Isnt the G50 widescreen at least im pretty sure the G50vt's are, so why are you running 1280x1024. Always run LCD's at native res, unless it is absolutely necessary or is properly scaled.
well, atleast it should be in the proper widescreen aspect ratio since the image is being stretched here. But I agree at 1680x1050 this laptop would implode or something, My main rig struggles with 1920x1200 and it is considerably more powerful than this.
well, this is a cheap build, don't expect the highest quality. oh yes, refresh rates affect the widescreen capability and visual tear. he probably set the refresh to 75 herts
hey great vid ..i recommend u to set shaders on high and everithing else on medium ...trust me itll be a better looking game and u will have the same fps if no better ...
XP doesn't determine how much ram you can utilize. It's a 32bit VS 64bit that determines your ram along with the chipset and bios. But you are correct, I am using only 3gb of my 4gb because I have XP 32 bit install, but if I have XP 64bit, i will see all 4gb. This is the same with Vista.
Yeah, i didn't know that. Recently and custom made a pc with 4gb ram on xp pro 32bit and saw only 3.25 gigs. I thought it might be a motherboard prob but in bios it showed 4gigs. So after some research found out i was the damn 32bit windows. Will soon upgrade to 64bit Vista or wait for windows 7(i think tahts the new one coming up).
Actually, the GPU in the Sager NP8600 is better. Also, XP 64 bit is notorious for poor driver support. Even if you manage to find them, the drivers are poorly written. If you want a 64 bit OS, stick with Vista 64 and if you want XP, go with the 32bit.
I've been using XP64 for about a year now, I have also used vista64. The driver support is as good, I have also had ZERO problems with XP where vistaids crashes and has driver issues. It is also slower and feels less snappy and if you go to change a setting it feels clunky with no option to revert to the original menus. vista has DX10, flashy GUI, sideuselessness bar, indexing which is slows the computer down but makes life easier.
I'd rather have XP, stable, quicker, proven, and i know it well
You should consider the G50VT-X1. Its identical to this but with .3GHz less processing power and a better graphics card (a Nvidia 9800M GS) for only $950 @ Best Buy.
I'm thinking about picking up either the G50vt-x2 or G50v-a2 note the vt versus the v after G50. The 'v' version is older but has a faster processor/slower video card than the vt-x2. Any suggestion on what I should get? I can get either for about the same price now. Blue ray drive might be nice, which the a2 has.
hey dude thnx for this vid i have a question for ya: i have an acer aspire 8930g with 9700M GT 4gig ram ddr3 centrino duo p8600 2.4ghz . Would you think it could run cry on ultra high at a decent solution like 1920*800 since its an full hd 18.4" screen? thnx alot ;)
Nope. Playing at higher resolution means your GPU will work harder and fps will decrease. Your Acer has the same GPU as the Asus G50V, so the best setting is 1280x1024 with high details with medium shadows and shaders. You will have too much lag if you try and play Crysis on a 1920x800 resolution.
I love this game and play it on my Asus G1SN (medium/low 40-55+fps). You gotta love how you can chose to be completely stealthy sneaking up behind enemy front lines, sniping 6 enemies and then making a super speed retreat when you realise they have tossed a few grenades in your general direction. Only to return later on behind them while they are searching the wreckage of your burnt out car thinking you must be near by but you aren't, you are miles away because you ran faster than linford.
Asus by far. Alienware is now made by Dell anyways and there way overpriced for what they give you... It is like buying a Mercedes for the name and the car sucks dick.
Actually, Alienware is owned by Dell. They are both OEM (original equipment manufactures) companies and the don't make any of their laptops. OEM companies (including Apple, Sony, Toshiba, Lenovo/IBM, etc) all purchase from ODM (original design manufactures) such as Asus, Clevo, Compal, and slap their OEM logos on the laptops.
Alienware is more of a boutique brand, and you're paying more for it's name brand than for the hardware.
