself in every post.

Where are the rules on "how to" videos that say you have to show step by step how to do something? Like I said, not everything in life is spoon fed.

You keep talking and talking about a point that 1) is irrelevant to anything you're doing in life, and 2) really isn't that valid in the first place. It seems I am not the one with a problem

  • a how too video will show you HOW TOO do something, this in no way is a HOW TOO VIDEO

Get it? Video no show how do anything, understand????

  • Like I said, not everything in life is spoon fed to you like your special ed class. for some people when you want to show them how to do something you.. show them how to do it (i.e. do it for them to watch). This is enough for some people.

For the slower learners (you) there needs to be step by step instruction with the basic steps spelled out one by one. However, this doesn't mean that a simple watch and learn video can't be called a "how to" video just because the slow don't get it.

  • When ever I show some one how to play something one the pipes or the bass, I make sure they can see my hands well, in this case, you could only see his top hand for a while eventually you could see both at the end of the video, maybe it could be watch and learn video if you could see the entire chanter clearly, because really, is any beginner going to be able to learn by ear?

  • You must be crazy because you have to admit you cant see both of his hands most of the time, you are a very slow learner it seems because you cant even realize what is obvious

  • no, i realize what you're saying. good for you you do a better job at how to videos in your opinion.

    congratulations.

the rest is long-winded pointless drivel about semantics of what "how to" means.

I say just because you can't see everything doesn't mean it can't be called a "how to"

You say you have to see the fingers and have things spelled out to be called "how to"

I personally have just performed this song flawlessly to a group of happy children thanks to this video.

  • I want bagpipes! or is it a bagpipes?

    hmm

    I need one! (some)

  • i love the pipes , im sure you have been to the maxville highland Games , i was thier this year it was AWSOME ,Cheers!!

  • not bad sounding pipes...I just don't like that guy for some reason...

  • It says: "How to play a basic tune on Bagpipes"

There was no instruction. It does not tell you how to play a tune on the bagpipes

  • Comment removed

  • Because the bagpipes aren't like the guitar; you can't just sit down for a couple hours and pipe away. You ears will get tired. The 25 decibel decrease makes for a more comfortable playing experience.

And just so you know, you don't need to be Scottish to play the pipes. they weren't even invteneted in Scotland or Ireland. They were originally a middle eastern instrument.

  • is it really middle eastern? coz i've never seen a middle eastern man playing a bagpipe

  • well they're quite different...same general concept though

  • It must be really hard blowing into the bag dont u think?

  • not much different than playing loud on a regular woodwind - if you have a good blowpipe, valve, and bag - If the blowpipe is too narrow its a bit like blowing through a straw - they make special ones ("air stream"? ...I think) that have a really wide bore to make it easier to blow - this is especially beneficial to older pipers or anyone who has any breathing conditions

  • i guess u r right. but bagpipes r quite expensive arent they? in the UK it costs around £200.

  • try £600 plus for a decent set, unless you're VERY LUCKY.

If you're wanting to buy, I'd check out Kintail Bagpipes or MacCallum Bagpipes.

  • btw a scottish guy told me scottish army used bagpipes to frighten the invading english army. coz some ppl find the squeaky sound of bagpipe horrible.

  • well just imagine a hundred pipers blasting away as you came over a hill - pretty intimidating

  • just because he's american doesn't mean he's not scottish, you don't know his family

  • i think all the haters should suck my balls. you probably arent any better then this guy cus hes actually getting views on youtube when you probably arent getting any

  • doubt that's why

  • what alot of angry critics here... what's with all the vitriol ?

  • way to miss all those pesky grace notes buddy

  • once again, PLEASE Anyone have the notes for this tune? or simply the name!!

  • the barnyards of delgati. he says it right at the beginning

  • Really it should sound like del -ga- tay. The emphasis should be on the last syllable (tay)

  • At least tune your drones Fuck sake

  • I find it odd how he is playing it... not the way he taught me when I started learning just over a year ago...

  • God, another bad teacher ruining another batch of his students.

  • What tune is that? I like it, I tried to find the notes but I couldn´t so if someone can give me the tune, I will apreciate a lot thank you very much

  • this tune isn't being played right, theres doublings and throws missing, also played far too slow. its a tune for just startin i learned it in my 1st week of playing

  • Comment removed

  • alright sweet thanks a lot.

  • Hey how difficult is it to learn how to play the bagpipe? can someone help me out?

  • the finger techniques are easier to learn if you're familiar with any other instrument, only the blowing and pressure on the bag was hard for me (i played trombone before). buy a practice chanter in any case before buying a real bagpipe, it's fairly cheap (in case it's not so much fun as you think) and you need it to, well, practice ;) good luck

  • Help! I need to master Scotland the Brave by the end of the month, and I am so overwhelmed! I can play it on the chanter, but I'm not that great at the bagpipes yet. Do you have any suggestions on how I should practice? Please help, Thank you.

  • Just keep trying it on the pipes and keep time by tapping your foot. You'll get it in the end.

  • Thanks, I hope I'll get it in time.

  • Anyone have the notes for this tune?

  • why do ppl say the bagpipes are an ugly instrument i think there very pretty i like the the sound the drones have

  • it's one of the most beautiful instruments on the earth :)

  • yeah the drones are the best part of the bagpipes..i wish i could play them

  • for the pillock who knows no geography, Delgaty is in Aberdeenshire. In Scotland, would you believe.

  • Excellent pace for a beginner.

  • sfu has several american pipers

  • melodeon john talks crap on american pipers but isnt simon frasier the world champions this year ?....hmmmmmmmm

  • Obama sucks..,

  • what tune is that ?? ive got bag pipes but i dont know that tune ! ?????????

  • This guys a tool!!

  • Never heard of the "tune"if you could call it that...and wearing ear plugs takes all the fun out of it ;)

  • Definitly! also, he looks a lot like John McCain

  • I think the "tune" is more of a practice exercise.

  • What tune is that? I like it, I will try to find the notes for it if you can give me the tune, please and thank you:)

  • I love the bags pipes i wish i can have one. =-(

  • So do I

  • yea me too
