  • This is the shit. Too bad that new promo sucks.

  • this is one of their best fucking songs, almost im surprised to see they had a music video lol

  • Hi All!! Check out their !! NEW !! song!!! "Horror detox" !!! Awesome old-school Pestilence stuff!!! Go Dutch fuckers! :)

  • I always find myself watching this over and over again. Pestilence is one of the best bands ever! Their new song wasn't half bad either, nothing compared to this though. I missed a jazzy breakdown for the solo of it, otherwise it was pretty good.

  • this music sounds like moonlight sonata by beethoven BECAUSE its relaxing my mind huahahahaha LOL LOL LOL

  • i love the solo from 2:55 to 3:25

  • pestilence heineken legal hokers and clogs are hollands best treasures.Got a best of these called mind reflections for the car to prserve thre albums.hell when I play it I must look a looney on the roads.Hopefully the reunion tour will be worth for I am hoping to catch my first pet show to make up for being born 20 years late.

  • I think the reason Pestilence is underrated is becaus at the time Death was considered as the top dog of technical death metal, and Pestilence sounded very much like Death, so I presume that people thought of Pestilence as beeing a Death clone, because in many ways they sound just like Chuck Schuldiner's Death. But seeing how shitty most death acts are now a days I would give Pestilence a medal now! This form of jazz infused metal is classic, no doubt about it.

  • :D i'm proud of my country...legion of the damned and pestilence rule!

  • ...and Sinister,Gorefest and I love the Gathering too:)

  • what about God Dethroned?

  • I´m from Portugal,I don`t know every bands from Holland;)

  • Masterpiece.

  • the era of headbangers ball

    mtv now sucks!!!

  • sick riffage!

  • back in a land far far away when Mtv wasnt that bad and played some real music

  • they are from netherlands lol

    pestilence great band with atheist

    hel yeahh!!!!

  • shit! this band sounds like sepultura

  • They are from EE UU

  • nops, they're from the Netherlands

  • Sounds like a fuse between DEATH and Sepultura, are these guys latin?

  • lol this was on MTV, awesome.

  • back when music was good lol

  • well it wasn't good back then but this was and it wasreally that long ago

  • Awesome song!!! Love the Melodic breakdown in the middle of the song with the solo! It kills!!!!!

  • lol its on mtv

cant even possibly imagine that these days

  • i was surprised the other day, i was watching true life and testament was on. i was like =O

  • check out vio-lence's "kill on command", it's nearly the same opening riff. maybe mameli was inspired by that, who knows...

  • Testimony of the Ancients is an awesome technical death metal album.

  • CI is better.

  • Land of beers would be better!

    Anyway, hail Pestilence!!!

  • land of beers, HAHAHA

    that's a great one, brother!

  • umm i like this band pretty good music

  • Pestilence aren't really underrated, they are pretty well known among people who know more than just Cannibal Corpse. Also...the jazz influences weren't until Spheres.

    Testimony' is a great album.

  • If you like Pestilence which I do, because they are awesome Death Metal, then check out Asphyx!

  • hah yayah! asphyx is also badass

  • that MTV logo there is hilarious

  • Headbangers ball ;P

  • If I was to make a death metal record, I would try to get ahold of some 90s-era production equipment. My most favorite metal records came out of the 90s. For some reason, new metal records just dont seem to be the same as 90s metal records..

  • GothslayerEma, it's cool you can hear that new albums sound far too synthetic. Obviously all those faggots within record labels think they do a good job in order to provide a good "product" while they just ruin real sound and metal soul...

  • Yea, I am with you on that one. Its sad. I just finished listening to some of the new bloobath record and I could not get into it. It was just..to clean for me. Heck, I think that the 90s were better for all types. As much as I hate grunge and alt rock, the 90s still had this kind of production in it. I think that music in a whole should take a step back and say "Wait a second, this is to clean." If you want a good new record, get Sodoms The Final Sign of evil. Its new, and the prod. is old.

  • theyre just over polished

  • This isn't over polished if you mean the production? Listen to a lot of new death metal which 90% of is garbage and listen to how clean that production is. This is old school, dirty, sludgy Death Metal! :D

  • a prime example for this fact is Bolt Thrower's "The 4th crusade" which was recorded in 1992 and it STILL owns 95% of ALL records produced afterwards!! PERIOD !!!