I actually have both XP32 bit and Vista64 bit dual boot on my G50V. The reason why I have XP32 bit is because I have a few programs I'm using for work that is not compatible with Vista. Gaming is still better on XP :)
which laptop should i buy the Gateway P-7811FX or the Asus G50 X1 they both have Intel Centrino2,Intel core2 dual, Nvidia 9800 gt and 4gb ram ,2.26GHz plz help me
Actually, the G50Vt-x1 has a 9800M GS video card which is slightly less powerful than the 9800M GT in the gateway. Gaming wise, the gate will win hands down, but keep in mind the gateway is a 17", hence less it's heavier and less mobile than the 15" G50. In addition, the G50 has an extra hard drive compartment that can support dual hard drive and RAID-0 configuration, which means overall performance, the G50 would be slightly better.
correction. i have the g50vt-x1 from best buy and it says on the system info that it is a 9800m GT but its probably downclocked thats to a GS... lol p.s. do you know a good driver for the 9800m GT to get the most out of it and good overclocking programs? tnx in advance!
the only reason i want a laptop is that my parents said I cant take my xbox 360 to college. With a laptop I have to bring to college to study with I can play games. Xbox 360 is best gaming console.
um... a bunch? i'm pretty sure only desktops have extra slots. laptops can only change the memory, hdd, and possibly cpu. (correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure i'm not)
There's only a few laptops currently in the market that can support dual SLI graphics. They are also pretty much exclusive to 17" laptops due to the high heat produced by the GPUs. These laptops are: Clevo D900C/D901C (aka Sager NP9262), Asus G70S-A1 (no longer available, maybe try ebay), and the Alienware M17x. Also keep in mind that because of the dual graphics, your battery life will be extremely poor (in the range of 30min to maybe a little over an hour).
actually I've seen others and I wasn't asking if the g50 hade sli but the g71 and if I'll be able to play crysis on the higest grafhics it will be worth it.

That doesn't look like a laptop for me!!! If you look closely, you can't see the 2 megapixel webcam on top of the screen. It should be there is it's the G50V laptop! and it looks anyway like a normal screen... you can see the holders at the bottom of the screen...
this laptop is well worth the price compared to other high-end gaming laptops like alienware, which is EXTREMELY overpriced..stats are the same, but asus g50 costs a lot less
I also forgot to mention that just because the A2 version has a faster rpm, it also has a smaller platter density; hence the performance difference is negligible. Also, all G50 comes default with a non-raid setup while I have mine set in raid-0. Either way, HDD shouldn't make a difference in gaming performance, only loading times. The type of OS and drivers you use will make a difference even in identical systems.
yup, this laptop can be connected to a 1080p HDTV without any issues.
3d mark is primarily GPU dependent and to an extent, CPU dependent; so swapping out the hard drives will have little or no effect on the score. Keep in mind that a higher capacity 5400rpm drive will perform equal or better than a low capacity 7200rpm drive due to the higher platter density on the 5400 hdd.
Even though I'm a fan of newegg, I would suggest buying any Asus laptop from GenTechPC. I have purchased many laptops from them and each time they have provided me with the best customer service. GenTech also adds the extra level of protection in case you need help troubleshooting any computer issues as well. Prices are also cheaper than newegg :)
As for the comparison between the G50V-A2 vs the Qosmnio F55, the F55 will surely be more powerful, but that comes with a cost - size and weight. It's MUCH thicker compared to the Asus, not to mention the lower resolution screen and smaller HDDs. Having a larger chassis will naturally increase the thermal capacity of the laptop, hence a more powerful GPU can be added.
Mhm, that's probably what I wanted to hear. Big and heavy- not good. Especially considering I might have to carry this around with me all the time in university. Besides, the build quality of the ASUS g50v I hear is very good, and besides I like ASUS a lot after my G1s. So, yeah, everyone I ask and everywhere I look just point towards the g50v. Anyway, thank you for your advice and time, and I hope you enjoy having that monster around. Good day. =)
The A2 or the Qosmio F55, that is the question. I like the ASUS over the Qosmio when considering every aspect; especially the build quality. The native resolution on my external monitor is 1680x1050. Running Crysis on that resolution will be horrific (fps wise).
But I agree, games will usually look best when ran at the screen's native res, but in this case, it's simply not realistic to do so.
