the moog was invented in America, along with pretty much every electric synthesizer, what other musical instruments have been invented anywhere in the world within the last 100 years?? theramin maybe?
banjo actually originated from an african instrument three strings and frettless then it changes and morphed into the banjo.......the only instrument invented in america
@mtthwdvs The Appalachian dulcimer is also an American instrument, as well as the glass armonica (Ben Franklin), and the kazoo, the frottoir and most of the electric versions of various instruments. There are probably a few more as well.
@jackbeefus but arnt these all just instruments that have been more or less just americanized........i guess the same could be said of the banjo as well tho
@mtthwdvs You could say that, but you'd have to define where you draw the line between invention and modification. True, the five string banjo is just a modified African banjo, but that was just an adaptation of something else, as was that from yet something else, and so on till you get the first stringed instrument. So I guess it's up you to call it how you see it.
Doc Boggs is great! I love his unique sound and banjo sound. Did not he do many others, including one about a motherless child? I remember that one with great emotion. Can you post that one and any others you can find? Your efforts seem the most satisfactory of all the Doc Boggs presenters.
my papaw new dock to an extend not best budds my papaws name was robert leon short he new dock when he was older and his neeces husband is docks cousin
legend..i tried playing docks music for some folks at work and they HATED IT. how can you not LOVE this mans music..he is and will always be remmembered by the people who apreciate this mans ability to just express what he sang with such feeling and awesome style. love this recording..there used to be some live footage of dock in his later years on you tube a few years back but the user deleted it..sux
@BrunoEspo it's really unfortunate how prejudiced people are to traditional, oldtime and country music or anything with a banjo for that matter... I too have no idea how anyone could hate this type of music if they truly approached it with a sober and open mind. I struggle every day to convince people that traditional music isn't some stupid racist hillbilly phenomenon, but in fact one of the most sincere meditative and intensely expressive music in existence. hard times son hard times indeed..
@RastafariPoet that's what I'm saying man people nowadays associate the banjo and oldtime music with racism and hillbillies and shit which is really unfortunate. Carolina Chocolate Drops FTW
just wonderful !! Dock Boggs is great! I love Roscoe Holcomb also great old singer and player!!!

It can't have anything to do with racial intolerence. Black people were singin/playin the same music. We were always together.