  • 2:38 - scary goat

  • Haha

  • this is great stuff.

  • sick fucking shit!so brutal!

  • He does sound like Dave

Killer track! I really wish headbanger's ball still played stuff like this

  • unless this IS david vincent on vocals. he sounds identical to him. (Morbid angel)

  • Patrick Mameli is the name.

  • I wish MTV would show this kind of music-videos today.

Everything was better in the past.

    Greets

  • I have to agree.

  • these guys are pretty good

  • Kreator is not Death/Thrash!!!

  • More thrash than death, but there is some death metal influences on "Pleasure to Kill"... And at the opposite we have Vader that is more death than thrash.

  • Agreed. Pleasure to Kill and Endless Pain are precursors to Death Metal.

  • Here we go with the genres again. Kreator is Teutonic Thrash Metal period. Just like Sodom and Destruction. But they helped pioneer Death Metal just like Sodom helped pioneer Black Metal.

  • I know!

  • I love it! Thanks!

  • 2:55-3:25 is eargasm! I love this solo :P

  • I think some should stick on music, not people and heroes so much. Not talking about musical or leading abilities' appreciation here, thats ok. About personalities we have never met as patterns mostly. Personal perspective, music is what matters most, not if someone did this or that. Speak about Mameli's musicianship, why don't you ? He maybe is a little underground guy but I think he deserves it. Hail to one of the greatest bands ever, once again !!

  • \m/ ò¿Ó \m/

  • a band that fuses metal and jazz. friggin' awesome! hail PESTILENCE!

  • Some of the best death/thrash Iv'e ever heard..up there with Kreator and Morbid Angel \m/

  • fa272, thanks for sending this to me! I rate them up there with Death! *****

  • Kreator is death/thrash?????

  • this voice is goodlike..especially in "out of the body"

  • "Out of the body" is from"Consuming Impulse" album, on that Martin van Drunen is on vocals/bass.Good album. "Land of tears" is from"Testimony of the ancients" lp, with Patrick Mameli vocals/lead guitars, a masterpiece!

  • thx for the info!! greetings from berlin

  • Musicianship years ahead plus feeling plus aggression when needed. Most bands back then tend to be furious but lack of some technique, today there's plenty of technique but lack of musical feeling and ideas. Death, Cynic, Pestilence, Atheist, Morbid angel ... pioneers. I m not talking just about something "kickass", talking about musicianship.

  • You should check out Necrophagist and Obscura's new demo... as well as Trauma (the Polish band) and Vader. Don't limit yourself to American Metal (okay, Pestilence is from the Netherlands :P)

  • I 'm not limiting myself. Just mentioned a few of my default, it could also be Invocator (Swe) or Electrocution (It) or old At The Gates or old Vader stuff or Gory Blister (It) and so many other bands ... it's just that America has a biggest amount of bands that suits my tastes but it doesn't mean something. I 'm an international guy ;) Thnx for the info, i 'll check Obscura ;)

  • if you like this check HAIL OF BULLETS out, the best artist from holland with this singer

by the way pestilence album testimony of the ancients is one of the best albums ever written fucking amazing grtz

  • Get your facts straight, HoB is with Martin van Drunen who did NOT sung on TotA......

  • òppio...oppiè...

  • Feck,just rediscovered this video,takes me back!!

I like the quck flash of a goat turning around at 2:29,its like oi,im an evviilll goat lol.Nice blast from the past

  • Dam it... how old is it? I saw it for the 1st time somewhere between 93 and 95.

  • I know that Testimony of Ancients was released in 1991, but was the video released in the same year?

  • Yes,indeed the videoclip was released in 1991 as for the Testimony of the Ancients album. A masterpiece like "Consuming Impulse". A top notch death-metal band. [Reminds me Death, in the guitar tecnique, a little bit... Great bands both. RIP Chuck].

  • He sounds exactly like david. It makes this sound like morbid angel on speed.

  • Vocalist sounds like David Vincent. That´s a good thing!

  • This band never had the recognition they deserved. This videoclip at Headbanger's ball mtv though was one of the favourites. A classic introduction to death-metal, like Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Deicide, Possessed, Entombed, Dismember, Grave, Unleashed...

Top class dutch-band. Finished too early also...

  • You are right about that. Their minds were not open to more experimental forms of death metal.

