The reason for this was because Micheal Shanks is a very, VERY talented actor. At this point of time of the show, he wanted to pursue a more "serious" acting role and he got offered a job doing broadway type drama. So they killed off his character in SG, but there was such a huge fan outrage that Micheal Shanks pretty much had no choice but to return being Daniel Jackson. He talks about it openly during a few of his fan Q&A's.

Andromeda has some ups and downs. It's a little tricky and people argue about which of the seasons were better. SGU.....ehh. It showed promise sometimes but never really broke out of a general mediocrity I guess. I know 30 episodes isn't so many, 40 total then it ends, but compare it to say Firefly, which had 14 episodes and was good from day one, even though it ALSO is a LOT of the crew together on the ship talking!!

Andromeda is a little closer to Firefly in some ways.

I also hate how SGU has only given hints towards the past and such, other shows do a deep exploration and look across space/time/history and such with the characters.

I mean, the mission is that there is some type of finger prints from before the universe existed, and to figure it out.
