The thing is, money monopolies existed before the Fed and while the US was on the gold standard (gold, after all, IS a fiat currency since its value is 100% prescribed). I support getting rid of centralized currency but I highly doubt gold or silver would be much better. Plus, the environmental damage of gold mining is pretty bad.