  • I can't believe they aren't (most of the time) referred to as one of the greatest death metal bands of the first wave. I only discovered them a few weeks and am astonished at how little praise such a talented and kick ass band gets.

Oh, and the vocalist sounds like a Schuldiner, Tardy and Vincent alike. That is a fucking good thing.

  • this is ATLEAST My 100th time watching this video.gets better and better!!!!

  • if you like this try: Death, Atheist and Cynic

  • TESTIMONY OF THE ANCIENTS,awesome classic album for any true metalhead!

  • I agree. But i can't find any of their albums...

  • me neither they are hard to find

  • if you want some good death metal then ty vader or broken hopes

    there are pretty good

  • always same thing, duddes try this band,

MANGLED CARPENTER. Pure ogre, dark, necro, crhistian, death metal. they sound very dark, and the songs sound very different one each other

  • This is real Old Death Metal, I'Love it!!

  • where did they forget the jazz touch here?

  • They didn't star using the jazz sound until the next album. You can hear some jazz tempos in a few of the songs off this album, but it's not a apparent.

  • This is the first death metal I ever heard ! fuckin' love it =D

  • great now try the band called DEATH

  • Try Dismember, Vader, Entombed(there first 2 albums), Grave, Morbid Angel(there first 4 albums), Obituary, unleashed and Autopsy. Good shit hooker.

  • haha dude, I listen to death metal, this just happens to be the first death metal I ever heard wayy back in the day

  • Yes, check out the first Morbid Angel albums. If you're coming from thrash, you'll fucking adore "Blessed Are The Sick".

  • You know i really like the track "blessed are the sick", but when i saw the video I was like, WTF!! Morbid Angel are the Manowar of death metal. That's not a compliment by the way...

  • Trust me, that's the only video they did in that style and yeah, it tends to make you think "what the hell?", but it was supposed to be exaggerated. I mean come on, it's supposed to be about unholy desires, and the video pictures that perfectly. It's a good video, but it can alienate some people who would only think about Morbid Angel's visual aspect.

Check out the entire album. It's absolutely kickass.

  • I bought it when it came out! Did you know that the reviews at the time complained that the guitars were a little on the quiet side, although it was a progression musically. But i did like the record. I spent ages learning to play Desolate Ways. Don't understand the point of Doomsday Celebration though.

  • Yes, the production really takes the agressivity out of the music. And yes, a good deal of Morbid Angel's instrumentals are pointless. But who cares anyway, the great tracks are present!

  • fucking madnes kill!

    mutherfuckers

  • killer song. this was the first album without vocalist Van Drunen and they sound just as good but Drunen will be missed.

  • New Death Metal just cant measure up

  • ahmen to that man

  • this owns almost all the rest of Death Metal

  • Old School, 5 stars!

  • It's funny that they actually played death metal in mtv :D

  • they did but 20 years ago xD

  • Man, wo sind nur die jahre geblieben?

trotzdem geile musik, mit death metal fing alles bei mir an...zum entsetzen meiner eltern, doch

    einmal metaller-auf ewig metaller!!!

  • So sieht es aus!!!

  • classics!!!!!!!!!!

  • Shit,I almost forgot this band...must have been ages since I listend last time to this.Dug into my cd collection and found the original.Time flies....

  • old school! i fuckin love this shit...

  • Pure talent..one of my favorites metal band...like Death,Nocturnus,Coroner, all have one thing in common...best solo,s quitars

  • oh fuck older times.........great band

  • Does everybody think that jazz is just mellow guitars and piano with some old black lady singing a catchy melody? You can see jazz influences in a lot of things if you know what jazz is...

  • lmao, now ain't that the truth

  • yea i agree with the guy below me.

    i just don't speak german..

  • one of best true death metal bands...

  • I loved any album from these guys, one of a kind any each of them. But with this album, I fall definitively inlove with the thrash, in 1993 when I was just a dumb and young girl. I specially remember this song, (I didn't know it has videoclip)and the classic "Revelations". I still get nut with their music, all the time!

  • One of the very best songs from probably the best Dutch metal-album ever, by anybody. I only wish the production was a bit more bass-heavy. This video, however over-the-top and even cheesy sometimes, got me seriously into metal back then.

  • WTF!!!

    Pestilence on MTV??

  • MTV in Europe, very normal for soooo much better band to be on there.

