One thing I did not add to those who thought PFM were wannabes. King Crimson's own Pete Sinfield wrote many of their lyrics. If HE cared enough to write for them -- what kind of wannabes are we talking about? Members of PFM have been musicians that are top tier. They can hold their own against ANY band from England & America. They carry on a tradition the original Crimson started. Judging from concert attendance, years performing & recording -- many other people think so too.
@lastrada52 Wow this is awesome never heard of this band before thanks. I don't see why Crimson is put on such a pedistal with so many people. I don't see how anyone can call this band Wannabe's even after hearing this one song. Technically people could call King Crimson Moody Blues wannabe's. Greg Lake even sort of sounds like he is trying to emulate Justin Hayward's voice on their first album. Do you like Jan Dukes De Grey??? Another awesome band!
@DavidKinner Check PFM's English songs: "Celebration," "River of Life," & "The World Became the World." Get past the accents - they are right on the mark. Manticore was their label -- which was Emerson, Lake & Palmer's & some lyrics were Pete Sinfield's. A better endorsement you can't get. Check Jade Warrior, Banco (another Italian), Camel, Flash, Vangelis (Albedo 0.39 w/ Come On & Rain & Tears --the Female sign is a track w/ Irene Papas vocals. Not to be believed) & Aphrodite's Child - 999.
For those of you saying PFM were "wannabes" they performed before 250,000 people in NYC's Central Park in 1975 -- I was there. The crowd loved them. Their album "Cook" was the live show release. They are still performing to this day & are highly regarded by prog rock fans throughout Europe. In America you're familiar with all those other prog rock bands. In Europe, PFM would likely come ahead of Genesis, Gentle Giant and possibly Rush. They are no "wannabes." ELP didn't think they were.
@lastrada52 70,000 people in my country and 10,000 listen outside the Teatro Miguel Angel Asturias, how some stupid people can call this awesome prog rock band WANNABES??? they have no musical taste and they can go listen to Justin Gaybeaber, Jonas Sisters and all the rap-crap music.
@sarasota75 Wow. 70,000 people in the arena & 10,000 outside -- for a band no one's ever heard of? How can that be? There are many artists that are not mainstream that command big audiences. In Europe Barclay James Harvest, Amon Duul & that marvelous Greek Demis Roussous. Major artists. Big sellers. Huge audiences. Terrific performers and musicians throughout the world. In the USA? Totally ignored. A real shame.
Haven't heard this incredible track since my vinyl copy was "lost" 20 odd years ago..err..the crackles seem to be in the same places.YOU'VE GOT MINE HAVEN'T YOU ??
Mindless dribble in a feeble attempt at progresive music. Probably couldn't play an A note on a staff. This band always gave me a headache like a 20 inning baseball game. Might go well with Curling or painting the ceiling though.
I think mindless dribble sums it up nicely. I build guitars and have been playing music my whole life. These guys grew up in the shadow of ELP, King Crimson, Genesis, Gentle Giant, and Yes. They are sad wanabees!
@glennstrat MmM, maybe i should let you know that Pete Sinfield wrote the lyrics of this song (as for the whole album), and Genesis themselves admitted to take a lot of inspiration from them...the other bands you quoted are obviously masters of progressive music, but PFM has nothing to envy. "Wannabe" is the worst term you could use to describe them since their music is unique in the world. Italian progressive gave something noone else could. Neither England.
It's Definitely my pleasure... everyone's entitled to think what they like about what they want, no probs, but just because it's not doing it for you-you don't dig it- you can't just slam it for the sake of it...especially when it's not constructive critisism. Keep on Rockin' !!
...all things considered, especially musicianship and 2,000 years of sophisticated Italian culture, the Romans, Da Vinci, Vivaldi, Leonardo, Opera, etc, after a THOROUGH listening, maybe over years, having an intimate knowledge of every part of this track, sensitive to its exceptionally exacting timing and execution, the juxtaposition of highs, lows, the intensity and the gentle meanderings, this,in my opinion is the greatest progressive rock tract of all time..... not perfect, but nothing is.
I knew and had heard this band back in the early 70's ! Completely forgot about these Italian guys ! LOL Thye are very talented and were ahead of their time for sure......
Thank you for typing all the lyrics. Brilliant piece of music.
