School District misrepresents mathematician's views

Instructional methods with a mix of types of instructions are stated to be helpful and named. "Direct instruction" I understand. What in the world are the methods called "structured investigation" and "open investigation"? How can a description be helpful when terms are used, that parents can't be expected to know, without defining them? Helpful to shut parents up by making them feel ignorant? The woman didn't explain anything.