  • It was on Headbangers ball,a progam about metal music;)

  • lol, you'd be suprised at how much good shit mtv used to play

  • sucks how they dont anymore...one time i saw a death clip and it said mtv on it.sham ethat now they got pimp my ride and shit...

  • lol no shit

  • Haha would be a long time ago I guess :P

Can't remember any good vids on MTV

  • mtv headbanger ball, death obituary carcass sepultura. that was just countdown to the ball. then the shit hit the fan.

  • Recently they've played debut videos from Suffocation and Hate Eternal, but I really wish I could go back in time and re-live the early 90's sometimes...

  • Choy got an evil fucking voice

  • This band is fuckin GREAT! and they are BACK!!! HAIL PESTILENCE!!! \m/

  • jazz? WTF? this is 100% metal

  • Jazz fusion nigga jazz is technical music thats what pestilence does they fuse jazz with metal

  • the gold standard in death metal!

although hearing this song iw ouldnt think their very "jazzy" lol...

  • Listen to the album "Spheres", that's the jazzy/fusion side to them

  • oh yea, thats the one the song "mind reflections" appeared on. i didnt like it too much tho. i prefer the testimony of the ancients era testament.

  • Trust me, not many people did (including me) lol

  • I love playing the 16th note palm-muted riff...

  • both are great bands there is no need to compare em... and they are different to cynic both of which are great!

  • I totally agree. I'd like to see them together.

  • I think that the Testimony of the ancients was, as an technical death metal album, a bit of a disappointment and the numerous keyboard interludes killed the flow. But still a great masterpiece and durable listening.

Hope their comming back permanently !

  • happy days, saw these in sheffield with cancer...absolutely tore it up...

  • classic !!

  • Ah Pestilence, truely one of the great, classic death metal bands, it's a shame there isn't more around like them.

  • I agree man... great breaks, good melodies, powerful middle parts and then fast and clear technically on the highest level in death metal...

  • NO.1

  • Testimony of the Ancients was an awesome album. I think this song and "Presence of the Dead", "Stigmatized" are the best songs on the album.

  • They are all the icons of Death Metal and best bands like Death, Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse, what you guys cant share???Fuck you all, shut the fuck up and listen your music!

  • Tony Choy was awesome on the album, too bad he wasn't in the video.

  • Pestilence fucking rules , Fukc the world

    YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • This is a great track and Patrick Mameli's vocals are awesome but Martin van Drunen was the better vocalist imo. I much prefered the earlier Pestilence albums too, my fave being Consuming Impulse. Out Of The Body is an amazing track.

  • Pestilence were good but the kings of death metal were Death. RIP Chuck, you wrote some classic songs.

  • I think Pestilence blows Death away. Everything after Human was laborious. Even Spheres tops those later Death albums, IMO. But, there's no accounting for taste.

  • im not so sure about the "everything after human" comment, i would say that everything before spiritual healing wasnt the best death couldve done, imo (at this moment at least). pestilences first three albums were much better than deaths first two, though. i would agree that spheres tops maybe sound of perseverence and definitely symbolic (also imo), but i think death were more evolved than pestilence (except maybe for spheres) and they were quite a lot more influential.

  • well you cant say pestilence is better because death and morbid angel practically invented death metal boi

  • dont forget possessed

  • you cant say ANYTHING because you like ICP, therefore your musical opinion is invalid.

  • yes you can. you can say whatever you want. if someone thinks pestilence is better than death or MA, they can say it.

  • One of the members (I don't remember who) also played in a band called Sarcosanct, and release two thrash metal lps. I'll have to upload some of that soon

  • fantastic solo......

  • At last,I get to see this clip some 17 years after it's release!Pestilence were Netherlands' finest;an essential metal band, even if the swansong release "Spheres" was completely misunderstood in it's time.Fans should check out Patrick Mameli's new group called C-187 (also includes fellow "Testimony" cohort Tony Choy & legendary Cynic drummer Sean Reinert). To MRMC'SCREAMO-You should try find '80's Texan band Watchtower's "Control & Resistance" album,a true masterpiece that inspired all these acts

  • Asphyx are awesome, although completely different death metal to the progressive stuff mentioned, very brutal stuff! Sinister are pretty good, as are Thanatos if anyone is interested in other Dutch Death Metal bands.

  • Thanatos is one of my favorites.

  • Oh and Watchtower...Is badass
