Great job if you are doing this for not so long yet! Traind hard and you'll be better, I can see potential in you and a lot of fighting spirit :). Oh one little tip, think about your defense while kicking ;). Always think about defense when attacking.
@Nanniechan yes, this was taken after training in Muay thai for 2.5 months. I have come a long way since this video. I believe I improve quite a bit. This video is kind of embarassing but it's also a good reminder of how I started and how I have come along since then :). Thanks for your kind comment
Do you have a background in TKD? Just curious b/c it seems like you are hitting with your instep more than your shin, espescially the high kicks.. Nice stuff!
@EvanChaim no...no background in TKD. I'm beginner in Muay Thai. I did kickboxing for a year and Muay thai for 7 months now. When I did this video, I was fairly new so I think it's more of my technique was pretty rusty. My round kicks/cut kicks have improved quite a bit since this video. As far as high kick, Muay Thai head kick should be high and going down (use more hips). I don't have flexibility to do it yet hence my high kick now look like a TKD kick :).
@CuppaWorkout good stuff! I have been doing muay thai for about 10 years. It is great. You should also try brazillian ju jitsu. That is what I am focusing on now..
@EvanChaim I like striking more than wrestling/grappling. I did Krav Maga and Capoeira before and I really like it. If I want to diversify, I think I will do more capoeira training in addition to Muay Thai. Maybe I can look at sanshou down the road too, a little more wresting/takedown than Muay Thai. But for now, I want to be really good at Muay Thai and hoping i can compete late this year.
@EvanChaim BJJ and aikido combined its great...one for standing submission and one for the ground game..i love grappling but i love the striking dame too ;)
@bignmonkey yep, I have improved quite a bit since I did this video. I did 100 kicks against heavy bag almost every day since then, I do use more hips and all shins now.
Its pretty hard to not drop your hand, you kind of need it to go down to support your balance, most of your high level fighters will drop it and just try to get it back up quickly.
@SlayerofFiction What I mean is the other hand, my coach said I got wound up esp when I was tired, so when the other hand dropped while the other one swung, I opened my face to my opponent. Also, the other part was I have chicken wings, my elbows were all over the place. The other habit, I leaned in instead of lean back. sometimes I did that with my jab too. But, it's good to be able to record and get constructive feedback.
I don't like to use wavemaster though, too light for MT kicks.
@CuppaWorkout I cant use any of those systems like you are using here I punch way to hard for them, your doing well and learning tons. I used to video tape myself as well, and since I primarily had no coach it was very important for me to better myself, but I lost all my old fights/training tapes and now that I no longer compete things like that which did not matter then, are somethign you want to hold onto now :)
@rolandsc have u tried boxing/kickboxing drill like thi? This one is not too bad, the 1 min rest is enough for me to recover usually. In the class, we did it non stop with the punches and knees (and thai pads). If I do it non stop like that, I really need to pace myself (can't always go all out in speed or power) otherwise I can easily pass out or throw up hehe. This one is slightly different, you give it all in 1 min then rest.
@CuppaWorkout No I've not tried kickboxing. I did try a taster session for a "Body Combat" class to see if I could do any of the moves, but my back issues definitely got in the way. Fast twisting movement is not in my range of abilities! But I enjoyed watching you! I can imagine that doing those exercises non stop would induce a certain desire to throw up! The things we do to keep fit! LOL

Keep up the practice. Turn you hips more and hit with your shin. I always make sure my foot is facing downward to prevent the urge to do a snap kick.
