What a guy. Takes a song, puts it in 7/4 and makes it his own....Like Willie Dixon's and Long John Baldry's version, but this is streets ahead. Not sure about the hoodie, but Pan's People make it watchable.
Georgie fame must be climbing up nearer the top of 'the longest ever music careers' list. He was playing pro in the early sixties and shows no sign of stopping...
Not sure what on earth he's doing here, though. Those Top Of The Pops producers had some bloody stupid ideas!
This looks like a N. African (Moroccan?) kaftan - the hood is needed because you've got to cover up for sand storms and protection from the heat and cold dessert nights. Also, he's obviously a big fan of Mose Allison. (Parchman Farm recorded later) This (originally blues) tune is about superstitions of 7th son having supernatural powers - ergo the kaftan; perhaps a false allusion to things mysterious and paranormal. Either way this cat was BAD! I don't hold him responsible for the go-go girls.
It's probably just a silly gimmick. In 1969, there was a novelty hit called "Sweet Lady In the Moon" which was sung -- or rather, mimed -- by two guys wearing old-fashioned baseball uniforms. The song had nothing to do with baseball.
And remember Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, with their mock-Egyptian getups? Like the song says, ya gotta have a gimmick.
@perciful1 Yes, I’ve seen the clip of Pan’s People dancing to “Green River.” Watched it MANY times! Sexy stuff, even if a couple of the girls occasionally missed a move or two.
Have you seen any of the YouTube vids of the Gazzarri Dancers on “Hollywood a Go Go?” They were some fine-looking babes too.
Before my time, but WOW! Those women are PERECT. The whole thing is just SO damned cool. And it's a real recording... live.. with a cord attached to the mic. Talent.
to SuperXavier30 ~ He still gigs occasionally, I saw him play last year. He was very chatty between songs, recounting stories of the sixties, very entertaining. He was wearing shoes ☺ ;-j
