  • yeah hahahahahahaha! and then yeah playing giant steps ahhaha!

  • Great tribute to Philly musical history...no wonder he's light years ahead of his time as a musician!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Chris you played in an eighth ensemble, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra with Joseph Primavera as the conductor.

  • Pretty sure he mentions this in the uncut interview, sorry it didn't make the cut

  • No need to be sorry. Just reaching out to Chris and identifying myself. He is one of the nicest people that you'll ever meet. He so right about Philly.

  • Christian Mc Bride ...WHAT A TALENT!!!..

  • I saw him play with Chick Corea and he was smoking on that bass. The drummer had the best mic'd live sound I'd ever heard. His double bass and soloing was tight and on song that night.

  • The show you saw was probably with the drummer Vinny Colaiuta. He is one of the greatest drummers, hands down. I saw that show, with John Mclaughlin on guitar right, Kenny Garnett on Sax. It was out of this world.... I was laughing like a maniac I was getting so high of the music.

  • I checked it out, Brian Blade was on the drums that night at the Sydney Opera House.

  • i agree. i would totally get high

  • was that the five peace bad in nyc

  • He was with Bruce Hornsby and Jack DeJohnette.

  • i love this guy's music.

  • He went to my school Capa!!!!!

  • CA-PA. CAPA!

  • Paul Chambers was actually from Detroit via Pittsburgh

  • why are there so many gifted bassists from Philly? CB, PC, Jaco, Stanley, Percy Heath, and the list goes on and on.

  • Jaco was from Florida. Born in PA but spent his whole life in florida.

  • Ok...where do I begin? Thanks for sharing this bit of information. I was actually more expressing a sentiment (about CB's stature) than was I attempting to make an assertion of geo-biographical fact.

I certainly understand that musical giftedness is a strangely and randomly distributed phenomenon. It was really more about BC and the listed bassists than it was about any geographical location.

DAMMIT SPOCK, I'M A POET NOT AN ANTHROPOLOGIST!

  • yeah dude Alphonso Johnson, Nathan East, Victor Bailey ..

  • Yeah and before jazz got to be such an academic thing you would find every other "local" bass player in Delaware, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, DC, NY and Boston came from Philly. I really wonder if there is a culture in Philly around bass playing like there is with, say, hockey in Boston. The stars come from your market and so everyone wants to play what they played. BTW, I'm not from Philly.

  • whos pc???

  • Paul Chambers
